Spring Creek BBQ. They're a small chain around Texas. Stopped by last night because we were down Dallas way and en route back to Texomaland and were kind of hungry. Tired of most of the chain restaurants around Sherman/ Denison, I figured we'd stop between Plano & McKinney to grab a bite to eat. Most of the places were jam packed full and I wanted something a little different than a burger or standard chain food fare. Saw the Spring Creek BBQ and it interested me. Hit the next exit, flipped around and went in. Nice, clean place. The food was above average (at least for what we have in the hometown area) The service was good (for a buffet). The manager even insured someone toted my tray to our selected table. All in all, I was quite pleased. Short of doing it myself, this was, by far, the best BBQ from a restaurant I've had in a long while.

I love their rolls. We loved Rudy's when we lived in Dallas. Yum!

I get coupons from em in my valpak every so often, but never went. I was hesitant to try "chain" bbq. I will give it a go soon. Thanks!

Chain restaurants being what they are, I can understand. I went to the one in McKinney. I saw another when I was in Garland this weekend. I'm sure that they vary by location. Although, I've also been pretty impressed by Texas Roadhouse's cuisine. (Another "chain restaurant). I can BBQ as good, if not better, but as for NOT having to do the work, it was pretty good.

If I am getting BBQ in Garland, I go to Babes and get their Ribs. The Garland Babes is the only one that sells ribs.
I am becoming more and more picky about going out to eat, as my boyfriend's and my cooking skills have increased, at the same pace of the price to go out to eat.

We used to eat at Babes all the time when I was growing up in Mesquite. Muy delicioso.
But I'm loving Metzlers.

The best part is they have a hell of a good beer selection. Speaking of which, I should go pick some up.

I don't recall Babe's BBQ in Garland. We always ate at Underwoods and Dickies (off of 75 in Dallas).

It is actually Babe's Chicken Dinner House, off of Garland and Beltline. The one in Garland is the only one that sells ribs.

I don't think they existed when I was living there. I moved from there in early 1974.
Come to find out:
On April 22, 1993, Paul and Mary Beth Vinyard opened the first Babe's in Roanoke, Texas, located North East of Ft. Worth and West of Grapevine. It has only 155 seats and is located in a warehouse building built in 1908. "Babe" is Mary Beth's nick name; she developed the recipes so we named the restaurant Babe's.
The Babe's in Garland was opened in May of 1994. Over the years we have developed a broader menu for this Babe's, including many of the items we now serve in the other Babe's locations.
Newbies.........

The Babe's in Sanger is pretty good.
I've eaten at the Spring Creek over in The Colony. It was okay.

I drive though Sanger four days a week. I may have to stop there.
-
Sanger is doable for me, as well. Might have to venture down there on a Saturday.....
-
Great, now I'm gonna have to do a rack of ribs on Sunday instead of crab cakes.
I hate you all, figuratively speaking, of course.
-
You may want to check, I think only the Babes in Garland sells ribs. But I could be mistaken.

I don't think they sell ribs at the one in Sanger. I was just saying I thought their chicken, sides and tea were good.

Why? You can BBQ lobsters while you BBQ ribs.

You and me both. :lmao:
That said, and given the choice, I'll take his bbq'd steak tips over a silly ol' bug any day of the week. The boy has mad steak grillin' skilz.
However, if he ever decides to chef up his lobster casserole dish for me, I may have a change of heart. We'll see.

I'll remember that as I "grill" my ribs today. 230 degrees, 5-6 hours, baste in apple juice every hour.
Oh, FWIW, I did put the rub on last night, so it should have penetrated nice and deep into the meat. Nice smoke ring when I pull it off.
And yeah, it's store bought wet sauce I'm going to put on at the end, but Stubbs Spicy is just SOOOOOOOO good.
Add the crab cake appetizers, it's gonna be a good day.

I dunno...probably the same reason Mexican food in Texas tastes like it came from someone's ass. Or that you wouldn't know fish or seafood if it bit you.
Texas cuisine--that's not a cuisine, that's a PENANCE!
But that's okay, go ahead and think that your cuisine actually MEANS something.
Oh, and the basting with apple juice? That's a little trick I learned when I found the rub/sauce recipe. Something about being from a 7-time world champion...does the name Paul Kirk ring a bell?
