The essential philosophical difference between Progressives and Conservatives is...

Conservatives: Believe that Mankind is inherently evil, tainted by Original Sin, and only strict, authoritarian religion and subservience to one's betters can keep society going. Conservatives are inherent pessimists who reject notions of long-term human progress.

Examples: Plato, Augustine, Leo Strauss

Progressives: Believe that mankind is inherently good and that evil acts are caused by ignorance and that an open, free, and egalitarian society will help prevent the ignorance that causes evil actions. Progressives are inherent optimists who have at least an implicit faith in progress.

Examples: Socrates, The Buddha, Kant, Dewey, Popper

I believe people are evil by nature. If people were good by nature than why must we be taught how to be good?
I am an inherent optimist who believes that we can overcome our natural evil desires and be good people in spite of our nature. It is not pessimistic to realize that we can't legislate evil away. There will always be evil in the world.

It's a frequent, and specious, argument they raise.  The beliefs of each really center around the role of the State, not the nature of the individual or religious duality.  Opinions of the nature of Man are just as mixed on one side of the political philosophy fence as they are on the other.

I think the basic difference is that conservatives look to themselves first when something is needed.  Secondly, they'll look to friends, family, and their church, if they must.  Lastly, they'll resort to government help if they have no other option and are desperate.  Meanwhile, when they can, they give to those that need, either money or labor.

Liberals, on the other hand, when in need, will immediately go to Uncle Sam.  In fact, they'll go when they don't really need anything, but feel that they have less than others or merely deserve more than they have.  They have no problem receiving help from friends or family, either, just so long as gratitude or repayment aren't part of the deal.  When they see others with less than themselves, they will demand that Uncle Sam take money "from the rich," (anyone with more than themselves...or anyone besides themselves) and use it to first to support the government, second to support anyone they feel is deserving (but none of those fundie or right-wing types), thirdly any other "good" cause, and way in last place maybe throw a few bucks at some defense of the country...if we have extra...and there seems to be any real cause (like if some of those fundie or right-wing types may be trying to enter the country or vote or something.)

I can boil down the difference in philosophy in one word each.

Conservative: "Reality."

Liberal: "Fantasy."

Please explain why then when lawlessness reigns communities become unlivable due to the evil that humans will inflict on each other.

If you think you are right then I dare you to walk down certain city streets at night.

Progressives believe that the collective - state, race or humanity as a whole - is superior to the individual. This is most evidently seen when the progressives talk about so-called 'positive' rights, which obligate people to perform service for others (that was called slavery at one time). With this belief that the group is more important than the individual is comes a mentality that does not see individuals as living, breathing people, but components of a super-organism that can be sacrificed when it is in the interest of the group.

The useful idiots (ESPECIALLY the DUmmies) see only a utopia where unicorns shit rainbows.

Conservatives believe that individuals have the right to live their own lives and be what they want to be without being servile to others.

Without the government extorting time and treasure from conservatives, progressives would die.

Next.
