I see Alabama's the home team, but it's being played in Georgia, which is not in Florida. It's really nice to see a game ostensibly at a "neutral" site actually being played at an authentically neutral site.

Glad to see this game finally being played. It was tiresome seeing both teams being shielded by officials from being upset for the entire second half of the season.

Should be a great game.....I, however...will be arriving in Grand Island Nebraska right about kick-off, to help my youngest move back home after 7 years!!!! :yahoo: :yahoo: :yahoo:

Cincinnati (11-0) at Pittsburgh (9-2) Game of the week?
I think a case can be made that neither Florida, nor Bama will fall below the Bearcats if one loses to the other. (nor, maybe, should they) Winner should get Texas for the championship. However a Cincy loss could send them tumbling despite Pitts high ranking.
Hmmmm

What is the talk up there in Cincy about Kelly to ND? Think it'll be a distraction?

Whoever loses the SEC championship game will certainly fall...but how far? I would slot the "loser" below all the undefeated teams, and I suspect that's what most voters will do.
Isn't it quite odd that there are no teams with 1 loss, but 6 with none and a bunch with 2 losses?

I wouldn't. Below TCU? Yes. Below Boise? Hell no. Either one of the top contenders in the SEC would wax the floor with Boise.

I'm obviously biased, so I won't comment much further. I'm just not that kind of guy to put on the myopic glasses and tell everyone how my school is so much better than others. I just wish this could be settled on the field rather than via the polls.

You might already be aware that these games are all at neutral sites in that they are not at any team's home field.
Florida (12-0) at Alabama (12-0)
Georgia Tech (10-2) at Clemson (8-4)
Nebraska (9-3) at Texas (12-0)
I'll be pulling for UF, but if they don't bring their "A" game then Bama will beat them. GT should beat Clemson. Texas should beat Nebraska.
The Oregon-Oregon State winner will go to the Rose Bowl. The Cinn-Pitt game should be very good.

You may have misread. When Florida or Alabama loses, I'd rank them high, but lower than TCU. I would not, however, bump them lower than Boise State. The reason should be clear:
TCU's schedule:
http://espn.go.com/ncf/teams/schedule?teamId=2628
BSU's cupcake schedule:
http://espn.go.com/ncf/teams/schedule?teamId=68
Florida's schedule:

Alabamastan's schedule:

I hope Alabama beats Florida.... :-)

Well, Nebraska's a 15-point underdog against Texas at Texas this weekend, which sounds reasonable.
But we'll see.
I'm not saying Nebraska is going to, or can, win, but we'll see.

It's true that Nebraska's a 15-point underdog against Texas in Dallas this weekend, but I'm betting they'll give them a game. NU's defense is good.

You know, life in Nebraska was peachy-keen back when Oklahoma dealt with Texas, and Nebraska dealt with Oklahoma--the pre-Big 12 days.
It's really irksome now, having to deal with Texas; that's Oklahoma's job.

Good luck to the Cornhuskers and their former Buckeye head coach.

Good luck to the Cornhuskers and their former Buckeye head coach.
I'm not expecting much, although of course miracles do happen, and have happened.
Texas is expected to run all over Nebraska, and if they do less than that, well, I guess it would show Texas isn't as great as Texas thinks it is. My standard is, if Texas beats Nebraska by less than 45 points, well, I guess Texas is overblown.

Tonight's game--the only one--involves Ohio at Central Michigan.
Ohio of course is directed by the real Frank Solich, a gentleman of impeccable quality and character and class.
Arkansas State 24, Western Kentucky 20, final, last night.
Oregon State 33, Oregon 37, final, last night.

Ohio 10, Central Michigan 20, final.

There goes my 9,000 dollars. Here's hoping I meet the spread on all others. 12-0 pays 900-1. 11-1 pays 100-1. 10-2 pays 3-1.
I took CMU with -13.5. They only beat'em by 10.

Texas with -14.5. That was a tough one due to the spread so I looked at a lot of analysts calls.

