But when I do, when I DO... I shall remember all the little people. :-)
TOTN: What would you do with 200 Million?
-
I would take care of some folks I know, find several places to live as the season required and play golf, lots of golf.

I'll take care of you if I win, you take care of me if you win.... deal? I figure if I network with enuf peeps on the web, I will increase my chances of finding a weener.

TOTN: Depending on how much I get after taxes,
Build a house on some riverfront property here in Savannah, with a boat dock (hey, I want a party barge... I prefer to cruise instead of speed. LOL, although I would like a JetSki too ) .
Donate $20 million to charity (St. Jude's and Susan G. Komen Foundation).
Give some to family, definitely. Give my mom enough money to move down here and away from someone I really despise right now.
Invest the rest.
Edit: Oh, and pay the 2007 Mazda 6 off. :lmao:
-
Well clearly I didn't win either! :-)
Hmm...I haven't really thought about what I would do with that kind of windfall. I would keep it a secret from everyone until I figured out what I planned on doing with it and how much I planned on giving to my friends and family. Then the checks would come with an iron clad written agreement. At least that's how I'd like to think I'd act. I may just roll around in it! :-)

But when I do, when I DO... I shall remember all the little people. :-)
TOTN: What would you do with 200 Million?
First, I would set up a trust consisting of shares in $10,000 increments. Then I would alot shares to those with whom I intend to share the wealth. Everyone I know would get at least one share. The Lord would get 2000 shares tax free first.
My wife, myself, our children and their children would be well taken care of. Everyone would receive a GENEROUS monthly income from their shares while the remainder is left invested. By the time I got through wrapping all the details, my great great great great grandchildren would never want for a thing.

Lying wench! You'll be all like "chubby guy in Dallas who?" :lmao:
(Laugh at me if you want) I'd quit work, but I'd give 30 days notice (I like my boss).
I'd check myself into a hospital and get a thorough "money-is-no-object" checkup. I'd begin getting the best of treatment for things they found wrong.
I'd pull my daughter out of public school and put her in the best private school I could.
I'll add more later.

TOTN: First thing I would do is buy this (http://www.fountainpowerboats.com/boats/sport/42EX_over.asp).
Then, I would buy beaucoup land in NM and OK to build some compounds.

You are so full of bunk, you would not give a 30 day notice. :thatsright: That's like me saying, "no, really, I like this little shack we live in" :-)

I'd finish fixing up my house, pay off my mom's mortgage and get my dad a nice house. Pay off my best friend's medical school loans. Take care of my brother & his wife, set up college funds for my nephews.
Give some to my extended family members.
Give to charity. Pay off my car.
Save & invest the rest and live off the interest.

Give my church and Voice of the Martyrs $10-20 million.
Pay off my CC.
Move out and finish school.
Start a buisness.
Grant an inventor friend of mine 250K.
make sure to save $5-6 million for myself.

Ok, I'm sowwy about the "wench" remark but you SO would not remember "the little people". You would post one last picture of your bare behind on every message board you frequent. In big block letters on the picture it would say "kizz me, I hit teh pwerball. kthxbye!" :lmao:

I've always wanted to check out that mall. Biggest mall I've been to is the Mall of Georgia (that place is Heaven for me), so going to one that's even bigger... WOOT! :-)

For the past 3 drawings, everyone in the office has been donating $5 (mainly out of fear that they would be the last one left). It's funny how you really start convincing yourself you might even have a chance. :lmao:

Money is nice and all, but it has never been important to my happiness. If I had that fortune dropped in my lap, my future possessions would be of better quality, I would probably travel more, and I would indulge a couple of my fantasies, but otherwise I can't imagine my life changing all that much.

LOL. Well my best friend and I had a long conversation during a drive to Austin one night when there was a huge lottery going on.
I would definitely want to help out my family. I like this house, so I'd pay someone money to fix it all up super nice. But in a few years I'd probably move out.
There's a show on A&E I think, where they talk to lotto winners and see what they've spent their money on. Most of them are broke again. I wouldn't waste my money on stupid stuff. Plus you'd have so much even after giving a bunch away, that you can just live off the interest.

I think the worst part of winning is losing your anonymity. I think you would be forced to change the way you live whether you wanted to or not.

My fame would be short lived. I have the money tied up in a trust before I saw a dime. The moochers would be sadly out of luck. Now, what happens after the monthly allowances start rolling in is between the payee and the moochers.
I forgot to mention the 20 million I would give to the Lord would go into a legal investment trust fund for Boys Scouts of America. It could be used only to fight the ACLU and others who attack their organization.

