Tell us what's going on in your part of the world!
I work a half day today, then sell Nutcracker tickets tonight. I'm trying to get my house finished up, decoration wise, because the next 2 weeks are going to be crazy busy and I have 3 different sets of company coming into town to watch Nutcracker this year!
Outside lights are up (but I think I need more...feels a littel bare). Tree is up, but not decorated...there is an issue with the lights that Mr Flame has not remedied yet. The kitties, on the other hand, could care less if there are lights on the tree...they like sleeping under it anyway!
Thinking of throwing some meatballs in the crockpot before I leave for work...
-
Battening down for a small snow storm. S'posed to have 1-3 inches of accumulation by this time tomorrow.
Other than that, I'm just enjoying the fact that I'm back at a steady, paying job.
-
Family picture day, got everyone's outfits together. Some food shopping and for dinner, stomboli.
-
Same ole same ole here. Work. Eat. Sleep. Supposed to get chilly, and maybe a snow flurry. Hopefully I will have energy to start shelling all the pecans I picked up in my yard when I get off work.
-
Work, work, work. Somehow, I worked a full 8 hours yesterday, but I feel like I hardly accomplished anything. I'm hoping today will feel more productive.
I have to leave work early for a follow-up appointment for my ankle. I think the doctor is supposed to do an MRI, and possibly take X-Rays to determine if I'm going to need surgery.
-
Crew week/training, aka "Death by Powerpoint."
Outage now starts Sunday. Still "scheduled" for two weeks, which means maybe, just maybe, we'll be back before X-Mas.

Trying to get a bunch done in order to leave late Friday.
My son is finally moving back home!!! I'm so excited. I knew he was going to, but thought it was going to be after first of year. While he was here for Thanksgiving, we talked, and it's going to be this weekend!! First time in 7 years, he will be home for Christmas. :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:
He's going to move in with us, not sure for how long. Right now, he's going into his room...but we have an apartment over the garage that he may take over. It's currently the other half's office and "man cave" and I'm not changing everything around until I know how long he's staying here or moving in with a friend.
Have been trying to figure out the logistics of all of this. My runnin' buddy is going out to Nebraska with me....I helped her move her son to ETSU back in August...so I she's helping me move mine. Have to really love a friend like that. :-)
We're driving to Nashville Friday night and flying out of there to Omaha early Saturday morning.....saves over $200 each to driv 2.5 hrs. We're then renting a car, driving to Grand Island...help finish what ever he has left to do....then heading back late Sunday or Monday.
My friend's never been to Nebraska....keep trying to explain to her she's never seen any place so flat!! I saw on the weather thing on MSN that it's supposed to be a high of 21 on Saturday!! She's a southern girl....talk about geographical shock. :evillaugh:
I cannot believe how incredibly varied prices are for travelling! I originally was going to rent a car and we drive (16 hours :o ). The cheapest one I could find was going to be $685 and that was to return it back to Omaha!! No gas, no food, no hotel room....nada. Just for the car! :therock: It's turning out with hotel in Nashville, 2 plane tickets, car in Nebraska, gas for cars going and coming back, hotel in Nebraska....$750.
I finally got the plane tickets and the car last night...still have to get hotel rooms....but keep ending up on different sites and finding different prices for the same places. Same place in near Nashville airport has gone from $124 to $59, by going to a different hotel site. Yet on the car rental site...it quoted one price...by the time I filled out all the info, the site requoted it to $10 a day higher. So I went back and switched car companies, and that one stayed the same.
So far, I've spent about 5 hours looking for "deals"....and my friend was doing it too...and I've come to the conclusion that if you're willing to spend the time looking....you can really save money. I started out on Kayak, looked at a bunch of travel sites. Actually ended up booking the plane tickets directly through Delta's website and got the car through Delta's site also....it was the cheapest of all the prices I found and am getting frequent flyer points on both. It's looking like it's also the cheapest for the hotels, and I will get FF points for them too.
These travel sites may not be all they are cracked up to be.....

Rush while getting some work done this morning, then clean 1 of my chicken coops, fix goat pen, workout. After that I'm in full craft mode as this is a pretty busy time of year.

Work. Practice tuba and bass trombone. Church meeting tonight. Clean the house/bird cages. Maybe check email tonight.
Mrs E is gone all frickin' day and evening - again - due to rehearsals.
:banghead:

Nothing earthshattering going on here today. A little bit of housework and some painting. Doctor and health club this afternoon. Gettin ready for the absense of the Spouse Unit here though. She is leaving on an 11 day business trip on Friday. :(

Work, then pick up gift for son's 14th birthday on Sunday . . . where did those years go?? :???:
-
Working from home. Trying to figure out why I get so little heat from my wood stove. :banghead:
Con-call at 1pm CST, then paperwork for travel and opportunities... then con-call at 7:30 CST with a counterpart on the Left coast.
It's friggen Dec. I hate December.

:lmao:Touche!
I mean skip Christmas with the family and extended family. Skipped the extended family (x-mas eve) last year and had a wonderful evening. No real desire to go back. Friggen Christmas.

More brown than red, kind of in the middle. Now, with grey sprinkled in for extra panache.

The best thing about Christmas is when your family lives further than 9 hours away, and, well, you can't take anytime off, because of "work and stuff." Don't get me wrong, I love my family, and I really don't mind Christmas, but together it is a friggin nightmare.

I'm only 2 hours away. :( And Mom, Grandma and aunt get overly sensitive towards me because the divorce was final on 12/23... so it becomes this huge "is Brian okay?" party. :hammer: :hammer:

Geez. Been there done that. Are you sure AZ is far enough???

Less than two weeks til I'm finished with school for good, assuming I don't decide in the future to pursue my engineering license. Then it's a nice break for the holidays before I get to study study study for 10 months.
Lol @ all the birthdays. In one month I have: wife, mom, sister, grandmother, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, brother-in-law, grandmother-in-law, sister-in-law. Fortunately a few of those are packed within a couple days, the families live close by, and we end up just partying hardy to celebrate.

I had to take my daughter to school this morning (I normally do it) but I was afraid last night that I wouldn't be able to see because of the eye thing. My husband couldn't take her because he had to be at work first thing in the morning (had a meeting with his boss). I was able to see but the whole white part of my eye looks like a blister. It is puffy all around the iris and a "blister" sits on the bottom rim of my eye lid creating a bigger bubble. It looks GROSS. Absolutely disgusting. I look like hell.
I have to dilate that eye and last night we couldn't find one pharmacy that had the dilating drops in stock so CVS ordered some. I called my doctor this morning to ask if I really had to dilate my eye and he said I did so I called the pharmacy and they had gotten it in. I had two pumpkin pies in the oven when I went to pick them up and I walked in just as the timer went off. I timed it perfectly.
When I called the doctor this morning to ask about the dilating drops (which sting like hell by the way, I don't remember them stinging before) I asked him about the blister thing on the white of my eye. He said it was the medication he injected and that it would eventually dissipate. Right now my eye is so sore, I don't remember it being so sore when I've had a shot before.
On a good note, I am making a new recipe I found on allrecipes.com for ham and potato soup. It has 5 stars and has been rated over 3000 times. It sounds so YUMMY. I'll post the link incase anyone is interested: LINK (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Delicious-Ham-and-Potato-Soup/Detail.aspx?prop31=2)
Oh yeah I have yet to buy ONE present. Normally I am almost finished with Christmas shopping by now.

Once upon a time....my "real" color was more brown than red too. Now my "real" color is more white than anything.
L'Oreal "Red Penny" is one of my very best friends! :-)
-
Aww, you poor redheads and your gingervitis...
:bolt:
Just joshin', I married a ginger kid!
-
Dang BEG! I hope you feel better soon! That punkin pie sounds yummy....
-
BEG! That recipe looks to die for. I have bookmarked it. Boyfriend just got his holiday ham from work (15 lbs). We cut it up into bits and freeze it. Matter of fact, we just finished last years. This will be one of the first recipes I make with it. Thank you!

I look like hell.

I hate the beginning of December. I turn one year older but it is it is better then the alternative,
Hubby has the tree up and decorated , we have it well tied down as you know cats and shiny things. I dug out the Memorrm. for the mantle and a Buddha wearing a Santa hat,
Xmas party on the 5 Th. our wedding anniversary, I do hope to be able to go even for an hour or so.
This will be a difficult Holliday for us, with me on short turn disability our days of living a wild and fancy life style is over. No more Burger King Splurges 2 times a week, it is now Hot Pockets for supper.
We had a big decision to make this year, do we buy presents for the family or get the 2 dogs and 2 cats their shots brought to date. We chose those that depend on us for their lives and the little fellers are all set until next year.
Kids will all get cards and some kind of unbreakable tree ornament with the year and their name on it.
Mom is special, with the winters so hard for her, all my coupon clipping will be used to fill her pantry to the top with food, and personal care products.,
I will dig about in the back room for the decorations that we no longer use and on the 23 rd. go to the cemetery's and find a way to work them in with the plantings and stone.
Not much fun being a semi-shut in, but, with my books, my fireplace, pets and family I had best enjoy this time, all too soon I will be able to get back to work YIPPPPPPPPE
Funny all these late November to mid January birth days, late Feburary to April must have a special time in our parents lives.-----For those that have cats that span in time is known as Kitten Season.

I'm super cereal. If I weren't so vain I would take a picture and post it. My eye looks really freaky.

I would do the same thing if I had to Vesta. The animals should come first in this instance.

Me too.
Kids are grown....and you are doing for your mom who needs something more than the kids do.
As far as the animals....you have to do whatever you need to for them....they are your babies.

Same here. Spent $100 on me, $400 (and counting) on the critters.
Also called American and got a gift card for myself for when I need to say goodbye to Dad.

Update on the ham and potato recipe I posted earlier in this thread. It was so good. I give I five out of five stars (I served it with a sprinke of cheddar cheese on top). I think the chicken bullion is what put it over the top.

I've come to the conclusion that if you're willing to spend the time looking....you can really save money.
Very true.
All this talk about Nebraska makes me miss my sister & her family. She lives in Kearney. You would recognize some of the names of the restaurants they have a financial interst in. Old Chicago, Whiskey Creek & Country Kitchen.

My son's girlfriend is at UN-Kearney and grew up in Grand Island. She was here with him for Thanksgiving....she's on the track team ... a pole vaulter.....she vaults at about 13-14'.....yet she's barely 5' tall. She must just stick that thing and start flying. She was a competitive gymnast from a small child through high school.
One of the groomsmen when I got married, in another lifetime, has lived in Kearney since the mid 70's....
Small world....

Everything is better with a little cheese on top.
