At an 11:00 a.m. press conference today, Governor Sarah Palin announced that she would not seek a second term as governor. The governor continued saying in a few weeks she would resign the governorship.
On a day that most public employees have off, Palin sent out an early morning press release indicating that she would be giving an
announcement from her home in Wasilla. Joining Palin were her parents, family and state commissioners.
Palin did not field questions and would not give any indications as to her future plans.

I suspect its to make room for a bigger run in the near future.
-
I hope so. I hope there isn't some nasty scandal brewing.

I hope so. I hope there isn't some nasty scandal brewing.
Its unlikely - if there was one, we would have known about it a millisecond or two after it reared up.
-
True dat.
-
The office 'bat will say something about how she's unpopular, but I'll point out that Palin's polling damn near a 65% approval rating at the moment.
-
I suspect its to make room for a bigger run in the near future.
I hope you're right. I don't know if we can make it through a second term of Carter Jr., never mind his first one.
-
At this point I suspect she will resign for family reasons, and this will buy her many months to get her ducks in a row for a future run. Because of the acidic hatred the left has for her, she is going to need to remake the image they painted of her, a power-hungry, vapid dimwit. The only negative is that stepping down now may cause a bad reaction - that she can't go the distance.

Oh, the message boards are already making up scandals. I'm sure there are massive bonfires already at DU, Kos, and Huffpo.

oh yeah -- DU is in full frenzy mode..... With the bonfires they are lighting, they are risking burning down the whole island

I find it somewhat amusing - who other than Sarah can make a Friday afternoon announcement that knocks both M. Jackson and The Fourth of July off the radar ? -- The primitives are not amused.

Sarah Palin has announced that she will resign as governor of Alaska and will not seek a second term.
CBS Affiliate KTVA reports that at a press conference this morning Palin said she will resign the governorship within a few weeks.
CBSNews.com producer Scott Conroy, who covered Palin's vice presidential campaign last year, confirmed through a source close to the governor said she is leaving office.

CBS has released more details. I'm updating the thread title because of this.

The Daily Kos is all over it. Their comments seem to be par for the course for that site.

I heard on The Hannity Show from substitute host Mark Simone, that she might have a business offer.
-
I think this is an awful move on her part. The left has been trying to portray her as a ditz, then she goes and acts all ditsy like this. Now it's impossible to argue that she'd stay the course if elected to high office again..
I'm done with her.

She is going to have hundreds of offers now. Thats a guarantee.

I can almost see why she has done this. The barking moonbats just keep flinging their poop at her in the form of ethics charges, and whispering rumors. Meanwhile the GOP does little to defend her, and in some cases pile on with their own mud slinging. There was little she could do other than ignore everything. By resigning, she frees herself up to go on the offensive, and I hope she does.
She'll be on a book tour before and after the book is published, and she will be free to speak her mind. Palin was best during the campaign when they turned her loose. The way the GOP has been lately, I almost believe that she could be a viable 3rd party conservative candidate. :)

The Democrats have buried her under half a million dollars in legal fees. I guess if you can't discredit someone politically, destroy them personally, or get away with denigrating their family, the next step in the liberal playbook is to bankrupt them. I don't think she could have afforded to finish her term as governor unless it was as a pauper.

There are people in the GOP who are just as bad as the Dems. They are enablers and enablers are bad as well.

Im taking a 'wait and see' attitude on this. The pounding from the left has been relentless. By leaving the Governorship, she is no longer under the thumb of Democrats who have used every legal means available to them to hamstring her and her agenda. All this no longer applies.
It does open her to criticism as unable to take the heat, and it is risky. It depends what she does once she has officially left the office. If she goes into hiding, she is in trouble. If she comes out swinging in ways she couldn't as Governor, then she may be a force to be reckoned with.

