Title: Drizzly tuesday
Post by: jtyangel on March 04, 2008, 05:59:09 AM
Well I traded a beautiful day yesterday for a nippy, rainy one today--typical start to spring in the Ohio valley, but this means the trees will be blossoming in no time and the flowers wills start to peek their pretty heads.

I figure it was a good day to workout a little later in the am so I'm taking my youngest to the gym's daycare and going to workout sometime this morning and look out on the rain. At least we had a stellar day at the park yesterday.

Here is a pic of my boy having a great time... :-)

Other then that my break semester is nearing an end. Once the kids return from their spring break at the end of the month it will be the start of two hell semesters with me--about 16 credits each.  :thatsright: But I will have the 2 year degree instead of the transfer credits and will be starting the next leg of the education...woohoo.

TOTD: What is the most drastic action that you've taken this year to improve your health?

I've gone all out...working out about 90 minutes, 6 days a week--eating habits have totally changed--not a diet, I just eat very different and I've also decided this is the year to get the whole slew of medical workups and be sure nothing is going on or improve the things that are and God-willing I have not let anything go beyond repair and nothing serious is stirring.

Very bizarre weather today--25 degrees at the house, 50 by the time I got to work (hopefully some of that will hit my place and melt the snow off the roof).  However, freezing rain/ice by tonight into tomorrow morning.

TOTD: 45 minutes 4 times a week and I need to do more.

70 deg Sunday & Monday here.  Heavy rain last night and a chance of snow tonight  :banghead:.

TOTD:  drastic action to improve my health ususally involves surgical orthopedic repair.  Not in my plans this year, and hope it stays that way.

Is it really Tuesday???  Man.  It's been a long few days!!

Mr Flame was sick, and it seems like I had appointments, etc out the ying yang.   I want to just chill!!

Good news, though!  If you recall my rant a month or so back, I was complaining about schools/testing ,etc.  Well, they did some additional testing for my youngest, and he showed what I've been trying to tell them all along.  He scored at a 99.9% (national averages) in math and at a 97% in reading/language, and at 98% in general knowledge (science, social studies, etc).  He's now eligible for the gifted program at school, which, while not perfect (only a couple days a week for an hour or so), it's better than nothing, and they are considering advancing him in math next year.

Also, did my good deed yesterday...we went for a walk yesterday evening with all the kids and the dogs, and there was a cute little Westie running around loose...no one knew where it belonged.  We spent 45 minutes walking through the neighborhood with the little doggie, asking people we saw if they knew who she belonged to, and finally found her owners.    On a side note, I hate people that let their dogs run loose.  Her owner said, when we found her "OH, you  found her...she ran away from me, and I told my neighbers to keep an eye out for her",  but she wasn't out looking!!  She was younger, too, in her 20's.  But sheesh....if the dog runs away, at least get in the car and drive around and look for her!!

TOTD:  I've never done anything really drastic...not my style. :-)

Lovely spring day here. I am 'working' from home.  Which was going really well until I  finished my one urgent project then it tailed off a bit.

TOTD: I have added a couple of miles of walking to my usual journey to work because I don't have a schedule which allows for regular exercise.

I dunno what sort of day it's to be in the Sandhills of Nebraska.

Right now, it's in the upper 20s, and partly cloudy.

Some forecasts say "rain and snow (but not much)" the next few days; other forecasts say "sunny and warm."

Someone's going to be right, and I wish I knew which one, because I'd like to start taking down the winter windows here.

Well, I just took the lab practical.  I'm not happy with how I did.  :(

I have a WHOLE lot of work to do today.   Have to type up one more paragraph, then heavily edit the entire essay for my Political History class.   Then, study for the regular Bio test on Thursday.

TOTD:  I haven't done anything radical this year (except for altering my diet so my body can keep up with all the physical work I do at my job).
In the past, I've undergone jaw surgery to do away with an overbite that could have had BAD consequences for my teeth.   It was radical in that

bone  had to be cut, and metal plates, screws, and a chin implant were put in.   There are more gruesome details, but I'll be nice and not post them at all.

Flame - congrats on your son's testing. I know that situation was worrisome.

TOTD: I got sick last year with a chronic illness so completely changed my eating habits and started taking supplements.

Finishing a quilt today and doing laundry.  The pool guy is suppose to come by and install a salt system and fix a leak we have somewhere around the pump.  He still isn't here, he better show up!  It snowed yesterday, the snow is still on the ground but I suspect it will only last a couple more hours.  Last week I think it even got up to the 80's and this week is snowed, that is Texas weather for ya.

TOTD: Nothing

When I got braces in my 30's my ortho suggested I have the jaw surgery too.  I couldn't get insurance to pay for it, I tried 3 times so I didn't have it done.  I have always been self-conscious of my chin (or lack there of).  Mainly my profile, I don't mind it so much from the front.  I spoke with a plastic surgeon the other day about getting a chin implant.  I think I just might do it.  How different do you feel you look after having your chin implant?

Yeah, insurance typically won't pay for it, even if it's considered medical (like in my case).   Members of my family decided to help me (I was only 20 years old).

