White House nightmare persists
By Edward Luce
Published: January 22 2010 19:21 | Last updated: January 22 2010 19:21
At the end of Barack Obama’s worst week since taking power a year ago, the US president’s fortunes look set only to deteriorate over the coming days. Following the shock defeat of the Democratic candidate in Massachusetts on Tuesday, a move that deprived the president of his 60-seat super-majority in the Senate and left his legislative agenda in tatters, Mr Obama has just four days to reboot the system.
The US president had originally delayed next week’s State of the Union address to Congress in the hope he would get his signature healthcare reform bill enacted in time. That prospect, already waning, was killed dead by the voters in Massachusetts. A growing number of Democrats believe the nine-month effort could collapse altogether.
...
“Nor can Mr Obama rely on unity within his own party, which has been in disarray, if not panic, since Tuesday. For example, Mr Obama’s more populist tack on Wall Street re-regulation failed to attract endorsement from Chris Dodd, chairman of the Senate banking committee, even though he was present when Mr Obama made the announcement.
...
In short, Mr Obama’s nightmare January could easily slip into a nightmare February. “Unless and until the president changes the way his White House, works, things are going to continue to go badly for him,†says the head of a Democratic think-tank. “Heads still have to roll.â€

It only took him a year to implode. The rookie mistakes have culminated into the collapse of his party. This is so much more than "the majority always loses seats in the mid-term elections", this is epic failure that going forward we will bookmark as supporting evidence to lay claim he is the worst U.S. president in our nation's history.

The reality of a Barack Obama isn't just a shame. It's a damn shame.
Having "everything black" gauged by this silly ridiculous man is an injustice and insult to all black Americans. How long will it be now before anyone takes a serious look at an actual qualified black candidate for high office? It will be a while.
And this Obama clown isn't even "black".
Maybe Obama was the plan all along. The plan of the deeply racist and hate-filled socialist American left.

The magnitude and swiftness of the implosion is a surprise, to me anyway. I expected it to be slower and thereby less drastic.

Let me preface my comment by stating that I voted for Ambassador Keyes in the 1996 and 2000 R Presidential primaries. My criteria were his stances and experience. In Obama, many Americans fooled themselves into voting a bright, shiny empty-suit symbol into a position that would challenge the most substantial.

I voted for Keyes in 1996. I was not so keen on Keyes by 2000. I would vote for him today, though.

Keyes made comments some time after the 2000 election that seemed to express support for affirmative action and/or "reparations". In my books, "affirmative action" is a euphemism meaning "racist quotas". And "reparations are absurd for at least six reasons: 1.) Slavery ended nearly a century and a half ago, so those actually damaged by it are long dead; 2.) A substantial number of blacks in the US came here (or their ancestors did) after slavery ended; 3.) A substantial number (probably a majority) of whites in the US came here (or their ancestors did) after slavery ended (that includes 3/4 of my ancestors); 4.) The ancestors of a substantial number of whites in the US fought in the Civil War for purposes that included ending slavery; 5.) Many whites whose ancestors lived in the South when slavery existed did not own slaves, opposed slavery and, if they fought for the South in the Civil War, did so for reasons other than preserving slavery; 6.) Not all slave owners were white - some were black or Native Americans.
I do find a couple of things sad. I find it sad that, of the three significant D black candidates for the Presidency - Jesse, Al and Obama - two are huckstering frauds and the third an empty suit. I find it sad that many/most Ds are unaware the there has been a significant R black candidate for the Presidency - and if you so informed them, many would all but call you a liar.

There's no "all but" about it - they would call you a liar, and not only that, they'd call you a damned, racist liar.

Undies, I don't disagree, but 97% of black Americans will dismiss the bolded comment out of hand, and still consider him to be the "second coming"......which unfortunately, IMO doesn't say a lot about the caliber of the black population......
That said, there are many extremely intelligent, motivated, and educated black Americans that wouldn't touch politics with the proverbial ten foot pole......they are too busy making fortunes in the business world, or if they are motivated to public service, do so in the military, academia, or the judiciary........only the stupid ones seem to end up in elected office, the Shiela Jackson Lee's of this world, because the smart ones simply don't want to get involved in the politics of "race baiting" that seems necessary to electively serve......Obama states that he wants a "post-racial" America, but he is doing exactly the opposite.
THAT.....is truly the shame of it all.......