He immediately quit his job, built a new house, numerous cars among other things and bought his wife (not my friend but his 2nd wife) a tanning salon that subsequently went under in less than a year. He had to sell his new house less than a year after he moved into it.
Stupid idiot, I bet he doesn't even have a 401k, he should have put most of it away for retirement.

That's the difference in people. I'd be more the Jed Clampett type. I'd still be wearing my ratty clothes and driving my old truck.
People's ignorance of money has always astounded me. It also made me a good living during my productive years, so I can't complain.

I can understand wanting to buy yourself something you have always wanted if a large windfall fell in your lap but what he did was the most idiotic thing you could do. Another good friend just received a large sum of money when her grandma died. They bought a new boat and she is getting plantation shutters ($10k worth) on most of her windows in her house. The rest is being invested. I don't think they are being idiotic but my friends ex-husband was an idiot before he won the money so I guess I should have known the money wouldn't make him any smarter.
-
Condolences. I don't play the Powerball all that much but if I won, I would learn as much about affluence as possible and then open up affordable affluence education centers where adults, especially those who never had a good economic education, could go and learn the smart ways to become wealthy. But I would also have advanced classes for people who already have a good education in such things but would like a better one.

10K worth of shutters? Wow. She can get the PVC type at Lowe's for around 200 bucks a window. I'd have to intervene. :mental:
I never advised anyone to by a boat. Boats are the most over-priced consumer good out there. You wouldn't believe the number of people who want their own boat to use maybe two weeks out of the year. Boats are for renting only in my Financial Planner book.

I wonder how many people squander their fortune? Probably quite a few. Sounds like you will be leaving a legacy for generations to come.
You know that one friend of mine from high school....the one I call that name? Well her ex-husband won 1.2 million in Vegas and about a year and a half later he was broke.
Gad! And I could have lived the rest of my life on it.
These are custom plantation shutters, they do cost quite a bit. :p
On the boat deal I would have to agree but it is something they really wanted. When I was in high school my parents had a boat. The day my step-dad sold the boat he said, "You know what they say....happiest day of a boat owner's life is the day they buy the boat and the day they sell it.

My parents bought a boat too...well, my dad bought a boat. He paid a thousand dollars for an I/O that needed five thousand dollars worth of work. The trouble was my mother was deathly afraid of water. I never saw my mother in a swimming pool. She got queasy lifting the toilet lid. She would bathe in 3" of water. You think she'd let her kids out on a boat? It was quite the family drama. The boat got sold....for eight hundred dollars.
I'm glad till this day my mother is buried on high ground. I cannot stand the thought of the water table reaching her casket. She would just die!

Hmm I think I would,
Buy CC from Reb
Pay off ACC's car for her.
Give half to Lurkalot.
Send enough money for Frank to feed his cats for life.
Give Chris enough money to get his eye fixed.
Fly all CC'ers to the GTG.
Buy CU from Rob and ban Gator.
And of course the boring, give money to my parents blah blah blah....invest...blah blah blah.
-
I didn't with the powerball but i did get 3 bucks out of it this time.
TOTD I'd have to go buy that island in the Pacific and just stay there while my secret lair is built.

Yall need to start thinking in terms of "compounds".
That's actually a great idea in any case.
Actually a better idea is former USAF ICBM silos and missile sites. Very Secure and the land is CHEAP.

How much does the government take? If I take the 50-year payout instead of the lump sum, do they tax it as income at 35% or is it taxed as gambling at 27%? I'd have to pay for my stinkin' student loans, medical bills, and my car. Putting the rest into a trust sounds like a good idea... I'd probably hire a good tax lawyer, too. :p
Start some new, expensive hobbies like woodworking, travelling, and fishing in Alaska.
Buy a home on the beach.
Buy some really nice guns.
Get a couple of dogs for company.
Living in The Middle Of Nowhere doesn't really appeal to me. I'd have it set aside Just In Case, although living in an old missile silo sounds cool.
Upgrade to the Premium cable TV package.

TOTN: What would you do with 200 Million?
:-* :-* The party will be monumental when you win. :-* :-*
TOTN:
Lots o' stuff... :-)
-
Well clearly I didn't win either!
I'd keep it a secret forever with my husband's family. :lmao:
Oh, don't mind that enormous beach house...its a..umm...friends. :-)

TOTN: What would you do with 200 Million?
Lying wench! You'll be all like "chubby guy in Dallas who?" :lmao:
(Laugh at me if you want) I'd quit work, but I'd give 30 days notice (I like my boss).
I'd check myself into a hospital and get a thorough "money-is-no-object" checkup. I'd begin getting the best of treatment for things they found wrong.
I'd pull my daughter out of public school and put her in the best private school I could.
I'll add more later.
Hey now, you call me a wench and I may just have to act the part..... for once. :-)
You are so full of bunk, you would not give a 30 day notice. :thatsright: That's like me saying, "no, really, I like this little shack we live in" :-)
I hear you...I'd buy a house big enough to ride a car through its hallways and then post the pictures of it along with me rolling in money on DU. :-) Oh and I'd invest the rest... :-)
-
Give my church and Voice of the Martyrs $10-20 million.
Pay off my CC.
Move out and finish school.
Start a buisness.
Grant an inventor friend of mine 250K.
make sure to save $5-6 million for myself.
*TKay*
ditto on the Voice of the Martyrs, Tkay....wonderful organization.