From her website:
Palin Announces No Second Term
Hi Alaska, I appreciate speaking directly TO you, the people I serve, as your Governor.
People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska. Serving her people is the greatest honor I could imagine.
I want Alaskans to grasp what can be in store for our state. We were purchased as a territory because a member of President Abe Lincoln's cabinet, William Seward, providentially saw in this great land, vast riches, beauty, strategic placement on the globe, and opportunity. He boldly looked "North to the Future". But he endured such ridicule and mocking for his vision for Alaska, remember the adversaries scoffed, calling this "Seward's Folly". Seward withstood such disdain as he chose the uncomfortable, unconventional, but RIGHT path to secure Alaska, so Alaska could help secure the United States.
People who know me know that besides faith and family, nothing's more important to me than our beloved Alaska.
Alaska’s mission – to contribute to America. We’re strategic IN the world as the air crossroads OF the world, as a gatekeeper of the continent. Bold visionaries knew this - Alaska would be part of America's great destiny.
Our destiny to be reached by responsibly developing our natural resources. This land, blessed with clean air, water, wildlife, minerals, AND oil and gas. It's energy! God gave us energy.
So to serve the state is a humbling responsibility, because I know in my soul that Alaska is of such import, for America’s security, in our very volatile world. And you know me by now, I promised even four years ago to show MY independence… no more conventional “politics as usualâ€.
And we are doing well! My administration's accomplishments speak for themselves. We work tirelessly for Alaskans.
We aggressively and responsibly develop our resources because they were created to be used to better our world... to HELP people... and we protect the environment and Alaskans (the resource owners) foremost with our policies.
Here’s some of the things we’ve done:
We created a petroleum integrity office to oversee safe development. We held the line FOR Alaskans on Point Thomson – and finally for the first time in decades – they’re drilling for oil and gas.
We have AGIA, the gasline project – a massive bi-partisan victory (the vote was 58 to 1!) – also succeeding as intended - protecting Alaskans as our clean natural gas will flow to energize us, and America, through a competitive, pro-private sector project. This is the largest private sector energy project, ever. THIS is energy independence.
And ACES – another bipartisan effort – is working as intended and industry is publicly acknowledging its success. Our new oil and gas “clear and equitable formula†is so Alaskans will no longer be taken advantage of. ACES incentivizes NEW exploration and development and JOBS that were previously not going to happen with a monopolized North Slope oil basin.
We cleaned up previously accepted unethical actions; we ushered in bi-partisan Ethics Reform.
We also slowed the rate of government growth, we worked with the Legislature to save billions of dollars for the future, and I made no lobbyist friends with my hundreds of millions of dollars in budget vetoes... but living beyond our means today is irresponsible for tomorrow.
We took government out of the dairy business and put it back into private-sector hands – where it should be.
We provided unprecedented support for education initiatives, and with the right leadership, finally filled long-vacant public safety positions. We built a sub-Cabinet on Climate Change and took heat from Outside special interests for our biologically-sound wildlife management for abundance.
We broke ground on the new prison.
And we made common sense conservative choices to eliminate personal luxuries like the jet, the chef, the junkets... the entourage.
And the Lt. Governor and I said "no" to our pay raises. So much success in this first term – and with this success I am proud to take credit... for hiring the right people! Our goal was to achieve a gasline project, more fair oil and gas valuation, and ethics reform in four years. We did it in two. It’s because of the people… good public servants surrounding the Governor's office, with servants' hearts and astounding work ethic... THEY are Alaska's success!
We are doing well! I wish you'd hear MORE from the media of your state's progress and how we tackle Outside interests - daily - SPECIAL interests that would stymie our state. Even those debt-ridden stimulus dollars that would force the heavy hand of federal government into our communities with an “all-knowing attitude†– I have taken the slings and arrows with that unpopular move to veto because I know being right is better than being popular. Some of those dollars would harm Alaska and harm America – I resisted those dollars because of the obscene national debt we’re forcing our children to pay, because of today’s Big Government spending; it’s immoral and doesn’t even make economic sense!
