“For us to say that you’ve got to take a responsibility to get health insurance is absolutely not a tax increase,” Mr. Obama said. “What it’s saying is that we’re not going to have other people carrying your burdens for anymore.”

This is wrong. People that can't afford health insurance aren't being irresponsible! Sheesh. How is this not a huge gift to the insurance industry? Millions of Americans that are barely making ends meet have to contribute to the already obscene profits of these companies? The same companies that drop coverage because someone didn't report they once had acne???

As he did during a speech to a joint session of Congress this month, the president spoke favorably of a public insurance option to inject competition into health care, but he did not say it was an essential part of a bill. He urged “folks in my own party” to move beyond that debate and focus on the broader aspects of the health care overhaul.

“Everybody’s gonna have to give some in order to get something done,” Mr. Obama said, speaking on NBC’s “Meet the Press.” He added, “We’ve got to get past some of these ideological arguments to actually make something happen.”

It use to be people that were only for single-payer were ideologues; now it is those who insist on the public option. Oh, and are the 3 out of 4 physicians that want a public option, are they ideologues too?? :eyes: x( I voted for change. Not this.

providing subsidies, tax breaks and other financial assistance, if someone decides not to get insurance and "run for luck", people should not have to bear that person's burdens if he gets hit by a bus. I agree with him.

I have a crazy idea you could charge the individual for whatever care is required.

Sort of like in the way you could understand what he's saying, but prefer to be purposefully obstuse.

I thought you all were pro choice. Guess that only applies to abortion everything else should be dictated by Obama  :whatever:

Please explain why the circumstances of conception should result in killing the baby.

You know, that used to be my thinking also.  Somewhere along the line it sank into my thick skull, that regardless of the manner it was created, it is still an innocent unborn life. Now, I'm more of the opinion that it should only happen to protect the mothers life.

I see your point, but at the same time I can't see asking someone to raise the child of a rapist. I think this is just where we'll agree to disagree.

It's not that simple.  It comes down to the fact you think it is ok to murder an innocent baby if the baby's father was a rapist or a family member of the mother.  Thundley does not think it is ok to murder a baby for any reason.  That's a little heavier than "agree to disagree".

You are willing to overlook murder.  Let's call it what it is.

The only time I'm pro-choice is when the mothers own life is in the balance.  Yet there are women, usually married ones that have been willing to risk their own life for the chance to let their child survive.

The cases of a mother's life being in danger due to pregnancy has always been governed by the host/guest rule.  It has never been debated by civilized people.  The host comes first.  Sometimes the host (the mother) will choose to risk (sometimes sacrifice) her life for her guest (unborn child).  That is truly a decision between a mother, her doctor, and her God. 

By the way, I am a firm believer in the idea that all recreational abortions should result in two deaths.  That would indeed make the practice of killing inconvenient babies "safe and rare".

So, if the kid is 10 years old, is it still "a choice between the woman and her doctor?"  No?


What makes it OK to kill the kid at 10 weeks, but not at 10 years?  To the kid, it's the same thing, he or she is dead either way.

I am pro-life until the natural end of life. The only deaths I support are those of murderers and child molesters. I am also iffy on whether I want the state or jury to do it.

Not to toot my own horn but I happen to be one of them.  I know most of you know my story by now but I was told to abort my last child by two of my doctors.  I have Takayasu's Arteritis and had recently had stents placed in three arteries (subclavian, carotid and vertebral) when I got pregnant.  They had no data on my disease and pregnancy because my disease is so rare and we are told after we are diagnosed NOT to get pregnant.  My doctor was afraid I would have another stroke and probably die.   I was also on methotrexate when I got pregnant which is a drug that causes spina bifida and miscarriage.  My doctor used that as another reason to abort.  I refused.
