I thought I would show those of you who are interested a picture of my eye almost three weeks post canthoplasty on my right eye. I also thought I would show you the progress of our house being painted. They should be finished by tomorrow *maybe*.
I took these this morning to show my Mom. I took them with my phone so the quality sucks.
It was my right eye and it appears on the right in the picture because I am looking in the mirror. It looks like my eye use to look like, I am really happy. I hope it stays where it is, it can still "retract" from scar tissue. I pray that it does not.
I'm still swollen in the upper lid (outer corner). My other eye looks kind of weird. It has been really dry lately so maybe I need to put some drops in it or something. The outer 1/4th of the lash line is still numb and has a little "flap" of odd skin. The "flap" has gone down over the past week so maybe it will just go away.
Here are pictures of our house. The color is called "Bamboo Shade" and has more green in it that it appears in the pictures. The trim will be white like it was before. The garage doors were never painted so I'm sure they will look a ton better just being painted. We bought new larger shutters and we are having them painted black. I bought new lighting, mailbox, doorbell and house numbers (none of which have come yet) all in black so I'm sure it will tie in nicely.
The circle thing in the middle of the entry walkway used to have this ugly statue on it.
Here is was before:
Here it is after: The plant in the middle is an Iris. When I planted the pansies and the sweet alyssum they looked so scraggly and bad that I almost pulled them out and threw them away.

After:
Before: Notice the fence is white in this picture and in the next picture it is painted the color of the house. It was a mistake but we like it so we are leaving it. They were supposed to paint it white. Also notice the green awnings. Those are being recovered in black. There are also two more on the kitchen windows on the back of the house.
After:

Both windows get shutters here. Also there are two windows in the back that will get shutters.

Beauty!
I love what you did in the circle, and the azaleas look so great next to that pretty house!
-
Glad your eye is better. You are stunningly beautiful, BEG, and you have a house that matches.

That azaleas go all around to the corner of the fence on the side yard, then there are gardenia bushes with iris and a few ferns on the side fence going around the back yard. Once we get the whole yard totally cleaned up it will look really nice. We bought some landscape lighting on clearance because they were tan (metal), my husband spray painted them a hammered grey/black finish. He replaced all the damaged ones in the front and then decided to replace them all. There were 10 lights in the front of the house and they cost us $6 apiece, to by replacement lights for the lights would have cost over $5 apiece. Metal landscape spot lights are normally a lot more than that. You can see one in the "circle" picture. We will just use the ones that still work from the front to replace once in the backyard that are screwed up. We have been working in the front yard for the past few weekends. When they power washed the house before they started painting they screwed up the beds.

Gorgeous! The house ain't bad either! :-)
I'll come back later to ooh and ahh over the house when I have time. Looks good!!

Well ya know what? There is something better in CA than Texas....gardening! Azaleas and Gardenias never look like that! And ferns, well, you know....forget it! I will just live vicariously through your garden.
-
You could almost make that first picture your avatar.

True, I tried to grow some azaleas and they wouldn't even flower let alone looked really sickly a few years ago in Texas. The only place I could ever grow ferns or gardenias was on my porch in a pot.

ACK are you serious or are you just being nice? I'm not "there" yet in my mind.
-
You, like my wife, look 10 years younger than you are. I'll bet, like my wife, if you don't wear makeup you get carded at bars.
Ya, the house is nice too.

I thought it was a good picture, except for the camera blocking part of it.

Nice flip flops
Your eye looks better than mine does... mine's still red and swollen and sore. Pretty house, too.

It looks much better than it feels. It burns and waters all day. I'm surprised it wasn't red when I took the picture. My other eye has been bothering me too. I thought it was my sinuses because my right side was running constantly for days. That has dried up but the eye is still burning. It isn't watering like it was when my nose was a faucet though. I am just afraid my uveitis will come back so I am constantly touching my upper lid (actually pushing on the eyeball through the lid) to see if it is sore. That is the first thing I notice when it's back. It's also still really blurry.
Hope your eye clears up soon Chris.

