VP candidate calls herself "frugal," insists she did not accept wardrobe from RNC and "that is not who we are"
ORMOND BEACH, Fla. -- Sarah Palin insisted in an interview on Thursday that she did not accept $150,000 worth of designer clothes from the Republican Party and said the media spotlight on the story is evidence of bias against women candidates.
"I think Hillary Clinton was held to a different standard in her primary race," Palin said in an interview with the Chicago Tribune posted on the newspaper's Web site Thursday night. "Do you remember the conversations that took place about her, say superficial things that they don't talk about with men, her wardrobe and her hairstyles, all of that? That's a bit of that double standard."
Palin, who is John McCain's vice presidential running mate, said the clothes were not worth $150,000 and were bought for the Republican National Convention.
Most of the clothes have never left the campaign plane and "that is not who we are," she told the newspaper.
"It's kind of painful to be criticized for something when all the facts are not out there and are not reported," Palin said.
"That whole thing is just, bad!" she said. "Oh, if people only knew how frugal we are."
News of the purchases of designer clothes, largely from upscale Saks Fifth Avenue and Neiman Marcus, contrasts with the image Palin has crafted as a typical "hockey mom."
McCain was asked several questions on Thursday about the shopping spree -- and he answered each one more or less the same way: Palin needed clothes and they'll be donated to charity.
"She needed clothes at the time. They'll be donated at end of this campaign. They'll be donated to charity," McCain told reporters on his campaign bus between Florida rallies.

Standard MO fo rthe Democrat Party.
It's to disctact...in any way they can...from the fact their candidate is not only an empty suit...but someone that most of the voting public in America would want to sit in the sme room with if they REALLY knew what his policies and beliefs are.
So they throw something shiny out there to distract the public.

I know......I know, just was venting.
How bout a story about Aryes, Wright, Fellator, Frank, Dodd, Pelosi, Foley's replacement, dumbass poo flingers.

Why didn't the MSM make a big deal of ME-shell Obama's $447 afternoon snack....or Poor-Lucy's big flower bill in the House of Reps.....Huh?
Can you say "Bias", kids?

WhyTF is this thing about clothes even a story :banghead:
They wanna tear her down in some way. If Palin wears a sweater she bought at Wal-Mart for 15 bucks, they'll accuse her of dressing "white trash" or "dumpy"... if Palin goes and buys a Chanel dress from Saks, they can accuse her of the opposite.
-
Sarah Palin's shoes have undergone more MSM scrutiny than The BarackStar!'s fairy tale of a tax policy, or his past associations with people that are well out of the mainstream (to say the least), or his lack of ANY relevant experience for the office to which he aspires, or the fact that he has yet to leave an imprint on any endeavor that he has ever undertaken, or his relationship with a group of "community organizers" that are being investigated for, and have plead guilty to, voter fraud, and . . . . well, and any aspect of the media phenomenon called "barack obama".
-
They should sell the clothes on eBay and donate the proceeds to charity. I myself wouldn't mind owning something that has caressed the soft, sensual skin of Sarah.
Er, uh... I mean... uh...
Crap.

The New York Post retracted (http://www.nypost.com/seven/10212008/gossip/pagesix/room_disservice_134490.htm) the story about Michelle Obama's snack
The source who told us last week about Michelle Obama getting lobster and caviar delivered to her room at the Waldorf-Astoria must have been under the influence of a mind-altering drug. She was not even staying at the Waldorf. We regret the mistake, and our former source is going to regret it, too. Bread and water would be too good for such disinformation.

I remember them talking about Edwards' $400 hair cut. Also the difference I would think is that Hillary paid for her own clothes with her own money, the DNC or the Hillary campaign didn't pay for them. That's why it became a story, because it was the RNC paying for the clothes.
I also think this whole clothes story is a bit ridiculous. No one's changing their vote over this.
-
If CBS and the NYT devoted as much attention to Obama's tax plan and background as they did to her shoes and clothes, he'd be down by 20% and sinking fast.
-
I don't care how much her wardrobe costs; she looks killer in it. If every dollar that I sent the RNC and the McCain campaign this year went for nothing but her shoes, I'm good with that, too. :-)

I suspect this will make me a racist in Obamaworld, but doesn't anyone find this story just a little sexist ?
Everybody is obsessed with what she is wearing, and how much it cost. They did the same thing to Hillary, when she was accused of showing a bit too much cleavage. And the pantsuits.
Never a peep about what any of the male candidates are dressed in, or what the pricetag is.
Honestly though.. Why is this even news ?

Because every other issue they have tried to nail her on has been either a lie or has blown up in their damn fool faces.

they are going after her with everything that they have . . . get a load of this:
Palin stylist draws higher pay than policy adviser
WASHINGTON (AP) — An acclaimed celebrity makeup artist for Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin collected more money from John McCain's campaign than his foreign policy adviser. Amy Strozzi, who works on the reality show "So You Think You Can Dance" and has been Palin's traveling stylist, was paid $22,800, according to campaign finance reports for the first two weeks in October. In contrast, McCain's foreign policy adviser, Randy Scheunemann, was paid $12,500, the report showed.