Well, if Texas is as good as Texas thinks Texas is, you should be safe.
On the other hand, if Texas isn't as good as Texas thinks Texas is.....
-
BTW, I'd love to see an upset and Nebraska throw a monkey wrench into the entire BCS system. Texas loses, TCU should be in the NC, but they'll probably send Cincy if they stay undefeated, even though I do not believe Cincy is better than TCU.
-
The newspapers up here aren't even talking much about the Nebraska-Texas game today, concentrating instead upon speculating which bowl will invite Nebraska.
It's kind of like the week of the Nebraska-Oklahoma game, where a Nebraska loss was automatically and routinely assumed, and so rather than stories that week about the Nebraska-Oklahoma game, the sportswriters skipped ahead to the following week, writing about how Nebraska could beat Kansas.

You know, one of the most peculiar things I've noticed about football at Pittsburgh is their (usual) lack of depth; I dunno if this is still a problem, but it was a problem back when Dan Marino was their quarterback.
I was young and green in judgement then, and it was their season-ending game, Pittsburgh versus somebody else.
Dan Marino got hurt, and so the second-string quarterback was sent in.
The captioning on the bottom of the television screen pointed out that this second-string quarterback for Pittsburgh, that season, had.....31 seconds' playing experience under his belt.
I gasped, and thought, "What the fu.....dge?"
Pittsburgh had had a really good season, and some real runovers that year.
Now, under the Nebraska system, so as to give depth, players are substituted if Nebraska is comfortably in the lead (or if the first-string player is having a bad day).
There were plenty of times that particular season that Pittsburgh had built up comfortable leads against opponents, and so one could've given the second-string quarterback some playing experience.
But no; Pittsburgh had played Dan Marino all the time that season, other than a measly 31 seconds.
So.....Dan Marino got hurt, and this second-string quarterback, who hadn't had but half a minute of playing time, was sent in. The substitute quarterback ended up doing really lousy, getting sacked, getting passes intercepted, whatnot.
Pittsburgh lost that game; I wish I could remember to whom.

Damn.
No offense to our good friend ReardenSteel, but Cincinnati is just not that good of a team. They remind me of Iowa before the Hawkeyes came crumbling apart against Northwestern & Ohio State.
It was an exciting game, however.
-
How long is "one second remaining"?
Twenty-four business hours?
Rivals needs to get some score-inputters who aren't smoking dope on the job.

Fresno State 53, Illionis 52, final.
Well, that does it.
I'm going to follow the games hereafter on msn.

It's been showing "12:51 third quarter" in the San Jose State-Louisiana Tech scoreboard for about twelve minutes now.
I'll bet the score inputter at Rivals is toking dope.
-
It still doesn't show the Florida-Alabama game as underway yet, and I'm sure that game started some fifteen minutes ago.
-
It's still showing "12:51 left in third quarter" in the San Jose State-Louisiana Tech game; the same "time remaining" it had when I rebooted this computer, which was more than twenty minutes ago.
I'll bet the score puncher-in at Rivals is passed out at his desk.
Geezuz.

Please correct me if I'm wrong about how they do this.
I assume they have a guy in a cubicle in front of a television set watching one game.
And every time the guy sees a score on the television, he punches it into the box-score of the web-site.
Whoever's in charge of watching the San Jose State-Louisiana Tech game is fallen down on the job.
-
The score currently showing up is:
San Jose State 20, Louisiana Tech 45, with 8:51 left in the third quarter.
It's been that way for some minutes now, and no indication if San Jose made the extra point.

I would imagine that's the scenario.
If you follow the "Game-Cast" that many websites offer, they also update every single play. Not just in football in "real-time", but baseball, basketball & hockey as well. You can follow every pitch, shot, etc.

I had switched to msn, but then saw (remembered) that its own scoreboard isn't all nice and compact like that of Rivals, and that I would have to go from window to window and back-and-forth to see the scores.
Rivals has all the day's games on one single page.
So reluctantly I've been back in Rivals.

