Report: Spitzer to Make Announcment Following Admission of 'Involvement' With Prostitution Ring
Monday, March 10, 2008
E-Mail Respond Print
New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer scheduled an abrupt announcement Monday from his office as news reports were breaking that the governor told staffers he was involved in a prostitution ring.
Spitzer, who was especially tough on corporate crime as New York attorney general, told his staff Monday that he was involved in the ring, according to The New York Times' Web site, citing an anonymous administration official. No further details regarding his involvement were immediately available.
Just last week, four arrests were made in connection to a high-profile prostitution ring involving big-dollar clients.
HAHAHAHAHA! :rotf: It's a ring broken up by the Feds! :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:
I'm listening to the beginnings of the press conference now! :rotf:

Any mention of the fact that he is a...............DEMOCRAT..........I didn't think so......
doc

remember there was some 'high level' politico that was going to be busted in some sex thing? the DUmp thought it was definitely going to be the GOP, and speculated about who it might be for weeks.
then, nothing ever came of it.
HuffPo was going to break it .. or threatened to, then it was some other big time name (NYT?) I dont remember, but the whole story just floated away..
until today.

:-) :-) :-)
I wonder who else might get caught up in this dragnet...... the possibilities are endless....
-
Watch Hillary backpedal like no tomorrow! Didn't she already have to eat her words on his illegal alien policies?
-
I wonder what the DUmmies will have to say about this?
Especially considering the Dems have people thinking that ONLY Republicans get caught in things like this.

He has been indicted for making interstate phone calls to a whore house in DC. Each one of his numerous phone calls carries a max jail time of 5 years in prison. Don't you just love the FBI taping or getting hold of his cell phone records. This could not happen to a better deserving prick. Wall Street is celebrating. Plus, there are charges that he used the NY state police to dig up dirt on his Repub. opponent.
This jackass has yet to formally announce his resignation. I guess he thinks that his wealth and being a Dummiecrat entitles him to keep his job.

It has already started. I have one thread in The Dumpster, but there is so much at DU on this it is hard to pick out the special madness. :hyper:

He supposedly had the New York State Police trail NYS Senator Joe Bruno, and report on all his movements. The Albany Times Union has had it out for Sen. Bruno, as well.

The word is he will resign tonight.

They have kissed Spitzers backside for years in NY,the SNL jokes about Obamas treatment by the press are nothing in comparison.

This just came out of the blue. Let’s not forget that he wanted to give illegals driver’s license.

Indeed!
In all seriousness, I have to ask: What are the odds of him resigning?
To me, it seems he will likely pull a "Kwame" and just go into hiding. :whatever:

ACC, the odds of him resigning are 100%. Let's remember something--he's a "superdelegate" who supports HilLIARy. While it is true that he's innocent until proven guilty, his attornies are hurrying up the New York State Thruway (I-87), as I type, to Albany, with his resignation letter. And, Lieutenant Governor David Paterson has supposedly reached out to a judge to administer the Oath of Office, to make him the Governor.

Not worth a new thread, but this opinion piece from India Daily is hilarious.
Hillary Clinton supporter Eliot Spitzer’s prostitution ring connection just make it more important to ask for ‘change we can believe’
Kartik Punaskar
Mar. 10, 2008
The democratic party in NY and NJ is corrupted for a long time. But what happened today is beyond any thing we can think of. The man who was giving driver’s license to every illegal alien and a strong supporter of Hillary Clinton is now indicted on being ‘client number 9’ in the prostitution ring.
This is just another reason why we need a real change – not the one that Hillary Clinton is calling for. This is the reason why Obama must lead the Democratic party.
Democratic party of NY and NJ is corrupted. PA is not far behind. We need a thorough change and morality back in NY and NJ politics. A former NJ Governor was also caught in illegitimate homosexual activities a few years back.
The immorality and corruption is so deep rooted in the politicians of NY, NJ and PA, that it is unbelievable.
This sheds dark lights on typical Hillary Clinton supporters.