How is clothing not a legitimate campaign expense?
-
They way they are going after her on this one would think it was because she wasn't wearing clothes someplace.
-
I would bet that if they auctioned the clothes after election, they would bring more than $150K.
-
The only inquiry of Palin's wardrobe that even merits our attention is: thongs or boy-shorts?
:naughty:

a certain part of the wardrobe would be bought by MSB for about that...

This info came of course from the required expenditures declarations required by law. But, did you know BARRY's campaign spent substantially more than TWENTY MILLION DOLLARS on polling! That's madness, and not a single comment on that from the MSM?

the MSM won't even really report on the $800K that the obama campaign paid ACORN for who-knows-what-because-the-story-keeps-changing.

the same reason that john edwards getting a 400$ or however much it cost haircut was news.

:whatever:
Thank you Mr. Contrarian.
John Edwards $400 freaking haircut never led off the nightly news. In fact if it wasn't for political websites...I'd would have NEVER known about it at all.
So to say they are the same damn thing is just crap on your part.
-
TRG beat me to it - The Silky Pony's haircut was more of an internet and Natl Enquirer tale. Palin's wardrobe is getting treated as above-the-fold headline news.

Britt Hume will discuss pretty much anything that is circulating on the internet during his show, its SOP. - And a story showing up on any of the cable news outlets is not the same as print media or any of the networks who still broadcast over the air.

Not a selective memory you idiot apologist troll.
Where was it on NBC CBS CNN was it above the fold in the NY Slimes or USA Today?
Was Keith OVerbite and Tweety Matthews falling all over themselves to report it?
Go ask some stranger on the street which they've heard more about...Palin's alleged 150K wardrobe or Edwards' $400 haircut.
After you spend the majority of your time explaining to this person what the HELL you're talking about with Edwards...get abck to me.
-
Well, anything that Sarah wears is more interesting and important than what Obama says. I find him very boring. Sarah in a dress is never boring.
Of course, Obama changes what he says more often than Sarah changes her clothes. Maybe five times a day for him vs 3 times a day for her.
As far as the Media attention..... There are two things the media dosn t want you to know about. Sarah Palins message being the more important, and Obamas message coming in a close second.

$50K for clothes for her and her family to borrow. They have to change clothes how many times per day? The RNC paid for the clothes, not the McCain campaign as was the case for pretty boy Edwards and Hillary Clinton, which is of course the difference here.
What is being lost here is that Sarah and her family clearly needed appropriate clothes to wear, unlike Obama and Biden whose closets are already stocked with designer suits.
Twist and shout people. Throw some chum in the water and watch the leftists circle the boat hungry for more.
Pathetic really.

What he said.
If Palin had been Governor of Alaska for 35 years or was worth millions of dollars thanks to Chicago political connections, she might have as many pantsuits as Hillary, but I doubt it.

I thought this was interesting, from that article:
Much of the embellishment—beadwork and feathers are other hallmarks of her work—is done in India.
But, but, but...I thought the Obamasiah's were for keeping jobs in America. What's this about Bitchelle supporting/buying dresses from a designer who is known for outsourcing her work to India?
I'm shocked. SHOCKED I tell ya'.
::)

CLICKY (http://www.examiner.com/a-1659190~Michelle_Obama_shops_at_J__Crew__buys_online.html)
Hearing of the Palin wardrobe malfunction of sorts, Michelle dresses down to J Crew and insists that's what she wears to Jay Leno, pff... you can buy this stuff online even!
Oh my... how quick we exchange the $5k dresses for $50 blouses :thatsright: That's just pathetic
I'm glad someone else has noticed how quickly Michelle has switched from designer duds to off the rack at JCrew and White House/Black Market (which has some nice things - I have a few).
One important thing that has been overlooked in all of this.....is that while $150k was INITIALLY spent....a lot of it went back.
Someone or someones went shopping for the Palin family....WITHOUT any of the Palins along on the shopping trip.
Those someones went in and grabbed all kinds of outfits and the accessories...shoes, earrings, etc. for each family member.
In order to take the items out of the stores...THEY HAD TO BE PAID FOR!!! Imagine that :thatsright:
Once the Palins tried on the clothes.....thousands upon thousands of dollars of clothes were RETURNED!!! I read somewhere that more than $75k was returned immediately after the family tried on the clothes.
I worked for Talbot's years ago when I was first divorced, and many many women will buy clothes, take them home, try them on.....and then return what doesn't fit or look good on. I, myself....detest trying on clothes and rarely will do it at the store....even swimsuits. There are several brands that I can buy and I just get my size and know they will fit....such as the jeans I get at Walmart or Sams.
As long as the tags are on, the item hasn't been worn, have the receipt, and the return is within the store's time limit (it's on the receipt)...I don't know of any store that won't take the return and credit the amount back to the credit card or return the cash. It's easier to return if purchase was on a credit/debit card or cash. Most stores are "funny" about returns on a check.