I never really noticed my lack of chin (at that age, I was more worried about my teeth than my chin).  The oral surgeon did, and suggested that a titanium implant be put there.   I definitely do feel different, a LOT more confident, and my jaws have a more angular look.  As for the chin implant, there are some minor issues.  For one thing, that area is still a bit...numb, which is what the surgeon said might happen.  I touch it, and I feel some pressure, but not as much as the other areas on my face.

And now, I have an $80,000 set of jaws.   :o   I strive to take care of my teeth, and continue to wear a retainer to keep the teeth straight maybe once a week.

Yea Tuesday!  It's nice and sunny outside too.

I surprisingly don't really have much work to do today.  I think I'll finish reading my book this afternoon here.  :)

There are three of us that rotate to relive the receptionist for lunch.  The rumor is that one of the women is trying to say she has "seniority" and shouldn't have to do it.   :whatever:  Tomorrow's her day, so we'll see what happens.  Seniority my ass, we don't do that here.  Like for instance if they were going to cut back, they do it on positions not on seniority.  And seriously, she does the least amount of work.  Basically she doesn't want to do it, because she actually takes a lunch "hour" (more like an hour and a half, but she writes in her time) while the me and the other always bring our lunches.  She's just bitching and I don't think it'll get her out of it.  Seriously, it's like 6 hours a month watching the front desk.   :whatever:

So, I'm possibly on board for some drama tomorrow at work.  Woo hoo.

TOTD:  I'm trying to quit smoking.  I've always eaten pretty good, but I could cut back on some things.

Good luck, Mia. Smoking seems to be one of the hardest vices to quit.

I quickly learned that she's the one woman in the office that's ready to stab everyone in the back and the drama queen to boot.  In general I think she's upset because the two newest additions to the office, myself and the payables woman, don't go to lunch or gossip with her.  I don't tell her anything I don't want everyone to know about.  And frankly, I cannot afford to go out to eat at a restaurant every day at work.  We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Also, jty, didn't you recommend The Other Boleyn Girl?  I picked it up the other day, along with Murdered by Mumia.  I finished the Mumia book today, so I'll start on Boleyn Girl tonight or tomorrow.  :)

Some stupid punk at work got himself fired for sexual harassment.  I hope they put that down as the reason they fired him.  Good luck getting unemployment or a new job, fat boy. :evillaugh:

Yeah when I went to the oral surgeon he said that I would look like a model if I had it done.   :whatever:  It made me feel like, what the hell do I look like now...yugly?  The plastic surgeon I went to use to be an oral surgeon and he said he could see that I would benefit from oral surgery too but that for me to have it now would be pretty traumatic and a ton of money.  The chin implant he feels would make me feel better about my profile at a reasonable cost ($3k-$4k).  I guess reasonable is relative but at least my husband didn't crap when I told him how much.  I should tell him it is a hell of a lot better than the $80k it cost you.   :p  This plastic surgeon said he would go under the chin instead of the inside of the mouth as the implant stays put better that way.  I don't know if that is true or not.

Getting braces was the best thing I've ever done for myself (well that and an endometrial ablation  :-) ).  I have to wear my retainer just about every night because my teeth shift really quickly.  If I don't wear it for a couple of nights it is really tight.  I also have a night guard that I wear because I grind my teeth.  I alternate the night guard and retainer every other night.  If I just wear the night guard my teeth will move.  I'm probably overly picky with regard to this.   :-)

Well, the 80 k was for the surgery and everything that was done with the jaws, not just the implant and plates/screws.   Alone, the chin implant being titanium, was $5K.   I had a medical condition (an overbite).  I wasn't doing it for merely cosmetic reasons (not insulting you in anyway, just trying to clarify the reasons for my surgery's cost).

Yeah I know.  I had a consultation with an oral surgeon about it approximately 7 years ago.  They were going to bring my lower jaw forward (I can't remember exactly how many millimeters), move my upper jaw back a tad and shave a little off the upper jaw to move it up a little.  Oh and also do a small implant.  It wasn't even half of the 80k you had to pay so I'm kind of curious what all they did to you.

Actually I have an overbite as well (still do, even though my teeth are straight now).  There was no way the braces could fix the overbite and that was why the ortho sent me to the oral surgeon.

Edited to add:  I'm vain but I'm not vain enough to spend the kind of money it would have cost to have jaw surgery.  Just wanted to make that point clear.... ;)

My surgery took place about 4 years ago, when I was 20.

I need to ask my mom to find the records we kept from the surgery.  I'll give her a call later.

All I remember is that they went in, broke my jaw, brought the lower jaw forward, and moved the upper back a little, to get it all evened out.   Some bone was removed, but I do not recall how much.

I think the cost was somewhat related  to the fact that my surgeon was one of the better ones in the  area.  He worked with my orthodontist on a lot of patients, so he was who we turned to when my orthodontist said jaw surgery was needed.

Thing is, this  condition was something that was predicted by my childhood orthodontist.  But of course,  nothing could be done when I was a kid.  They had to wait for me to stop growing first.

I just thought of a theme song for this thread.  Sorry it came so late in the day:

Just another drizzly Tuesday
(ah ah)
At least it's not Doomsday
(ah ah)
An "I don't have to choose" day
(ah ah}
Just another drizzly Tuesday

I hope that's right.  I haven't heard a Bangles song in ages.

I think you should start day threads. That brought a tear to my eye.  :-*