I know it would be accused of being racist but that is only because the left has picked and chosen what is and isn`t so who cares and here goes...
The black culture of today that supports dems by a 90 % margin has become convinced as dogma that they are oppressed, blameless nor responsible for their lot in life and entitled to a special set of rules.
No matter how many times and for how many decades they have been lied to by democrats they will still follow the "promise" that libs will make it all good for them without any effort on their part.
It is a belief system akin to a religion and I am not sure anything will change it.

I dunno; it seems to me that a lot of intelligent African-Americans are beginning to get real headaches from the cognitive dissonance of the justifiable pride they feel in having the nation's first African-American President in office, and the gut-wrenching sense that he's selling them out to the hard-core liberals so that they and their children will be forced to wander in the deserts of the racial ghettoes for another generation to come.

Unfortunately your premise, although logical, is not reflected in political polling......there has been NO significant erosion of Obama's support amongst black Americans.......

Hi,
When Gingrich became speaker in 1994 he wanted to change the wording on the civil rights amendment regarding descrimination. Apparently it says you cannot descriminate against....any number of things. He wanted to change it to you can not descriminate "for or against" and Jesse and frends went apeshit! If was very clear they never wanted equality, they wanted preferential treatment. To me BO is nothing more than an extension of that belief. Racial justice is nothing more than a code word that means steal from those who work their asses off and give it to the blacks because 250 years ago people were mean to them.

Tell me this doesn't look like the ghost of that other far left socialist bastage FDR in the window. And no. It's not photoshopped. You can see it in the origional.

Somebody needs to pass a note to the senile old RINO coot that he needs to sit down, shut the hell up about anything to do with health care, and 'retire with dignity' when this session of Congress is finally over. The whole damned country is just about three steps from going to blows over Congress-shits and their ideas on what we want/need in the way of ****ing health care.

OK, here's the problem with Obama:
http://drsanity.blogspot.com/2005/04/narcissism-and-society-part-i.html
Add to this his "father figure" in Hawaii was Frank Marshall Davis anf g.dad was a socialist stay at home g.dad while his flower child mom "anthropologist" pranced around the "third world" leaving him abandoned (BHO Sr. having fled back to Kanya after tiring of her ) by both parents. Is there any wonder he'd fugged up?
Not to mention his confessed pot/coke habit, being badmouthed by Sr.
when he did visit , and making a religion of Saul Alinsky's writings, and his emersion in the most currupt political machine ever, the Chicago Political Mob did not add one whit to anything resembling self esteem or give him a stable moral base.
So he modeled his public persona after H. P. Long ( condenced info: http://www.everything2.com/index.pl?node_id=54906 )
EVERYONE marveled at his intellegence, and I can't understand why. Am I missing something
-
The whole "White House Nightmare" thing confuses me. Shouldn't we be considering the nations nightmare that resides in the White House?

It seems that possibly, above average intelligence makes for a rather poor president, unless it is tempered, by having to struggle through life.

Hi,
Intelligence does not mean smart either. I do not give a damn how intelligent BO is, he is stupid enough to believe communism is good for the masses.....or egotistical to think that he should be king.

Hey 5412.
I noticed that Buckyball invaded the the party thread on the Cubs board. I don't know if you have ventured into the Dumpster on this board, but he would fit right in with the liberals on democratic undergound.

He needs to be put out to pasture. He has done enough harm to the Repub party with his policies on campaign finances, torture, immigration, etc.

Hi,
Yes I saw that also. He will not respond to logic one bit. Zip also has a blind spot when it comes to politics and I decline to take the bait with him. Tried to get him facts a year ago and he got so upset he took a year off from the board. Notice his bait remark about Palin.

