I find myself drawn to a place I have never been.. Detroit.

There are such lovely homes there..historical homes.. and they are DIRT cheap.

I am not sure I could convince my husband to move there, but I think I want to buy a house there/..just in case..

This one is spectacular, but there are also MANY wonderful places that are tremendous bargains..Two & Three-flats.. Big beautiful houses...some with multi-year tenants in-place already..

I'm a bit afraid of being an out-of-state landlady though..

It was simply amazing to see how quickly property value's changed. I mean literally, you'd go from one block where being white will get you shot, to the next block where your paying $500,000 for a house.

oh but inertia can be a wonderous thing. The auto industry stuck around for a very long time even as it was strangled more and more by taxes and competition.

Yep there will be. You're forgetting the Christmas penis bomber pop/fizzle. Those Al Q guys don't quit till they accomplish what they set out to do. You can expect another try at a loud BOOM over Detroit in a few years once they figure another way to do it.