Another accomplishment – our Law Department protected states’ rights – TWO huge U.S. Supreme Court reversals came down against that liberal Ninth Circuit, deciding in OUR state’s favor over the last two weeks. We’re protectors of our Constitution – federalists protect states’ rights as mandated in 10th amendment.
But you don’t hear much of the good stuff in the press anymore, do you?
Some say things changed for me on August 29th last year – the day John McCain tapped me to be his running-mate – I say others changed.
Let me speak to that for a minute.
Political operatives descended on Alaska last August, digging for dirt. The ethics law I championed became their weapon of choice. Over the past nine months I've been accused of all sorts of frivolous ethics violations – such as holding a fish in a photograph, wearing a jacket with a logo on it, and answering reporters’ questions.
Every one – all 15 of the ethics complaints have been dismissed. We’ve won! But it hasn't been cheap - the State has wasted THOUSANDS of hours of YOUR time and shelled out some two million of YOUR dollars to respond to “opposition research†– that’s money NOT going to fund teachers or troopers – or safer roads. And this political absurdity, the “politics of personal destruction†… Todd and I are looking at more than half a million dollars in legal bills in order to set the record straight. And what about the people who offer up these silly accusations? It doesn’t cost them a dime so they’re not going to stop draining public resources – spending other peoples’ money in their game.
It’s pretty insane – my staff and I spend most of our day dealing with THIS instead of progressing our state now. I know I promised no more “politics as usual,†but THIS isn’t what anyone had in mind for ALASKA.
If I have learned one thing: LIFE is about choices!
And one chooses how to react to circumstances. You can choose to engage in things that tear down, or build up. I choose to work very hard on a path for fruitfulness and productivity. I choose NOT to tear down and waste precious time; but to build UP this state and our country, and her industrious, generous, patriotic, free people!
Life is too short to compromise time and resources... it may be tempting and more comfortable to just keep your head down, plod along, and appease those who demand: "Sit down and shut up", but that's the worthless, easy path; that's a quitter's way out. And a problem in our country today is apathy. It would be apathetic to just hunker down and “go with the flowâ€.
Nah, only dead fish "go with the flow".
No. Productive, fulfilled people determine where to put their efforts, choosing to wisely utilize precious time... to BUILD UP.
And there is such a need to BUILD up and FIGHT for our state and our country. I choose to FIGHT for it! And I'll work hard for others who still believe in free enterprise and smaller government; strong national security for our country and support for our troops; energy independence; and for those who will protect freedom and equality and LIFE... I'll work for and campaign for those PROUD to be American, and those who are INSPIRED by our ideals and won't deride them.
I WILL support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the RIGHT reasons, and I don't care what party they're in or no party at all. Inside Alaska – or Outside Alaska.
But I won’t do it from the Governor’s desk.
I've never believed that I, nor anyone else, needs a title to do this - to make a difference... to HELP people. So I choose, for my State and my family, more "freedom" to progress, all the way around... so that Alaska may progress... I will not seek re-election as Governor.
And so as I thought about this announcement that I wouldn’t run for re-election and what it means for Alaska, I thought about how much fun some governors have as lame ducks… travel around the state, to the Lower 48 (maybe), overseas on international trade – as so many politicians do. And then I thought – that’s what’s wrong – many just accept that lame duck status, hit the road, draw the paycheck, and “milk itâ€. I’m not putting Alaska through that – I promised efficiencies and effectiveness! ? That’s not how I am wired. I am not wired to operate under the same old “politics as usual.†I promised that four years ago – and I meant it.
It’s not what is best for Alaska.
I am determined to take the right path for Alaska even though it is unconventional and not so comfortable.
With this announcement that I am not seeking re-election… I’ve determined it’s best to transfer the authority of governor to Lieutenant Governor Parnell; and I am willing to do so, so that this administration – with its positive agenda, its accomplishments, and its successful road to an incredible future – can continue without interruption and with great administrative and legislative success.
My choice is to take a stand and effect change – not hit our heads against the wall and watch valuable state time and money, millions of your dollars, go down the drain in this new environment. Rather, we know we can effect positive change outside government at this moment in time, on another scale, and actually make a difference for our priorities – and so we will, for Alaskans and for Americans.
Let me go back to a comfortable analogy for me – sports… basketball. I use it because you’re naïve if you don’t see the national full-court press picking away right now: A good point guard drives through a full court press, protecting the ball, keeping her eye on the basket… and she knows exactly when to pass the ball so that the team can WIN. And I’m doing that – keeping our eye on the ball that represents sound priorities – smaller government, energy independence, national security, freedom! And I know when it’s time to pass the ball – for victory.
I have given my reasons candidly and truthfully… and my last day won’t be for another few weeks so the transition will be very smooth. In fact, we will look to swear Sean in – in Fairbanks at the conclusion of our Governor’s picnics.
I do not want to disappoint anyone with my decision; all I can ask is that you TRUST me with this decision – but it’s no more “politics as usualâ€.
Some Alaskans don’t mind wasting public dollars and state time. I do. I cannot stand here as your Governor and allow millions upon millions of our dollars go to waste just so I can hold the title of Governor. And my children won’t allow it either. ? Some will question the timing. ? Let’s just say, this decision has been in the works for awhile…
In fact, this decision comes after much consideration, and finally polling the most important people in my life - my children (where the count was unanimous... well, in response to asking: "Want me to make a positive difference and fight for ALL our children's future from OUTSIDE the Governor's office?" It was four "yes's" and one "hell yeah!" The "hell yeah" sealed it - and someday I'll talk about the details of that... I think much of it had to do with the kids seeing their baby brother Trig mocked by some pretty mean-spirited adults recently.) Um, by the way, sure wish folks could ever, ever understand that we ALL could learn so much from someone like Trig - I know he needs me, but I need him even more... what a child can offer to set priorities RIGHT – that time is precious... the world needs more "Trigs", not fewer.
My decision was also fortified during this most recent trip to Kosovo and Landstuhl, to visit our wounded soldiers overseas, those who sacrifice themselves in war for OUR freedom and security… we can ALL learn from our selfless Troops… they’re bold, they don’t give up, they take a stand and know that LIFE is short so they choose to NOT waste time. They choose to be productive and to serve something greater than SELF... and to build up their families, their states, our country. These Troops and their important missions – those are truly the worthy causes in this world and should be the public priority with time and resources and NOT this local / superficial wasteful political bloodsport.
May we ALL learn from them!
*((Gotta put First Things First))*
First things first: as Governor, I love my job and I love Alaska. It hurts to make this choice but I am doing what’s best for Alaska. I’ve explained why… though I think of the saying on my parents’ refrigerator that says “Don’t explain: your friends don’t need it and your enemies won’t believe you anyway.â€
But I have given my reasons… no more “politics as usual†and I am taking my fight for what’s right – for Alaska – in a new direction.
Now, despite this, I don’t want any Alaskan dissuaded from entering politics after seeing this REAL “climate change†that began in August… no, we NEED hardworking, average Americans fighting for what’s right! And I will support you because we need YOU and YOU can effect change, and I can too on the outside.
We need those who will respect our Constitution where government’s supposed to serve from the BOTTOM UP, not move toward this TOP DOWN big government take-over… but rather, will be protectors of individual rights - who also have enough common sense to acknowledge when conditions have drastically changed and are willing to call an audible and pass the ball when it’s time so the team can win! And that is what I’m doing!
Remember Alaska… America is now, more than ever, looking North to the Future. It'll be good. So God bless you, and from me and my family - to ALL Alaska - you have my heart.
And we will be in the capable hands of our Lieutenant Governor, Sean Parnell. And Lieutenant General Craig Campbell will assume the role of Lieutenant Governor. And it is my promise to you that I will always be standing by, ready to assist. We have a good, positive agenda for Alaska.
In the words of General MacArthur said, “We are not retreating. We are advancing in another direction.â€

