Well now, quite obviously a General Strike is something the primitives expect other people to do, for quite obvious reasons. Few primitives are employed, and so can't strike.

Has anyone called for a General Strike?
A day of general striking, across all industries? This is a union method, and I want to know if anyone in this country is willing to lead such a thing. Is this not what they do in France? Shut the country down for a day?
For Pete's sake, we have to start taking to the streets, folks. The 'they' they are coming for is all of US.
It's a big bonfire, as usual all talk and no action.
It starts out with a spat about "Agent Mike," and then things get back on track.

2. I believe that sympathy strikes (which is what this really is) are against the provisions of the lovely Taft-Hartley bill.

19. That law needs to be repealed and publically burned.

29. Burning it publicly should be the first thing we do during the general strike.
How many of us can they arrest? Someone has to do the cleaning and cooking and filing and HVAC maintenance for the upper classes?

4. What I'd like to see.
All the non-union workers at the foreign auto plants in the south go on strike in support of the UAW and demanding unionization.

5. (They are waiting for us in the streets)
Minimalism - buy only what is absolutely necessary and keep doing that for a few weeks (or even months)... and watch the machinery of greed come to a grinding halt. Nothing gets the attention of the greedy like not getting their hands on your money.
"Minimalism" is what franksolich does, and lives.
No primitive would put up with it; it demands too much.

23. It's called working class SOLDIARITY, my wacko libertarian friend.
Something your mind would never understand.
One wonders what that was all about.

6. We'd need jobs to strike.
I'm going to go laugh bitterly to myself at the idea though, if you don't mind.

7. Well, perhaps General Strike isn't the name it should go by
Just a general (small g) day of NO WORK in this country. I am for taking it to the streets, folks. We are pretty close to having not much to lose. I really don't feel like we can hang on until the 20th.
I agree with the poster on minimalism, to a point, but then I am just punishing folks who sell me food, clothing, necessities.
In other words, just another normal routine day in the life of the primitives.

30. Nope. It has be called a STRIKE, not a consumer mentality "opt out" day.
There is solidarity in a strike. There is no solidarity in "buy nothing day" or "opt of out work day".
In reality, even if one day was taken off of work the capitalists will treat it as if it were an unexpected holiday. The power of a strike lay in the reality that no one knows when it will end.
For the past decade, demonstrations have only demonstrated our weakness. It's time to do things for real and put pressure on the ruling class. Of course, a political will is necessary and that isn't there yet.

22. It's time for a General Strike
This has to come to a head; this is about as good a time as any.
Harry Reid has failed; he needs to resign. Now.
Now, that's a novel idea; primitives usually aren't this imaginative.
A strike to force the Democrat leader in the U.S. Senate to resign.

35. Let's do this thing. Pick a date, any date.
Doesn't matter if one is employed or not.
Just grab your pitchfork and join the picket line in solidarity.
God I wish this would happen. I am SO THERE. We need another 'million man/woman march' to show those privileged corporatists called senators who has the POWER (and it ain't them).

43. It's hard to pull off a general strike when only about half of the population is on your side
I believe this country is divided just about evenly on support of the UAW and unions in general, as it is on many things.

I really don't feel like we can hang on until the 20th.
Wait long enough and one of them eventually spills the truth. Let's see how many calls for a "general strike" happen after Il Duce takes office. I'm betting it'll be just as many as their were threads about Gov. Blagojevich being a scumbag prior to the latest revelation -- this is to say, none.

Brilliant Idea! I'm sure those Toyota, Honda, BMW and Nissan workers would just love to be in the same situation as the guys at the big 3.
Guess what Bozo? A lower paying job beats the crap out of NO job.
-
Screw the UAW. The UAW is exactly what is wrong with unions. If I never purchase another car made by the UAW, I'll be content.
-
Can anyone point out where a unionized company is working well?
Not the auto industry.
Not the public education sector.
Not government.
I truly can't think of any sector that has been unionized that has not failed and sent those jobs overseas or been replaced with automation. Maybe mining but Obama is going to bankrupt the coal industry.

I think the underlying theme is that one doesn't have to be employed to pick up a Molotov cocktail to loot and riot.

Meh. Posting from work. Home still without power. We might be out a week. Parts of Derry and some other towns (Washington) might be out for double that.
Got two 5-gallon gas cans in the back to fill up on the way home. Other than that, can't complain.

We bugged out to my inlaws before noon on Friday. They didn't have power, either, but got it about 2 PM Friday. Power at my complex came back at 6 PM on Saturday, but we didn't go back until yesterday morning. I managed to bring all of the venison from those two 10-pointers with me, so I saved all of that. We're none the worse for wear, but I'm looking to get a Coleman stove this week. Also thinking about a kerosene heater, even though they're banned in the complex. I've got a feeling that we're gonna see another one of these storms soon.

I recall a few in college always blathering about 'the Revolution' and trying to whip up 'the People' for strikes. Ironically, they were all kids of prominent lawyers and old money.

Many of them are.
You'd be surprised how many primitives are trust fund kids.
You might think yeah, you already know many of them are.....but really, many more of them are, than most suspect.

The power came back on here about 9:30 last night.
I was doing fine....found an old oven rack and made a stand of small pieces of wood in the outdoor furnace last night and had venison cheeseburgers.
It is nice to not hear the generator outside droning on though.
All things considerd I think National Grid did a great job considering the extent of the outage but I suppose that is easy for me to say as I didn`t have that much difficulty.
