I am LIVID!!!
My tea-bagging neighbor is outside sitting on her back porch shooting a BB Gun at the squirrels and birds!!!

I have two dogs, one that is blind and elderly that goes outside to use the bathroom. If one of those BB's were to hit my dog, all hell would be breaking loose over here!

I yelled over the fence for her to stop, and she flipped me off!

Things haven't been pleasant since she put a "repeal the bill" and "Rick Perry for Governor" in her yard. I haven't been shitty, but I stopped the pleasantries, waving... saying hello etc. Rick Perry? That was a dealbreaker.

What kind of person sits on her back porch with a BB GUN shooting birds??? ARRRG!

If the damn squirrels are a nuisance, so what? Only a PETA member, or an aspiring one would post so much distress about this crap.

She flipped you off? I'd kinda like to meet her.  :cheersmate:

If a SIGN turns you off to someone, you're a shallow, stupid bitch. Heck, my mother is extremely liberal. Has a Tammy Baldwin sign in her yard.  :censored: Doesn't mean I'm going to cut ties, or pleasantries with her. DUmmie.

1. What do the cops say about her?
Tell them you're afraid for kids and your dogs.

Likely the old bag has a snootful.

Wow...

4. Is it legal to have a BB gun?
This is why I haven't called the police, I figured they would just laugh at me!

Yeah, I am gonna call right NOW!

I hope they laugh in your face.

152. I knew someone injured by a BB

A young boy where I grew up was accidentally hit when a BB ricocheted and entered his ear. He sustained brain damage and requires around the clock care to this day.

This makes it all sound like a bouncy.

72. Update:

Cops came out.

They told her to stop. She agreed and has put the BB gun away for now. She even apologized from across the yard.

I am still not sure what the law is, but atleast she has stopped.

Thanks for all the advice DU'ers.

74. If the cops don't help... call...
Call Texas Parks and Wildlife. Even if the cops do come, they'll just tell her not to do that.

Call the Poaching Hotline at 1-800-792-4263

What she is doing is illegal.

"Protected Birds: Hawks, owls, eagles, and all other nongame birds and songbirds (except for the few unprotected birds listed below) are protected by various state and federal laws and may not be killed, taken from the nest, picked up, or possessed for any reason, and their feathers may not be possessed or sold. Arts and crafts may not include these protected species under any circumstances."

I caught a possum in the tub of cat food I keep on the back porch

Took him out with the first thing I got my hands on.

A Craftsman 15 inch adjustable wrench.  (I use it to change out the propane tanks for the kitchen stove.  AND kill possums.)

You'll shoot your eye out, DUmmies!

Oh, and since when are tree rats "protected"?  The only thing that keeps me from moving up to a .22 are the houses 1/4 mile behind me.  Aside from that, a .187 CO2 pellet gun works wonders at keeping the varmint population down in the back yard.

To each his own...the cost of additional rounds is tiny, compared to the price of underestimating how dead your target is, which can range from coming back empty-handed from the hunt or with a lower score on the range, to your life or your comrades' lives in battle.

Tank main gun rounds are a bit different, they tend to have fairly immediate and catastrophic effects on most things you'd be shooting them at, if you hit at all, but usually the loader has the second one going up the pipe before you even register the fall of the first.  But even with them, you don't lay off the engagement until the threat is dead.

If it'd been me this bitch had called the police to badger over a damned bb gun, you'd better believe I'd be siccing as many city agencies as I could on her. For starters, I'd call the local animal control and tell them she's mistreating her dog. Also call health and hygiene and complain about uncleaned-up dog crap in the back yard. Bring some sunshine into her life.

Plenty of other ways to use city/county agencies to screw someone over. If she has a pool, even a kiddie pool, call and complain about mosquitoes and say you're worried about West Nile. There might even be an ordinance about how close it can be to a fence. Look her property over for department of buildings/transportation violations, eg, cracks in the sidewalk. Cost her some money to re-do concrete.

Make all calls from pay phones and stay anonymous.

There are also far worse things than these you can do, involving city agencies, but I won't go into them here.

Never take shit from neighbors when you're doing nothing but minding your own business. Get even, and then get ahead.

I've always called it east since I lived in Ft. Worth. Mainly because Austin resembles the upper east coast politically! The place is stacked floor to ceiling with liberals! A rarity in TX.

I came millimeters away from losing an eye to a BB. I saw it coming, and managed to turn my head enough that it caught the skin on the outside corner of my eye, then it bounced off my ear. I still have a faint scar where that BB grabbed me. I was also about 12 at the time.

I will never forget seeing that BB coming at me. my eye focused on it and I watched it get bigger and bigger very very quickly.

Back in my 20s I had a similar experience with a lead ball from .36 Navy replica after I fired it at a maple log (Firewood).  Fortunately I wasn't lined up perfectly with it and it missed my head by a foot or two on the rebound, saw it inbound then zipping past with no time at all to do anything but realize what it was and what had happened.  Could've ended pretty badly, but out of pure luck, it didn't.  I never did that again.

My step brother once decided he'd shoot a tire with a .22! It came right back and hit him in the thigh! Took forever for me to convince him to let me take a look as he had both hands coverin' it afraid to look! He lucked out, it just left a bruise the size of a softball!

Wow. It's never crossed my mind to try that, but I figured a .22 has enough WHAP! to tear through the rubber. I thought because of the angle of the metal, it might ricochet in a different direction too. Glad I read your comment, cause obviously...I'm wrong. (It does sound like something my cousin would do though.) He once decided it'd be a good idea to hold a homeade silencer on his rifle when he couldn't screw it on.

It wasn't...

And what was that guy shooting at, Sparky? Couldn't quite see. Sounded like the round tinked a can or something.

From what I understand, if the tire is inflated, the .22 will go thru it without adverse effects.

However if there is any give, as in an un-inflated tire, the rubber has enough pliability to bounce the bullet! Ya really gotta be one lucky sumbitch to shoot at an the angle so it comes right back at ya!

BTW, I laughed my ass off!!!!!!!!!!! He had "borrowed" the gun outa Dad's cabinet in the first place! He would have had to cop to doin' somethin' Dad woulda kicked his ass for after he healed!

I believe it was a steel plate.

I bet there are organizations that work in Africa and other third world countries that would love some glass eyes.  I know our church collects glasses and our old church collected medicine bottles.  They need everything it seems like.

I will look into that.  His eye was shot out, not in, in the 40's, and they aren't like the ones they use these days, according to my other Uncle, the Opthomologist.  He said they were just good for keepsakes.

I once watched them make one on a tv show.  It was so cool how they took a mold of the eye socket and then popped it out!  I don't think jewelry would be out of line for them then.

Well, I have a shoebox filled with em.  They resized as he got bigger, and I guess, as technology improved.  I doubt the smaller, original ones are of any value to anyone, but maybe the newer ones.  He died in 87, so maybe not.  But, before I make jewelry of em, or throw em in someone's drink, I will scope out any philanthropic oppty.  Of course, I really kind of dig the idea of putting them in ice cubes.  Just the kind of gal I am.   :hyper:
