"President Obama's White House was forced to issue an apology Monday after a photo opportunity gone badly wrong — an Air Force 747 plane did a low flyover over Lower Manhattan, prompting terrified citizens to flee from their offices and high-profile accusations of government insensitivity in the post 9/11 era.
White House Military Office Director Louis Caldera issued a brief statement saying he was too blame.
"Last week, I approved a mission over New York. I take responsibility for that decision," he said. "While federal authorities took the proper steps to notify state and local authorities in New York and New Jersey, its clear that the mission created confusion and disruption. Someone made a great point in the New York Post comments section. To the Democrats, 9/11 wasn't a big deal. After all, America asked for it because she is an evil Jesus-loving capitalist country.
So if it's not that big of a deal to them, of course they wouldn't even consider the feelings of others surrounding that time. They assume since Obammy won, everyone must agree with them now.

You know, I've never photoshopped much - mostly cropping - but I bet that I could whip up a picture of Air Force One with the Statue of Liberty within an hour and do it without burning an ounce of jet fuel or scaring the crap out of a million people. Flight bringing troops home stirs fear over NYC

NEW YORK (CNN) -- The FAA said it would no longer allow overflights of Manhattan after a charter jet carrying troops home from the war with Iraq flew low over the skyline Wednesday, stirring fears that another terror attack was under way.
"The FAA regrets any negative effect this flight had on some New York City residents. The FAA has since issued an order that future, similar requests will not be granted," the Federal Aviation Administration said in a statement late Wednesday.
Continental Airlines Flight 3021, bringing military personnel back from Operation Iraqi Freedom, buzzed the skyline around 8:30 a.m., flying near the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan, where the twin towers of the World Trade Center were destroyed in the September 11, 2001, terror attacks.
The FAA said the pilots of the plane had requested the fly-by and it was approved "to provide a special homecoming for members of our armed forces." It said such requests had been approved in the past for troops coming to and from the Afghanistan war theater.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg blasted the FAA for allowing the flight.
"Considering the world we live in and New York City's recent history, one would expect a little more concern, sensitivity and notice from the FAA when they authorize a plane to fly at that altitude over lower Manhattan," he said in a statement.

Marc Mugnos was reprimanded for not apprising the mayor, and a disciplinary letter was placed in his file, a spokesman said. Mr. Mugnos couldn't be reached for comment.

I remember an unauthroized fly over by an air force pilot and his uncle (an IL state senator) in a private plane close by over a small IL town.
Calls to 911 jammed the lines, kids just getting off school busses were running inside....
The plane was very low & loud...and it appeared to be following the smaller private craft..

It was AF1 when it took off because he was still prez. During the flight when Ford was sworn in, the pilot got notice from ATC that the call sign for the plane would now be Boeing 27000 (or whatever it was) and no longer AF1.
