Protecting the people from corporations is fascism.

Never mind it's the lower middle class shopkeepers that will go out of buisness very soon or
be shot for breaking the law.
How many more months left to "Rule by Decree" law is renewed ?

73. Hardly a dictator. Been watching too much Fox News lately?
Because that's THEIR talking point.
I thought a dictator was one who dictates through armed force?
How is this NOT being a dictator?

4. It's fascism, pure and simple
A police state.
It wouldn't be a Chavez thread without ERetardi:

9. Regulation is not fascism, it's regulation. Updated at 1:28 PM
I know that the idea is foreign to you but some governments do try to protect their people from predators.

17. It's also retarded. Price controls have never worked anywhere.
He is going to destroy the country, and make it like Zimbabwe.
But he wears a red beret so the coffee shop revolutionaries are ok with it.

37. The only thing pure in that statement is the bullshit.
And the simple is in your mind.
If a police state means that corporations aren't allowed to blithely rob and pillage the population, then I wish we lived in a police state.
I've got a gun and a uniform...and I don't like you. Still wanna try the police state thingy?

51. If a "corporation" raises prices in Venezuela...
wouldn't another "corporation" try to undercut that price as much as they could to try to increase sales? A hard concept to grasp, I know.
goddam freeper troll!!!

61. Not if those corporations wanted to work in collusion
in order to create political instability. If all of the big corporations in Venezuela are united in their hatred of President Chavez, then they might work together to cause him problems by raising prices, hoping to turn voters against him. The big food manufacturers have already been caught hording food in their warehouses in order to create shortages and drive up prices.
There's really nothing unusual about the concept of collusion. It happens. That's why there are laws against it. Coca Cola and Pepsi have been fined for colluding to prevent losing their collective market share to local competitors. Unregulated capitalism isn't as neat and straightforward as its adherents like to pretend.
Your message is a classic example of dissembling.

16. If you think that steady popularity and winning elections for a decade is "short term" Updated at 1:28 PM
then Chavez is not the clown here.
Man, I love these dire unanchored predictions that never come true. By now, they should be a pop art form. lol
George Bush won elections for 8 years.

When private business is seized by heavily armed military forces, thats just "regulation".
When you make the currency worth half as much overnight then the prices MUST double or your going out of business, troops or not.

They are fine if its the government robbing and pillaging the population, which is what is really happening in Venezuela.
-
I demand that the government do something...the DUmmies have cornered the market on stoopid.
-
Hmm. So if we had a Police State here that shut down corporations, I wonder how long the Corporation for Public Broadcasting would last?
I may have to subscribe to BitchKittys mimeographed newsletter and get myself an armband.

73. Hardly a dictator. Been watching too much Fox News lately?
Because that's THEIR talking point.
Hardly a cogent arguement. These threads drive me crazy. They are willfully ignorant of history and the horrors therein.
Only slightly off-topic, but did anyone see Glenn Beck yesterday? He showed the preview trailer for his documentary on communism and the holocaust created by it. The trailer itself was as frightening as any horror movie, with the added bonus that it was real. It airs on Jan 22, so please set your DVRs. It looks very, very powerful.

I think if you owned a grocery store in Venezuela, it would be time to sell everything perishable without restocking (Since you wouldn't be able to do that anyway), take all the canned goods home, and shutter the place.

I read that a European-owned store was already siezed, by troops. Sounds like a dictator to me.

You would also like the water and electricity rationing. Bet you will love it when the food rationing starts and it will.
Looks like Mambo Chimp ain't the guy to make collectivism work either.

Tha will likely happen this year. Then again with devaluation and stuff, its defacto rationing already

Well, exactly; all human economies are economies of scarcity, if price is not allowed to function as a floating allocator for goods, then other means come into play, like 'How long are you willing to wait in line for your loaf at that next bread delivery,' which is how things worked in the old Soviet Union. Of those who didn't have an 'In' on the supply pipeline, only the hardy souls who were most willing to cue up and stay in line got the bread...if there were 100 loaves, the first 100 people got a loaf. Rationing did not require cards or stamps, supplies were rationed de facto by testing who could stand the cold and spare the time to wait for the next delivery. Inventory was of course unknown, since the governing factor in obtaining goods had become availability, not price.

If there were 100 loafs you can bet that several people down the line have already absconded with 20 of them, with some reserved for local apparatchicks too. I doubt they waited in line.
-
True, but I'm talking about what actually hit the stores and how it was distributed, not the holes and corruption in the system up the pipeline.

Its a messed up distribution system, thats for sure. I expect Venezuela will have something like that during the year. heh. We're a coupla years behind them.

How can anyone defend this tyrant? The idea itself just baffles me. I knew DUmmies was with the stoopid, but even they know better than this, don't they????????

Nope. Hopey McChangesnorter could do the same thing here and they would fall in line, and rationalize that its good for the country.

He carries the Red Star before him, no measures for "progress" are unjustified then.
-
The biggest thing wrong with Chavez' Socialism is the people suffer while he and his cronies will always have bread and wine. I'll believe his BS when he too, is standing in line.
Never going to happen and the DUmmies know it!