Apparently all of the law suits have been costing the people of Alaska a LOT of money. This is one of the reasons I believe in the "loser pays" system. That would stop a lot of ridiculous law suits.

Senate run against Begich.
I'm thinking Senate too. I would love to see her as Prez or VP, but she's a lightning rod for every volt of Leftist sexist hyposcrisy there is, and probably would would be so abused by the MSM that it would tube her candidacy for either of the two executive posts.
-
As a primitive speculated, she may be angling for the head of the RNC... An interesting consideration, for sure...
-

We are thinkin the same thing....
-
I really wouldn't mind if she now became a senator or the head of the RNC - I mean, geeze, look at Steele and Martinez - she's a BIG improvement over that.
And this could sound like she's open to the idea of going third party:
. . . "I WILL support others who seek to serve, in or out of office, for the RIGHT reasons, and I don't care what party they're in or no party at all. Inside Alaska – or Outside Alaska". . .
Now that would harm the GOP for an election or two, but the Whigs had the same thing happen to them. I want Obama to be a one-termer, but that's a cross purpose. :( I just hope Andrea Mitchell is lying again.
-

I have heard that she might be considering the Senate in 2010.

I choose to be inspired ...Go Sarah :naughty:
-
Go Sarah!!! I think she's not done. Not by a long shot. Good for her.
-
I think this is an awful move on her part. The left has been trying to portray her as a ditz, then she goes and acts all ditsy like this. Now it's impossible to argue that she'd stay the course if elected to high office again..
I'm done with her.
I tend to agree with you here. If she chooses to run for another office, this will undoubtedly be thrown back in her face. She couldn't even complete one term as governor before she cracked under the pressure. That's the kind of things I imagine opponents will say.
This does sour me to her a little bit. It strikes me as a bit flighty.
If she is leaving politics for good as one of the rumors out there is stating, I think that's one of the best things she has done. Her family has taken a lot of undeserved abuse by the media and haters.
Overall, I still have a high respect for her and wish her the best...I voted for her after all and that dickhead who ran with her.
-

I don't think she would have done this without good reason. She's not a stupid woman. She has legal bills a mile high, and staying in office would have only invited more frivolous abuse from people like Linda Kellen Biegel and her backers in the Democratic Party and the Alaska legislature. The state will not reimburse her for her legal expenses; staying in the governor's office would have been a losing proposition.
I'm not happy about the change, but I don't think its the end of Sarah Palin.
-
At this point I suspect she will resign for family reasons, and this will buy her many months to get her ducks in a row for a future run. Because of the acidic hatred the left has for her, she is going to need to remake the image they painted of her, a power-hungry, vapid dimwit. The only negative is that stepping down now may cause a bad reaction - that she can't go the distance.
Bingo, miskie. She has had six months to mull over making some kind of move. She seized the opportunity to rake Letterman over the coals just a couple weeks ago (and did famously).
She has learned that the spin doctors have to create the best possible image of her. They can't do that very well while she's governor. It's best for her to step down and marshal her forces for the future run.
As to whatever kind of reaction she might get for stepping down, I think that'll blow over in the remake of her image.
Run Sarah, Run!

Last week before MJ died and all the news became about him....there was some talk about a book that just came out regarding McCain's run for president. .....I don't know who the author is.....anyhow....they were talking about how the loss was blamed on Palin.
The way everything gets blamed on that woman...I'm surprised the rumor mongers and Democrats have not heaped 9/11 on her too!!
If she runs for Senate....for 2010....she would have a term in and run for Pres....isn't that what Obama did and got elected!!
My opinion of her hasn't changed (I like her)....I'm sad for her and the people of Alaska that she felt she had to resign....but with a fortune in legal bills staring her in the face....and having to constantly defend herself against all the personal attacks...she is correct in that she is probably not getting much accomplished as governor.
It's rather pathetic that some people have nothing else to do than attack that woman for one reason or another!
-

I'd take a good look at the "author". Probably a David Brooks/Colin Powell-type liberal Obama-loving RINO.
McCain was on life support until September 1, 2008.

Palin is the new Bush only she's actually conservative. I really do think it is a case of her putting the citizens of Alaska over her own personal ambitions. How much work can be done with the Palin-haters filing ethic complaint after ethic complaint.
I don't know what her future is, I hope it is as Madam President, but like she said, people don't need an office in order to be effective.
-
I have heard that she might be considering the Senate in 2010.
Murkowski is a lot more popular than Palin in Alaska, she'd lose the primary if she ran as a republican.

you sure about that? during her last election (the first since her father, the newly-elected governor, appointed her to fill what had been his senate seat) she damn near lost. since then, I haven't heard anything about her, positive or negative.

WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Sen. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, today made the following statement after Gov. Sarah Palin’s announcement that she plans to step down as governor later this month.
“I am deeply disappointed that the Governor has decided to abandon the State and her constituents before her term has concluded.â€
Sen. Murkowski is in interior Alaska and communicating via satellite phone and is unavailable for follow up questions. She will be available on Monday afternoon.
-
well, then, I stand corrected.
Disappointing that Murkowski would break the 11th commandment. Guess she holds a grudge for dad.
-
Murkowski is a lot more popular than Palin in Alaska, she'd lose the primary if she ran as a republican.
Hardly. Murkowski barely won her seat, and there are a lot of people who still resent "daddy" installing her there.
-
Book tour, speaking tour, GOP fundraising, assist GOP in midcycle elections, take over as RNC chair.
Smart lady.
-
Whatever she decides to do, she has nothing but the utmost respect and support of many people. This is a whole lot more than I can say for many politicians. Character counts, she is a classy lady. Godspeed Sarah.

Uh oh! Watch out, DU!
To the extent several websites, most notably liberal Alaska blogger Shannyn Moore, are now claiming as “fact” that Governor Palin resigned because she is “under federal investigation” for embezzlement or other criminal wrongdoing, we will be exploring legal options this week to address such defamation. This is to provide notice to Ms. Moore, and those who re-publish the defamation, such as Huffington Post, MSNBC, the New York Times and The Washington Post, that the Palins will not allow them to propagate defamatory material without answering to this in a court of law. The Alaska Constitution protects the right of free speech, while simultaneously holding those “responsible for the abuse of that right.” Alaska Constitution Art. More news, this time from the FBI.
Sarah Palin not under FBI investigation, agency spokesman says
A day after Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin resigned, a federal official in her home state dismissed one potential explanation for her sudden and unexpected resignation: a rumored FBI investigation into the former Wasilla mayor on public corruption charges.
Despite rumors of a looming controversy after the Republican governor's surprise announcement Friday that she would leave office this month, some of them published in the blogosphere, the FBI's Alaska spokesman said the bureau had no investigation into Palin for her activities as governor, as mayor or in any other capacity.
"There is absolutely no truth to those rumors that we're investigating her or getting ready to indict her," Special Agent Eric Gonzalez said in a phone interview Saturday. "It's just not true." He added that there was "no wiggle room" in his comments for any kind of inquiry.

Poor DUmmies... they just don't make tin foil like they used to.

Murkowski at 76% and Palin at 55%
Wow! Palin holding at 55% is rather impressive in my opinion. Especially when taking into account that almost the entire national media and entertainment industry has been tearing her down constantly since she was announced as the VP candidate. I have to wonder how much lower that Murkowski's numbers would be among Alaskans if she had faced the same months of constant wide-spread attacks.

It sure puts Obama's approval ratings in perspective too. :uhsure:
-
Mia--look at Palin's approval ratings BEFORE she was tapped for VP, as opposed to now.
You think some of that might have something to do with the constant attacks? Remember, the Anchorage paper is another left-wing hack job who hasn't missed an opportunity to take a pot shot or a thousand at her, either.

Let's all be honest, the attacks are not attacks on her policies, but on her family and herself. Imagine if Obama were subject to the same disassembling by the media.... imagine if his policies were questioned.

IIRC, it was Evan Thomas who said that media bias was giving Kerry at least a 15-point edge in 2004, even with the few critical stories about him.
How much of an advantage do you think the media gives Zerobama with their fawning and personal attacks on his critics/opponents? And face it, everyone--there are still those (sadly, a majority) who DON'T look or think beyond what the MSM tells them; i.e., well, if Katie Couric says Palin is dangerous, it **MUST** be true!