Professionally, I am acquainted with several people that have won large jackpots or that hit the big time dollars in sports contracts. Most of them eventually end up blowing it all. I don't care how much you make, without exercising some self-discipline it tends to evaporate rather quickly. I have seen people that have won big jackpots have to liquidate their annuity in order to pay off their bills. Rags to riches back to rags and worse off than before

TOTD (a day late): Call my boss from my suite at the Wynn and tell him I already quit. Then when I got tired of Vegas (HA!) fly out to the new home near Kapalua (Maui). Biggest decision of the day would be whether I went fishing or scuba diving. Repeat as necessary.

I would buy this boat

It's a 61' Hatteras and everyone invited would fit, though I would leave you on the dock :-)
You could probably fit 30 people in that boat and have room left over.
-
... In big block letters on the picture it would say "kizz me, I hit teh pwerball. kthxbye!" :lmao:
OMG! That is too funny! :rotf:
As for myself .... hummmm .... I want it ALL delivered to my house in 1 dollar bills and dumped in my living room floor. I'll get snockered on fine champagne and once I'm naked, I'll waller in the cash like a pig in slop! Remember, at this point I can afford to be excentric! bbbbwwwwaaaaahhhhhhh!
On a serious note ...
I'm already concerned about my grandchildren's education. From K1 to college, private schools for both of them! That alone would break me! So much for winning the powerball!
If however I invested wisely, I could provide for their schooling, pay off my house, my son's house and my sister's house.
It would be really nice to go to the grocery store and not be overly concerned about what I spend/spent. I haven't really shopped at a mall in quite some time. It would be nice to do that guilt free.

I didn't? Good! I'd hate to know I lied to my friends.

Didn't win a thing this time. My plans for world domination will have to wait till Wendsday,LOL.

I think last time we got $20, of course we have 20 people putting in $5.

I read something somewhere that one should never invest more that 1% or 2% of one's income in the lottery because the chance of winning is so low.

I think that is pretty sound advice. I pretty much give up lunch twice a week to pay for the lottery. :-)

:mental: Your reading sources, use the term invest in place of gambling expenditures? :o
Well, I am going from memory, maybe the source said spend but I think in terms of investment. If you spend $20 a month on the lottery, it is money you could be investing for a sure return somewhere else. But I think it was a book on investing and the author I think was going over what some people consider financial plans. Some people will say "winning the lottery" is their financial plan and I believe the author was writing in terms of risk and reward and why winning the lottery was a poor financial plan. And that there are other things you could do with your money that would have a better chance of yeilding rewards.
It could have been one of the Rich Dad books or it could have been a book I bought on trading options.
There is extra pressure when it is an office pool, though, because you don't want to be the one left out if they win. So there is that to take into account. So really it comes down to how much it bothers you to put $5 on a virtually guarenteed not-a-sure-thing versus how much it will bother you if your co-workers win and you are left behind.
But it is still good to know how someone who has an understanding of money views the lottery. The more information a person has, the more and better choices one can make. If anybody really wants to be rich, the lottery probably isn't the way to do it. Or since there is a chance one could win, it is good to know how much money one should be willing to risk on that chance. Like if someone is going to buy shares of Apple, they should know how much the shares are worth, if they are over-valued or under-valued, what price they should get out of the trade if it is going well or what price they should cut their losses on. Depending on how much a person makes, $5 a week on the lottery could be just right or too much or too little.

I put in a whopping $4/week. Been playing the same number since it started in NC and up till now I've won a total of $40 or $50.
On Wednesday...Lookout $230 million here I come.

Ya man, two chicks at the same time.

No I did not win.

No I did not win.
I've been watching Lost on DVD and I think I'm going to try playing the forbidden numbers on Wednesday, or should I wait until it is big again? I hardly ever know when it is big and it seems like fun now.

Sorry gang the 275 Million went this past Saturday. All of our plans will have to be reset to a much smaller amount of 15 million.

The people that won are from my hometown. There were 7 of them in the sheriff's tax office.
