Title: Obama flashes irritation in press room
Post by: TheSarge on January 23, 2009, 04:39:58 PM
(http://www.drudgereport.com/ops.jpg)

President Barack Obama made a surprise visit to the White House press corps Thursday night, but got agitated when he was faced with a substantive question.

Asked how he could reconcile a strict ban on lobbyists in his administration with a deputy defense secretary nominee who lobbied for Raytheon, Obama interrupted with a knowing smile on his face.

"Ahh, see," he said, "I came down here to visit. See this is what happens. I can't end up visiting with you guys and shaking hands if I'm going to get grilled every time I come down here."

Pressed further by the Politico reporter about his Pentagon nominee, William J. Lynn III, Obama turned more serious, putting his hand on the reporter's shoulder and staring him in the eye.

"Alright, come on" he said, with obvious irritation in his voice. "We will be having a press conference at which time you can feel free to [ask] questions. Right now, I just wanted to say hello and introduce myself to you guys - that's all I was trying to do."

The president was quickly saved by a cameraman in the room who called out: “I’d like to say it one more time: ‘Mr. President.’ ”

Obama spent about 10 minutes total, winding his way through a crush of reporters and photographers between the upper and lower floors of the journalists' workspace and asking questions about who worked where and how the booths and desks were assigned.

How DARE you ask The ONE a question!  What are you?  A reporter?  Yeah?  You are?  Well there will be NO asking of ANYTHING unless it is deemed TIME to ask.  And only then will you be able to ask questions that are sanctioned by The ONE.

Remember when they will grill Bush and he would laugh and joke with them when he didn't want to answer or didn't have an answer?  What a difference in style and class.  Difference as in, The ONE doesn't have any.  This is only going to get better as time goes on.

Only you can bet that reporter won't be back, or may not even have a job after that interchange.   :whatever:

Once again his lack of experience with how things operate on a national scale and how he is supposed to act as POTUS.

He honestly thought he...as President could just stroll down to the press room and smoke and joke with the reporters like they were his drinking buddies.

and the MSM gave him a free pass during the primaries and the general election campaigns.  he isn't used to a member of the MSM insisting on a clear answer to a substantive question.

So far he has done nothing but try to keep his public exposure scripted and phony.
No doubt he thought that he would rub elbows with them and get them all to report only what he wants, how he wants.

Showing himself to be a vacant, hoodlum style politician.
Wait.....he is from Chicago after all.

I was taught in "management 101" that shoulders were off limits.  if you just HAVE to be a touchy-feely person, the elbows were the only place that you can touch without getting into trouble.

touching a shoulder COULD be just a gesture of camaraderie, but it could also be intentioned to intimidate.

You bet, POTUSBO intended to intimidate that reporter. For him to put his hand on a stranger's shoulder and look him in the eyes as he did is way out of line--but especially in a setting like he and the reporter found themselves.

You know that, possibly, worse is coming, too, from Obama This guy's ALWAYS been way way way too calm and collected.

Recall this, back June 2008: Acciording to Roll Call:

"In a move that could further imperil his already weakened status in the Democratic Caucus and fuel talk about his split loyalties, Sen. Joe Lieberman (ID-Conn.) Wednesday [June 3 or 4, 2008] took center stage in the GOP’s mounting attacks on the presumptive Democratic presidential nominee, Sen. Barack Obama (Ill.).

"Lieberman participated in a media conference call Wednesday morning organized by House Minority Chief Deputy Whip Eric Cantor (R-Va.) criticizing Obama’s stance on the Middle East.

"Lieberman’s criticisms came in response to Obama’s speech before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee, which was his first major address after claiming his party’s nomination late Tuesday night.

"Furthermore, during a Senate vote Wednesday, Obama dragged Lieberman by the hand to a far corner of the Senate chamber and engaged in what appeared to reporters in the gallery as an intense, three-minute conversation.

"While it was unclear what the two were discussing, the body language suggested that Obama was trying to convince Lieberman of something and his stance appeared slightly intimidating.

"Using forceful, but not angry, hand gestures, Obama literally backed up Lieberman against the wall, leaned in very close at times, and appeared to be trying to dominate the conversation, as the two talked over each other in a few instances
."

POTUSBO's a megalomaniac who cannot and will not tolerate anyone not playing by his rules, whatever they may be, or challenging him. And now he's got taxpayer guards to protect him while he behaves so? Please.

Looking forward to Obama refusing to answer questions and storming out of news conferences, as he did during the primaries.

LBJ did this kind of leaning in, too, but I think LBJ could pull it off. The country has changed, and people don't like domineering politicians. Even the left will push back against this sort of thing.

Obviously, Obama has a thin skin, just like Clinton before him. He expects everyone to like him, and he is frustrated if they do not. The bad news is that people will manipulate him, using his tendencies against him. Among others, Putin will play him like a violin. And the country will lose.  :(

Remember we're talking about people who think CNN is right wing and that NPR is "center leaning right".

LBJ had a style of intimidation that was all his own.

He'd call in a select few people into the restroom, and while he was actually taking a dump, he'd continue discussing the matter at hand. The whole idea was to illustrate his own roughness and his own lack of tact, just to make a political point.

Dear Leader would rather physically intimidate by using other methods.

Somehow, LBJ comes off as being more human. At least you KNEW where the stink was coming from. With Obama, it's not so obvious.

We've already seen it. What he did, were he in an office setting, might be construed to be an act of aggression, leading to zings on performance rating and counseling for anger management. Even dismissal, in some cases.

He's a pressure vessel that's experiencing levels of heat he's never seen. And if enough heat is applied, his rivets and welds and plates will pop, more and perhaps very explosively.

It's only a matter of time, a short amount of time.