HI,
Did you see the Beck interview with Palin? Beck was to the point with her like why the hell are you helping a progressive like McCain? Her answer was he is an honorable man and I promised him I would help and I keep my promises. Beck backtracked a bit about him being honorable, but they both agreed McCain was not a conservative.
Personally, I would prefer Palin does not help McCain; particularly after reading her book about all the crap they did to her. I really do suspect that it was not McCain but some staffer with an inflated sense of power.

sarah was thoroughly betrayed by the MCCain campaign. Pretty obviously it was someone who was dominating stratigy, and not McCain. McCain's flaws wwere not masked by the campaign and his assets were not emphacised. Sarah was illused and very very poorly coached by the same people. That aand the libleous and currupt false charges filed Against her under Alaska's badly flawed public curruption laws has left her gunshy.
This will not go away until she findsthe tactic withn herself that will alow her to deal with hostile reporters effectively. Barry does not get the criticism from the MSM even tho he is less capable of dealing wwith crriticism, as the stuttering YOUTUBE tapes show.
Frankly, I'd rather she be president than Barry, or even anyone with a line in the water for the job today.

I keep hearing that Obama is an intellectual as an excuse for any and all problems when he falls down on his face. Do people really think so.???
Like the Chicago Mob in the 1930's he just climbed the ladder of politics on the coat tails of others that were more ruthless then him, those who saw a sucker they could use and benefit from.
He is not in any way a self made man, Movers and shakers keep their eye out for promising up and coming men and woman in the same way Colleges watch the High Schools for future athletes.
Lots of preening went into Obama, perhaps years of being the Golden Boy of the future.
As he got older shields went up around him, records were LOST, all his activity's down to who he married were Skillfully arranged. It would not do for him to marry or date a white woman, there was allways someone older and wiser to direct him on the path they wanted him to walk.
Obama, being no different from the normal male thrived on the attention, the flattering and YOU-DE-MAN, the false smiles and coming to believe everything he was told.
I have seen nothing in his speeches that appear to come from this great intellect of his.
I believe it is easier to manipulate him now then 20 years ago. He has become to believe his own press releases, Yet I believe he still allowes others to make his decisions so as he thinks, when things sour, not his fault.
Only now do I think he is realizing that the people he has surrounded himself with the people that he appointed as his advisers not because of any knowledge of them but because he was advised to do, is his Nemesis.
Advisers, some woman he never heard of is now chief cooker and bottle washer for the Anti-Terrorist arm of the government. What can he do he appointed her, over some General in the Pentagon to run things with knowledge and know how.
Look at all the rest of his appointees, how many does he know personally from the old days.?
Poor Obama, he had little chance to climb the ladder as most do, learn hard lessons on each step. Just taken up- 2 steps and bounced to the top with no idea what to do with out being advised to do.
I think it was Machelle that let the cat out of the bag when she announced that for the first time in her life she was proud of America. Holy Crap Barry, put a muzzle on your wife. What country if not America is she proud of.??
This week when Obama has his State of the Union Speech, and some say he insists on writing his own speech, he will be sitting at his desk trying to figure out what to tell or not tell the American Public.
Knock on the door in in come 5 men, proof readers and editors to HELP HIM.
He may recognise one or two but the other 3 are strangers. He has been told to TRUST these men, they are just there to insert commas or give stage directions. You know, at the word fight, put your fist in the air. Come to the podium with a bounce of confidence, look stern at this paragraph, give a chuckle and the upward glance kids do when caught at something, but smile at the same time.
The next few years are going too be a nightmare for him, he lacks the self confidence to move on his own, perhaps he cannot move move on his own because of those pushing him down the path they want him to go.
Time will tell, when he places his horse in the Senate and places Poor Nancy in a brothel , then I will know History is repeating itself.

Nope but I can see both of their contrasting points of view. I am not thrilled with her campaining for him either. However, I do admire her for keeping her word; I do not think think she can put him over the top.

I think that'd be just as true with the bolded word omitted, it seems like in a rather short span of years we've gone from people not being able to get elected because they're Black, to people getting elected because they're Black.

Hi,
You have discovered the tip of the iceberg. The real problem as I see it is people who are appointed or promoted because they are black, they cannot be fired in the next election cycle quite as easily.