Thanks! :-*

Nice job on the house, BEG. I'm jealous of the fact that you have year-round nurseries or can grow stuff without having to worry about getting it in the ground before it freezes.
Speaking of which, are you going up to Oxnard for the Strawberry Festival?
-
I like what you're doing with the house....what color trim are you gonna do??
-
I like what you're doing with the house....what color trim are you gonna do??
The trim will be white again but the shutters, gates and the metal fence (on the right side of the house where the garbage cans go) will be black.
We have a potting shed in the back yard. Below is a picture of it before. I know it isn't a very good picture but there is a stucco fence about 18" tall (I'm not very good with guessing measurements) with metal fence on top of it and a gate. This is where they kept their tortoises (which we are giving back to them after they wake up from their hibernation). The metal fence and gate part will also be black. The windows and the door will be black, the body of the shed will be the color of the house and the trim will be a darker color that was on the same color "strip" to make it look a little different from the house. The trim color on the shed has more green in it than the body. We are turning the potting shed into an "Art Shed" for the girls. It has electricity and a sink in it so it will work out well for that.
Also notice the bottom of the house is white, that is now the same color as the house and the awnings that are green in the picture are being recovered in black. Oh and the tree on the right, we had that removed. It was right next to the house and we had hundreds of birds that chirped really loud every morning at alike 5 am.

No, I must be stupid....I don't know what the Strawberry Festival is.

Up in Oxnard in mid-May. There's also one in Garden Grove on Memorial Day weekend in downtown GG (between Main and Euclid, across from GG High School.)

We haven't done anything in the backyard yet.

Our backyard in Texas was way better.

BEG...you are absolutely gorgeous. We are always our own worst critics...but Darlin', you are beautiful.
So's your house!! :-)
-
I've been so busy lately I've not been able to be on much. What was wrong with your eye? Whatever it was it looks great now. You are a very beautiful woman!
Love the house, and I especially love the backyard pool area.

I had scar tissue on the inside lower lid (above the muscle) and it was causing my lower lid to droop (retract). It is the same eye (right) that I have had all the trouble with uveitis and steroid shots in the eye ball itself. The surgeon had to cut the outside corner of my eye about 1/2 inch (about level with the area at the lash line), release the scar tissue then perform a canthoplasty. I posted about it in the health forum (or they crying forum, I can't remember) and posted a picture too that showed how it is done.
Which backyard do you like? The one I posted several pictures of was our backyard in Texas. Sniffle, I miss Texas. Looking at the pictures THAT is my house. The California house feels like it belongs to someone else.
-
Ouch, that all sounds painful. I've had the lasiks surgery to correct my vision and get rid of contacts, and it didn't hurt but just was so creepy having someone work on my eyes while I was awake and knowing it. What you had sounds so much worse! I'm so glad it has healed up for you. I really can't see any sign of it in the picture you posted. Come to think of it, I do remember now reading some of your previous posts about going to have this done. You were having back troubles at the time too weren't you? I'll have to go back and re-read that as my mind is just running on the fumes right now, I'm so mentally out of gas.
I do like the Texas backyard more, especially love the wood bridge and pond area. That looks so peaceful. But I kind of like the shape of the California pool better. It's going to look really neat I'm sure and as good or better when you finish putting your special touches on it.
-
You, the house, both yards are all beautiful! I also like the fence being the same color as the house.
Hope your eyes both get better soon.
Where I live we get really excited about a few lilac bushes and some tulips, if they survive!

When I was a kid, there was a lilac bush outside my bedroom window. I used to love waking up to the scent of their flowers in the early mornings.

Thanks! My favorite flowers are tulips and poppies. There is a house the next street over and they have a yard full of poppies. It is beautiful.

