Why is the South more conservative?
Why is it so tough to make in roads into the southeast and win elections? Why is the south such a tough nut to crack for progressive ideas?

1. Because an overwhelming majority...
of conservatives in the south, and around the rest of the country for that matter, are racist as hell...if black folk were conservative and voted Republican, most of them would be liberal...and the one's who aren't racist have an average IQ of below 80 more than likely.

2. The South is traditionally very rural, an agrarian society with little or minimal education. Rare exposure to new ideas and if the ideas conflicted with the Protestant interpretations of the Bible, they were rejected out of hand. Plus, slavery as an institution.

African Americans are the least educated segment of American society with the lowest graduation rates. Also, they have some of the highest poverty rates. They vote overwhelmingly Democrat. Mind explaining how that works with your theory there?

I live in S.C. and know for a fact that the Tories that weren't killed fled north after the revolution. As a matter of fact, a large group left this area for Canada which opened up land of which my ancestors took control.

Because the people who originally populated the South were those looking to get the hell away from useless fools who wanted to tell them what to do all of their lives. And any attempt to take away their liberty and property usually ends very badly for those who are the "takers".
A migration map of the populations that went to New England and those that went South will tell you who you're dealing with. I recommend the migration maps from 'Seeds of Albion' for further information.