Does anyone really care about that game? :evillaugh:
10-0 Alabama!
edit - reviewing the Alabama rushing TD
edit again - need to stop automatically giving teams the extra point....Alabama got the TD confirmed, hit the upright on the extra point...
Alabama 9, Florida 0, 1st quarter

ESPN.com has it 48-20 at the end of the 3rd Quarter.
-
Well, finally.
The guy in the cubicle in charge of watching the San Jose State-Louisiana Tech game awoke from his cannibus stupor, or quit petting his girlfriend, and updated.
San Jose State 20, Louisiana Tech 48, third quarter.
-
New Mexico State 0, Boise State 28, second quarter.

Okay, I've been watching the box scores on Rivals ever since the football games started today.
As mentioned earlier, I assume one guy is assigned to watch a particular game, and then to punch in the numbers as they happen.
Not an especially demanding sort of job, watching television and occasionally tapping the keyboard.
All the other guys at Rivals assigned to watch all the other games have been consistent and timely, doing their job as they're supposed to.
The guy watching the San Jose State-Louisiana Tech game however is a glaring exception; I suspect he's smoking dope on the job, or messing around with his girlfriend in the cubicle, and isn't paying attention. It seems to take circa 7-15 minutes for him to punch any keys, and in college football, a great deal can happen in 7-15 minutes.
I hope to God this same guy isn't the one Rivals assigned for the Nebraska-Texas game.
-
The guy woke up from his cannibus stupor, or his girlfriend had to run to the bathroom.
San Jose State 20, Louisiana Tech 55, fourth quarter.

e-mail sent to the management of Rivals.com:
December 5, 2009
Sirs:
On this Saturday afternoon, I brewed a pot of coffee and sat back to relax, watching the college football box-scores on Rivals.com.
Please correct me if I am wrong, but I reasonably assume that your company assigns one individual to watch one particular game, and to punch in the numbers as they happen.
Not a particularly difficult job to do, watching television and occasionally tapping in a couple of numbers on the keyboard.
I was impressed at the speed and timeliness in which numbers were posted in all the games.....excepting one, the San Jose State-Louisiana Tech game.
While all the other individuals watching all the other games appeared to be doing their jobs--and so competently, so quickly--if one was a fan of either hapless San Jose State or the winning Louisiana Tech, one would have been driven to chew on the ceiling in utter vexation and frustration.
I first detected something was wrong when the game started, and the box-score remained blank. For a very long time. Nothing at all. Then suddenly out of nowhere the score 14-14 popped up, and it was already halfway through the first quarter.
And then nothing else for the longest time.
The second time the score was changed, it was suddenly 14-35, and near the end of the second quarter, near half-time.
I'm not exactly sure how much time is usually allotted for half-time, but in this instance, I found myself able to change the cat-litter boxes, wash the dishes, hang out the laundry, vaccuum the carpets, paint the walls in a bedroom, install a new commode in the bathroom, plough the north forty, and change the air in the automobile tires, before the box-score in the San Jose State-Louisiana Tech game revealed that the third quarter had started.
And then nothing for the longest time.
At the same time, all other individuals assigned to post the box-scores of all other games at this same time, industriously and diligently punched in numbers as they hapened.
The "time remaining" of "12:51," fourth quarter, allowed me to assist the neighbor in installing a new transmission on a pick-up truck, and then to erect a new barn. When I returned home, the "time remaining" was.....8:51.
It appears you have someone on the payroll who sleeps, or something else, on your own dime. Does Rivals.com by the way administer drug-detecting tests?
Thank you, and with my good wishes,

Arizona 14, Southern California 14, third quarter.

