Title: Any big fun-filled plans for New Years?
Post by: Mr Mannn on December 27, 2009, 11:55:27 AM
I'm staying at home, so I'm gonna have to live vicariously though your plans...

I used to go to parties every year. But the sheer number drunks on the road have cooled my ardor somewhat for late night festivities.

That and I'm 51, so no one expects me to actually stay up that late let alone party.

and whilst we are at it, whats your NY traditions?

My celebration involves old monster movies and MST3K. I have 4 new (to me) episodes to watch.
Bloodlust. Catalina Caper. The Creeping Terror. and The Skydivers. and MST3K marathon!
I own about 20 other episodes as well, including my two all time favorites:
The Beginning of the End (giant man eating grasshoppers invade Chicago), and
The Thing That Wouldn't Die (a disembodied head that mind controlls people)

Pepsi is a must. Iced tea. and a dip with sour cream and Lipton's onion soup mix.
And something special for dinner. Haven't decided what yet.

when midnight comes. all TV must be muted, and the door opened and I just listen to the revelers all over town scream, holler, honk, and set off firecrackers. But i won't make a peep. You attract zombies that way...

sounds like a great NYE to me! I haven't gone out in years - I don't know if it's worth dealing with the dunkeness in the bars and on the roads.

I'll be working on Jan 1st, so no plans for me.  I usually don't celebrate that holiday... I never saw the big deal in it.

We haven't had a drink in 18 months, but this New Year's Eve is our 20th anniversary, so we'll split a bottle of champagne and watch TV.

We're going to a house party...

Other half doesn't drink anymore so he's the DD....and Runnin' Buddy and I are looking forward to meeting all the new wives and girlfriends of this particular group.  :evillaugh:

Most of the guys have dumped their long time wives and have new ones or girlfriends in the last 5 years. We're thinking we will be the oldest women there....and also have the highest IQ's.... :uhsure:

HA! I work at 4am so not only will there be NO party animal released, I'll be in bed before 8. I may wake up at midnight to pee if the artillery barrage gets to loud to sleep through though.  :-)
We're also leaving on a 7 day roadtrip to VA Friday afternoon so for the most part no parties for the Randy clan. We'll have to leave those for the Vaca. :hyper:

ETA; I hate Road Trips BTW so this should be fun?

I'm going to be watching the news from Baltimore, to see if there's any natural gas explosions there New Year's Eve.

Professional curiosity.

No, really, I'll be away.

I'm going to a murder mystery dinner up in a little mountain town on New Year's Eve.  Then up the range to ride a horse I don't know, for people I haven't met, in an event I know none of the rules for.  Wish me luck.

The family and I are planning to drive to Bristol, TN, see the Speedway in Lights display they put up every year.

We got a gift card from a friend for Applebee's, and what better way to celebrate my birthday (Dec. 29th), New Years and our 7th wedding anniversary (Jan. 2nd), than with my wonderful bride....

I changed my mind, I am going to spend it with you.   :cheersmate:
Y'all realize that Disneyland will be so insanely crowded that you won't be able to move. ( I kid you not, I wasted a new years eve there once) the fireworks are nice but without being able to move its no fun.

And kiss off the rides, its just not gonna happen.
After 12 noon, I managed to get on two rides and that was it.
I didn't even get out of the parking lot till 2 AM.

Besides, zombies are attracted to bright lights and loud noises. Disneyland is doomed.

LOL! I think CR would find me dull anyway. I have about 30 years on that young lady.  Yep, I shall spend it with my peers, the old farts, of CC. :-)

Anyplace worth going is going to charge an arm and a leg, and then there's that whole cop thing to deal with, regardless of "ride availability."  Nope--sitting in front of the computer with Sam Adams Blackberry Witbier or Kahlua and cream, yukking it up with ya'll.

I am having a lovely git-together at my house, because I don't go anywhere on NYE.  There will be 6 of us, and my guests will all be spending the night, because they also do not drive on NYE.  So, no governor on the booze, but I will have to have coffee, as I typically fall asleep before Midnight.  Will finally have an opportunity to show off my decorations, and cook tons of food.

Are you planning a midnight breakfast?

We've done that before and it's fun!

The four of us decided if we manage to stay awake and relatively "alert"....after we leave the party we are going to...we're going to IHOP.  :-)

I thought about it, but we are going to have SO much food anyway.  I am doing a brunch in the am, when everyone gets up, and a buddy is bringing all the fixins for bloody marys.

I love IHOP.

That's a good idea.

I'm probably going to do a late brunch since Son's girlfriend will be here. It's going to be very simple though...I'm going to do one of those sausage/cheese stratas that I can do the day before and just bake on Friday morning. I figure if I do that...they can eat whenever they wake up....we can eat when we want.

I think I'm going to do a pork loin with sauerkraut, mashed potatoes and cinnamon apples for later in the evening...to eat in between football games.

I'm trying to make this weekend as easy as possible... :-)

IHOP is open all night...I think. If not...then Waffle House should be...

My wife's father and stepmother are coming down from NH and spending a couple nights with us (including New Year's Eve) before they head out to Florida. They'll bring lobster; I'll grill filet mignon. A good night!

New Years Day? Slow-cooked pork roast with sourkraut.

Yum.

Catalina Caper and The Creeping Terror were both excellent!!

I like Mike better, but I love the entire series.
The Sci-Fi series had better back stories for the crew and better opportunities for parody.