I really like poppies too. I planted a bunch of Icelandic poppies last year, I liked them and they were perennials. Reds, yellows, oranges and white. They were just beautiful.
The momma deer loved them...... :bawl:

Now I'm going to show you the new lights, mailbox, doorbell and house numbers. If you aren't interested in this kind of thing skip this post. :p
Here is the style font of the house numbers, it is called "Ribbon". You can order just about any font and any size from the place I got them. They weren't cheap but they will make a huge statement from the street. They are 6" tall.
They will be off-set with spacers from the wall like the following numbers:
The house numbers will go to the left of the tree under the porch. There is a pot light in the ceiling of the porch right in the center of the area so it will light up the numbers and night.
This is the mailbox, it was cheap (for a mailbox).
Doorbell only we got it in black:
The lights I'm not so sure about. It says the glass is "linen seedy" glass and in the pictures just looks white but if you zoom in on it it has a cool pattern on it. Since the doors are craftsman style and the inside is basically kind of craftsman (well parts of it is) I wanted something leaning that way with out being obvious because the house itself isn't really craftsman, so I wanted something that hinted craftsman. This light is 16" tall and 9 1/2" wide. I hope it is big enough for the space it goes. The previous light was white and ugly. It was the typical light but also had frilly things on it. We also ordered the same one in a smaller version for the backyard (three of them). I will return them if we get them and they are ugly.
The light is going between the two garage doors right where the tree is in the picture below. It looks so bare with out the shutters. The original shutters were 14" wide, the new ones are 16" wide. I wanted 18" wide shutters and I thought that was what my husband ordered but apparently he didn't. The style of the old shutters was raised panel and the new shutters we got are louvered. The raised panel shutters made me think more colonial style house and to me didn't fit the house (and they were falling apart).
**I know that the mailbox, doorbell and house numbers are all different fonts. They will be away from each other and no one but me will notice (and yes it will drive me nuts). My husband wanted the "Ribbon" font for the address numbers and I really like the "0" in that font so I agreed (our house number is 700). I like the doorbell and it was cheap ($7.95), it is made out of black powder coat iron and if I don't like it I can get another one because it was so cheap. Others we were looking at were $45 and up.
-
There is a pot light in the ceiling of the porch
For growing pot? :-)
-
For growing pot? :-)
Aha...very funny. One of these, which are called...POT lights or recessed pot lights (http://i.ehow.com/images/a05/57/uo/install-ceiling-pot-lights-800X800.jpg)
-
Well, it's California, so I had to ask... :uhsure:
-
Where the hell is Shade? We have a hot tub, drapes and bare floors, prime subject matter. :lmao:
-
We call them "can" or "recessed" lights here.
Pot lights are those grow lights that people have in their basement or barns for growing specific green weed..... :uhsure:

Not exactly the "something else" I was hoping to see.
:naughty:
Nice house though.
-
The house is finally finished being painted (they finished Tuesday). Here are a few pictures, my daughter resized the pictures so they are smaller than if I would have done it.
I wanted larger shutters, my husband ordered 16" wide, I wanted 18". They had 14" wide shutters on there before.
We are having the awnings remade that go on the side/back windows. They should be done in about a week. They will be black.
Here is the new doorbell and mailbox. The new house numbers haven't gotten here yet. The mailbox used to be by the other door (the one that goes to the study). People didn't know which door was the front door even though the front door has glass in it and the other one doesn't (and it had a doorbell). So we decided to put the mailbox by the front door even though it makes more sense to have the mailbox by the study door because that is where I put the mail when it comes.
I got new porch furniture about a month and a half ago. It was fairly inexpensive as far as outdoor furniture goes. I had two ceramic birds sitting on the table. I forgot to put them back on it after we moved the furniture back in place.

Beauty! And I love the door. Your house is beautiful, even if it is in CA. C'mon, you know as well as I that houses with that kind of character cannot be found in Dallas, unless you have a bazillion dollars.
Ya done good. :cheersmate:

So where are the pictures of you in the shower? Er... I mean, of your shower?