-
I think it might be safe to say that Boise State will win.
-
New Mexico State 7, Boise State 42, final.
-
I feel kind of like a prophet... :-)
Ready for the UW-UC game to start. Gotta see if the Dawgs can pull one more win this year.
-
Arizona 14, Southern California 17, fourth quarter.
-
Florida 13, Alabama 26, third quarter.
California, Washington, now underway.
-
Arizona 21, Southern California 17, fourth quarter.
And.....uh oh.
It looks like the dope-smoker's in charge of the California-Washington box-score now.
I'd hoped he'd gone home for the night.
-
Arizona 21, Southern California 17, final.
-
California 0, Washington 7, first quarter.
Florida Atlantic, Florida International, now getting underway.
-
I think it might be safe to say that Boise State will win.
But they failed to cover the 48 point spread. :-)
-
California 3, Washington 7, first quarter.
-
Florida 13, Alabama 32, fourth quarter.
Alabama must have missed another extra point.
Maybe Alabama has an unexceptional kicker?
-
California 3, Washington 14, second quarter.
-
Okay, the primitive--it has to be a primitive; it can't be anything else--must be doing the Florida Atlantic-Florida International game.
It was stuck on 14:55 to go in the first quarter for twenty minutes.
And just now right this minute the score came up.
Florida Atlantic 7, Florida International 0, first quarter.
-
Florida 13, Alabama 32, final.
-
Down to four games remaining this evening:
Georgia Tech-Clemson at 7:00 p.m. central time, 6:00 p.m. mountain time
Nebraska-Texas at 7:00 p.m. central time, 6:00 mountain time
South Florida-Connecticut at 7:00 p.m. central time, 6:00 p.m. mountain time
Wisconsin-Hawaii at 10:30 p.m. central time, 9:30 p.m. mountain time
And then there's one more week of regular season college football.
-
California 3, Washington 21, second quarter.
-
Florida 13, Alabama 32, final.
I had a feeling Bama would win. Hard to ever count out the revenge factor.
However, as I noted in another thread a couple of weeks ago, it is a circle. Bama beat Florida who would beat Texas who would beat Bama. So if the BCS Championship game is Bama vs. Texas, then I'll predict Texas will win.
.
-
Florida 13, Alabama 32, final.
Question... how far does Florida fall?
I'm excited to see the Nebraska game. It will be the first I've seen all season and they are having a nice year. Feels good to have an "old school" game that really matters this time of year. Though there are no delusions in my state that Texas is a top notch team and loaded with talent, Nebraska does have something to prove.
I know you like to say that your team has a long way to go (and they do) but a win tonight on national TV could shorten that trip.
Almost kickoff time... go Cornhuskers!!

Okay, the dope-smoking girlfriend-groping primitive's in charge of keeping the box-score of the Florida Atlantic-Florida International game, apparently.
It's taking him forever and a day to change the numbers.....which are probably already long obsolete by the time he posts them.

I wish Nebraska's coach, former Buckeye Mark Pelini, would change clothes after changing his oil, and not wear them to a nationally televised game. He's the most prominent person in Nebraska, after Warren Buffett, but he looks like he gets hand-me-downs from bobbolink's family.

Oh now.
Never judge a man by his clothes.

Nice first half by the Cornhuskers. Like to see a little more "O".
Ohio State is 1-2 verses Texas and this game is following that losing script just a little too close for comfort. In both Buckeye losses the defense played their guts out only to see last second combacks by Vince Young then Colt McCoy. (eech! Fark Texas)
Good game though.

Okay, about the time of my last comment on this thread, the neighbor came over.
Both of us born and raised in Nebraska, and close to land that gives us life, instinctively understood that it was over, that Texas was going to win, even though at the time Nebraska was leading, and there was lots and lots of time left.
So we got into his truck and drove around in the Sandhills--this was shortly after the beginning of the third quarter--looking at the cold sky bright with millions of stars (a natural phenomenon not noticeable in blue cities with much artificial light), as he listened to the game on the radio and relayed the details to me.
We knew, as only those in Nebraska would know.
The only question was, by how bad were we going to lose?
I suppose one can derive some consolation by that it was a one-point loss, Texas winning on a last-second field goal. But that just proved that Texas is not as good as Texas thinks it is, and in fact not nearly as good as franksolich had thought Texas was.

Frank....we were watching the game at the Saddle Club in GI last night. The room was so upbeat and excited....cheering, high fiving....only to realize there was 1 second left.
The room went from being so up....to so quiet. Truly the agony of defeat..
Nebraska was robbed in my opinion. :(

It's happened before.
I'm thinking of that game against Penn State, where the Penn State referee ruled a Penn State player carrying the football "in bounds," when he was in fact way out of bounds; from the early 1980s.
But we clobbered Penn State the following year.

That was a great way to end the season. I hope Locker comes back for one more year.
If not though, that was a pretty good exit.