Oh, okay. Thanks for the info, since I've only read a couple of articles so far regarding the situation.

It seems now that the reason for the delay is there is some kind of behind the scenes wrangling going on about the transfer of power and making it all legal and such.
Peter Kin (R-NY) is on with Hannity and he said he expects Spitzer to resign by this evening.

Yup. The rumor is 7 PM . . .

People who adamently say they are not going to resign, usually end up resigning. I am not surprised by Spitzer.

$5,000 is a lot for prostitutes. However being shamed on The Smoking Gun on criminal indictment is for a lifetime, with not price.

He's got at least on fan on TOS. Although Spitzer apparently "paid too much". *eyeroll*

One of the local radio talk show hosts in Albany ssaid it was $6500.

People who adamently say they are not going to resign, usually end up resigning. I am not surprised by Spitzer.
Greta Van Sustern, and Judge Andrew Napolitano, were both speculating that what was going on in between his press conference and what could be happening soon is that he's cutting a deal with Federal prosecutors to resign in exchange for not being prosecuted for the wire transfers. Also, it is reported that he needed to be reminded of just who "Kristen" was, and that he had money "on account," which means that he had done this before.

D"oooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Elliot Spitzer made lots of enemies and you would think he would be more careful about it.
-
Well, at least he didn't come out and say he was gay. Although that would have been quite hilarious.
Seriously, though, I heard the audio, then I saw a repeat of the presser. Mrs. Spitzer looked like hell. After what he pulled, I think that whole "rebuilding trust" issue is moot. If I did that to my wife, there'd be just a spokesman with her, and the only thing that would remain of me would be my balls.
What an ass, especially since Spitzer made it a point to praise himself for taking down prostitution rings while he was DA/AG. Yet that side of the aisle has the audacity to crucify a conservative or center-right person over the same issue. I hope he resigns, because with the whole laundering issue, that's a sure ticket to Federal Pound-me-in-the-ass prison, and I don't think having the state legislature going through an impeachment process is going to make things any easier.

I don't get it either. He busted up prostitution rings. He had a lot of enemies. Oh and welcome to CC. Bugs Bunny sucks.

i cant believe he pays 5500 bucks for sex... is he that big of a degenerate that his own wife wont do stuff with him?

Spitzer is rich and like many politicians he thinks he is above the law and thinks he can get away with anything. He is a sick SOB to haul his wife up on that platfrom.
-

From everything I've read and seen of him...he's pretty damn arrogant.
Bragging about busting people for the very same thing he's doing and thinking he won't get cuaght seems to fit his personality.

One of the accountants down at work is married to the "press secretary" for Spitzer. He just told me that he wasn't sure that he'd see his wife last night, from all of the calls coming in. He confirms that Spitzer is unbelievably arrogant. So, then, one could conclude that this couldn't happen to a nicer guy.

How does his wife not notice the tens of thousands of dollars that were being spent?

He is rich and probably has numerous checking & savings accounts, hedge fund accounts, money market, stock, CD's, etc. However, if he was dipping into the public till or taking payoffs, he is in big trouble. If that is the case, he will be looking at hard time behind bars.
-
The amount the AP claimed is $80,000. That's a lot, even on a Governor's salary.
-
Okay, word now is that he'll resign tomorrow. :whatever:
I think it's going to take impeachment to get him out of office.

well, til he does... we now have t shirts :-)
"Client 9" T-shirts hit the Web
Tue Mar 11, 2:59 PM ET
NEW YORK (Reuters) - Who really is "Client 9?"
The New York Times says it's the code name for New York Gov. Eliot Spitzer in court papers that link him to a prostitution ring, but now anyone can be "Client 9" with T-shirts available online just a day after the scandal broke.
From simply "Client 9" with a large lipstick smooch over the top to "Just Call Me CLIENT 9," designers on Web sites like www.cafepress.com and www.zazzle.com are cashing in on reports that Spitzer had hired a high-priced prostitute.
"Look like a governor in this stylish CLIENT 9 design," one designer advertises on www.cafepress.com.
The two online retail sites allow designers to upload their own graphics to print on products such as T-shirts and mugs.