Oh you can find a ton of houses that have that kind of character and more in Dallas for cheaper than what we paid for this house. There are some beautiful old neighborhoods in Dallas.
Thanks for the nice comments Deb!! :-*

See those three little square windows? That is where my shower is. Fly to California, get a ladder, climb on the roof and take a peek.

Makes my house look like a crack shack.

I meant a bazillion Texas Dollars. :-)

BEG, it turned out beautifully! I can't get over how perfect
the lawn looks. Your backyard grass looks just like carpet.

BEG...love, love, LOVE the house and colors!! Your front door is just beautiful! I'd be curled up in one of those chairs on the porch with a book as often as I could!
-
Gorgeous! BEG I love what you've done to this house! It really looks like it could be in a magazine. No kidding.
What do the neighbors say? I hope they like what you've done to improve their property values!
-
I love the color (of your eyes) the house looks nice also. :evillaugh:
-
I wouldn't be mentioning where your bathroom was too much you may get uninvited visitors to take a peek :-)
-
Really nice place BEG, the homies will love your furinture in the "hood". :-)
-
The results are beautiful! That has to put a smile on your face, when you come home to that...and the perfect manicured lawn...I am jealous! And I never thought I'd say that about someone living in the loony left state of CA..lol
-
Wow. Your place is so beautiful. I love looking at well-kept and landscraped houses and neighborhoods.
We have nothing like that here. No where in the state. Not even Jackson(Cali East).
-

The neighborhood is hit and miss actually. There are really nice houses that have been kept up or remodeled and their yards are kept really nice then there are houses that look like they are falling apart with yards to match. I think that is the pitfalls of older neighborhoods.
-

I'd trade the nice yard and beautiful weather (I am starting to really like the weather) for Texas (or anywhere in the middle of the US) anyday.
-
For those of you who look at this post again, do you think a small porch swing in the back of the porch (on the left of the picture) would be too much stuff for the porch? We found a 4' wood swing that is painted black (they also have it in white) at Lowes today that was inexpesnive. My girls really want a swing but I worry that it would be too much. There is a large area where there isn't anything, you can see where the chairs are on the right in the picture to get a sense of the area. I was thinking of putting several potted plants back there but since we found this swing I am seriously considering it.
Also which color would you get, Black or White? There will be black awnings on the two windows on the left, the gate is black, the mailbox, doorbell, house numbers and shutters are also black.
-
A four-foot swing doesn't sound out of place. I would paint it white to match the rest of the house.
-
I immediately thought "white" when I saw the word swing.
-
White swing, seat cushion and pillows to blend in with the porch furniture. And potted flowers, of course! :-)
-
Here is the porch swing

Again here is my patio furniture
(http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y131/Foam_Kitty/IMG_4886.jpg)
-
Hmmm... I can see why you are considering the black, too. From the curb, the white works, but on the porch the black does. At this point, I would throw my hands in air and go with the plants!
This is fun for me. Porch furniture is another non-existant item here. I've seen some, but it's usually rolling along out in a pasture spooking the cattle until it finally gets stuck in some draw, sadly mangled.
-
White swing. Would probably look better and be cooler to the touch
-
White because of the railing and the trim...and you are looking at similar texture, rather than the texture of the furniture. If you put a cushion on the seat and some pillows, you will basically only see the slats which will blend with the posts of the railing... :-)
-
Yes, I love porch swings...you can go with black or white...white would match the trim, but black would match the shutters.
-
White swing, seat cushion and pillows to blend in with the porch furniture. And potted flowers, of course! :-)
Exactly what I say too. White swing would be nice with blending cushions and pillows. I've always had a porch swing at every house I've ever owned. A porch is just not a porch without one.
-
I'm still waiting for the "something else" pictures.
-
Yes, I love porch swings...you can go with black or white...white would match the trim, but black would match the shutters.
But does the carpet match the drapes?