What is truly scary is that so many people saw clips of Tina Fey doing her Palin bit and believed that it was Palin. That was almost as damaging as the mud slinging was.

Oh, that brings up a good point! Anyone catch Saturday Night Live, last night?

The most important info in Palin's explanation, thanks to Thor (http://www.conservativecave.com/index.php/topic,30564.0/msg,321664.html)
Half a million in personal expenses, two million in Alaska's tax money, and the liberal haters are still filing bogus ethics complaints that cost them nothing while wasting precious resources during a recession.

Exactly!!!!! I'm kind of glad she is resigning. The muzzle that's required while holding public office is going to be off. Go ahead, come after Sarah the private citizen and see what happens libtards.

You go Sarah!

Lets not forget that her rating was at a whopping 85 percent before McCain picked her. McCain did her no favors, especially by not supporting her against those on his own staff who went out of their way to attack her.
When McCain's own staff went after her, she should have pulled out and left him hanging.
While I respect McCain's service, I HAVE ABSOLUTELY ZERO RESPECT FOR HIM.

The beauty of the whole thing is that now that she is a private citizen again, when the liber-turd media defames her, she can sue them for defamation.

Except it hasn't costs the state $2 million, it's cost $296,000. Link (http://www.adn.com/news/alaska/story/850854.html)

The point remains that state money was wasted on unfounded , untrue , politically motivated allegations. If only elected officials had some recourse to reclaim personal money that is spent in defending these allegations.
-
Here is where I am confused.
Liberals are pitching a fit over this. The poo flinging at Sarah Palin has increased since she annonced her plans to leave. Wouldn't the liberals be HAPPY about this? From what I have seen on the news, they still hate the woman ( for what, I have no idea) and being their usual nasty selves.
Can you blame the woman for wanting to leave?

The article seems to read as 300K to outside sources. It doesn't include wasted state employee wages.

Oh, good grief... (http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2009/07/new-frivolous-ethics-complaint-filed.html)
New Frivolous Ethics Complaint Filed Against Governor Palin
By Tim Lindell
Anti-Palin blogger Geoffrey Dunn at the Huffington Post:
In the wake of Governor Palin stepping down from her job, new allegations have surfaced today in Alaska charging Palin with additional violations of the Alaska Executive Ethics Act.
Zane Henning -- a conservative If he's conservative, then I'm Elvis. government watchdog from the governor's hometown of Wasilla and an oilfield worker on Alaska's North Slope -- asserts in a letter to Alaska Attorney General Daniel S. Sullivan that Palin has "been charging and pocketing per diem to live in her home and has used the process for a personal gain since being elected."
Please note that, true to form, Henning published his frivolous complaint in a press release, violating the confidentiality provisions of the Executive Ethics Act.
We have previously debunked the bogus per diem claims here (http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2009/02/no-surprise-wapo-distorts-per-diem-tax.html) and here (http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2009/02/expenses-palin-v-murkowski.html).
UPDATE: For those who may have forgotten, Henning was the same guy who filed an ethics complaint against the Governor for doing an interview in her office. It was tossed out (http://www.conservatives4palin.com/2009/05/two-more-ethics-complaints-dismissed.html), of course.

Ethics complaints against Gov. Sarah Palin and top members of her administration have cost the state personnel board...
So, one agency has been forced to spend $296,000...and that's the total for the state? Sure. ::)
I'll admit that this is a wild guess, but I'd bet that the governor has a better handle on ALL state expenses than the liberal news media that hates her. Palin has been caught in a lot fewer lies than the media.

Palin's office details complaint costs
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — Sarah Palin's office has released a nearly $2 million cost breakdown detailing what the resigning Alaska governor says the state has paid tackling ethics complaints against her.
The spreadsheet compiled by the governor's office totals more than $1.9 million reportedly spent by various state agencies to handle the complaints as well as public records requests.
Palin, who steps down July 26, has racked up more than $500,000 in personal legal debts on top of that.
According to the cost breakdown, expenditures by the state Department of Law added up to more than $850,000.