How does his wife not notice the tens of thousands of dollars that were being spent?
It would seem that she doesn't care:
NEW YORK — The New York Times reports Silda Wall Spitzer is urging her disgraced husband not to resign, according to close aides of the governor.

From what I heard Sheldon Silver (the Dem Speaker of the Assembly of NY) say this morning, impeachment isn't going to happen . . . unless the 66% of NYers surveyed by Marist College call their Assemblymen and demand it.

According to a radio report this morning, 70% of the public believe he should resign, and 66% are in favor of impeachment. The reporter did not quote the source of the poll, but I found a story here:

$80k for a Ho is a lot of money to try to hide. Wonder if she paid taxes on that. ::)

It's done.
Wow, talk about "in with a bang, out with a whimper". ::)
-
yeah, I think the after effects will be far more interesting.
according to Piro, on FOX, Spitzer has 'the best lawyer' on the planet now, so she is inferring that Spitzer is going to be facing federal charges that are pretty serious.
as for his wife, it was reported that she didnt want him to resign and as a lawyer herself and married to such an arrogant, aggressive guy... maybe she's that aggressive and arrogant herself?

No doubt the headlines are far from over. I also have no doubt that the coverage downright ugly in it's one-sidedness. It's particularly sad to me as this guy was an immoral creep long before he got into his current mess. :banghead:
-
yeah, the comments from the press are interesting..
"he had no friends or supporters up there with him on the podium"
"you cant find anyone to say anything nice about the guy"
"he is considered self righteous by most New York insiders"
and so on..
in other news .. a reporter on FOX just said that 'no deal' has been made between Spitzer and the federal attorneys as of yet. so, he hasnt cut a deal in order to resign without charges as of yet.

His three daughters are going through Hell. That's who I really feel for. They're just old enough to know what their father did (18, 15, 13), yet not old enough to really realize that not all men are like that.

oh gosh no, prostitution is a victimless crime.
all the libs say so.. :whatever:
and did anybody catch that split screen shot of McGreevey and his wife, along with Spitzer and his wife?
the women had on matching pearls and light blue suits. the men had on striped red ties and dark suits.
Rush made a comment on it yesterday, but I didnt see the photo until today... his comment: "Do the Dems have a rule book for the walk of shame and what to wear?" yikes... that was creepy.

Yes. There have been so many that it's just standard operating procedure now....quite common place.

Wolf Blitzed just brought up an excellent question to George Pataki..."where were all the state troopers assigned to guard the Govenor when all of this was going on?"
Pataki said he was confused by that too because he was basically guarded 24/7.

It is my understanding that the state troopers were at that hotel. I doubt that the state would prosecute him for using public employees though.

She must not be too bothered by it. :whatever:
I had the unkind thought today that if John Edwards had cheated on his wife after the media circus he created over her cancer, he would probably have the Democrat nomination wrapped up.

i think the implication must be that many, many people knew what this guy was doing .. and helped him out. who do state troopers report to?
and didnt Clinton use state troopers as well in his escapades? Maybe there needs to be a new federal law against using state troopers/employees in nefarious activities? although, maybe there already is one..

in watching Spitzer's wife's attitude the two times I've ever seen her, which was this week, she seems very impassive and almost non-plussed.
i am not that good of an actress though.. if my husband were standing up there admitting such a thing, i think i'd be pretty hard pressed not to be in a boiling rage. i wouldnt be able to hide my emotions. although, maybe she's on Xanax or something..

Maybe his marriage is one of convience like the Clintons. Senator Vitter's wife was very pathetic looking. I don't know what the assholes think they are gaining by dragging there wives up on the stage and embarrising the crap out of them. Very, very selfish to me. I don't think if the reverse was true that most men would stand up there and be humiliated.
-
I would love to meet the guy who came up with this!
