And I stopped for a second.....and then flew into a rage. I wanted to stomp the shit out of the owner of the van.
I usually reserve that urge for the most horrid of humans, like child molesters and rapists.
I think my own reaction to the fear engendered by a constant barrage of hate towards the Prez specifically and liberalism in general has something to do with it.
Or maybe there really HAS been a change in this country, maybe we really ARE drawing lines.
Maybe it's just me.
I could give a shit about someone calling ME names, personally. I've been called lots worse and laughed.
But the idea that wanting justice and a level playing field for all of us somehow gets translated into a fear word
like communism.....to stir more hatred and fear is like an assault on the things I hold onto about the greater ideals we hold (but rarely attain.
Fighting words. When did Communist become a fighting word??? It's a charge used by the ignorant. The ignorant who seem spoiling for a fight.
My grandfather, a Liberal democrat and Union organizer from the coal mines of West Virginia would have waited for that individual in the parking lot.
I left and just came home, shaking.
I'd like to say I'm more civilized and genteel than Pappy, but I'm thinking that would mean I've lost something -
A fierce loyalty, maybe, or the refusal to let my values be demonized.
Or maybe I know I'm just getting old, and can't pack that freight anymore.

27. I know the feeling........
A beat-up van slammed over in front of me a few weeks ago. Mind that there had been signs for 3 miles that traffic going to Highway X needed to be in the right-hand lane. I had to slam on my brakes to avoid hitting the van. I checked my rear view mirror (defensive driving course) to see how the traffic behind me was reacting to my braking so I could swerve to the right if needed to avoid a collision.
As I picked up speed again I noticed all this hateful crap on the van. "God Bless Dick Cheney". "Waterboarding - keeping America safe". "Obama - a big black mistake America" and something else.
I flew into a rage. I got alongside him and just stared at him. I think he knew he had set me off. He looked like he hadn't showered in a month, hair all askew (at least he has some) with a bluetooth shoved in his ear.
I took a few deep breaths and went on my way.
The deep divisions in this country are scary enough I think it may be time to seek refuge abroad.

29. My anecdote about "Communists"
I have a travel anecdote that relates to the fear the right-wingers have of Communists coming to take away their guns. Back in January, I was on a driving vacation and stopped on a Saturday night in a small town as it had gotten dark and was starting to snow. In the morning, there was about 4 inches of freshly fallen snow, the clouds had gone and the sun was shining. Perfect weather to get out the guns and see what kinds of animals were out making tracks in the snow. A lot of other people had that thought, and as I continued with my travels, I saw car after car of hunters getting their guns out, preparing to go hunting at their favorite spot. It was clear that guns and hunting were a part of the culture there, enjoyed by vast numbers of people. I must have seen several hundred hunters out that day as I continued south to where the snow had changed over to rain and there weren't any.
Where was this hunter's paradise where every adult male seemed to have a gun? Dzhankoy, in the former Soviet Union.
Communism fell in the former soviet union dipshit.

When people want to 'stomp the shit out of someone' for what's printed on the back of their vehicle. See DUmmies may have short memories, but some of us can relate and apply history, even if it did not directly affect us. What we know is commies liked to kick the shit(in a lot of ways) out of their dissenters. Commies also 'leveled the playing field' to the point everyone except the most elite were miserable and even the elite still were controlled by their government. When you throw about terms and exemplify attitudes of a reprehensible system like communism, don't be surprised if someone is going to call you exactly what you are.
And your grandfather is what is wrong with unionism. Perhaps you are smart enough to reflect on it, but I doubt it. He sounded like a confrontational thug and feeds into the stereotype of union members in general. Good job, you can't seek to change stereotypes by feeding into them constantly(and that goes for many of the pet groups on the left).

The really sad thing is, accodrding to the DUmmy poll, those "people" are older than most of us (50s and 60s), and should KNOW better. They shouldn't be relying on history books to be teaching this stuff, they should be pulling it from their own memory banks. That's the scarey part.

The last time I saw a car like that was some turd brown POS Toyota, driven by a skanky lesbian-looking female (at least, it LOOKED female, kinda, maybe, a little), plastered ALL OVER with HUNDREDS of leftist stickers like "Save the Whales, Visualize World Peace, Respect Your Mother (with the obligatory pic of the Earth), and I'm Too Intelligent To Vote Republican".
Seemed to me the stickers were either: 1) Holding the POS car together, or 2) covering rust holes and paint blemishes....

This was some POS Toyota Corolla or something like that, like I said, turd brown was the best description for the color. This happened back in about 1998 or 1999, and the car was probably a late 70's/early 80's model....
Heck, the stickers were probably worth more than the car.... :rotf:

I pulled up along side the Freeper with the intentions of flipping him off, telling him he was Number 1! Then I saw he was wearing a shoulder holster with a .40 cal Sig Sauer under his arm pit! I pissed all over my self and got the hell out of there! Boy THAT was a close one!
