RALEIGH, N.C. — Two weeks after a devastating revelation sent her husband into political exile, Elizabeth Edwards isn't getting the steady sympathy usually afforded to a woman scorned.
Instead, she's faced criticism from dedicated Democrats who think she was too willing to keep the affair a secret to help John Edwards' political ambitions, as well as her own.
At a time when she was expected to hold a prominent role in pushing an agenda of improved health care for Americans, she stands silent. While fellow Democrats converge in Denver to nominate Barack Obama for president, Edwards remains in seclusion in North Carolina.
It seems an odd way to treat a woman with incurable cancer wronged by a cheating husband, the latest in a series of deep hardships in life that includes the death of a teenage son.
But some former followers have questioned the recklessness of keeping the affair under wraps even though her husband — a former U.S. senator, two-time presidential candidate and the 2004 vice presidential nominee — said he confessed the affair in 2006, before the campaign began in earnest the next year.
"I think she's complicit," said Brad Crone, a Raleigh-based Democratic consultant. "Obviously, she knew. While she's the victim, she clearly didn't stand in the way of the cover-up."

My, the Dems are all heart.
What hypocracy. Back when Bill couldn't keep his pants zipped, the Dems admired Hillary and felt sorry for her. Like she didn't know he was porking anything with a hole.

As a wife, I would have talked long and hard to my husband about doing something underhanded, like run for office knowing he had skeletons in his closet. I would never, never have gone public with his secrets. Never. I don't blame Elizabeth at all.
-
What did they expect her to do....stand on a stage and say....
Hi, my name is Elizabeth Edwards.....I'm dying from incurable breast cancer, my lying, pond-scum sucking husband is screwing another woman and had a child with her, I'm trying very hard not to consider murdering the son of a bitch and oh yeah....he's running for President of the United States.....Please vote for him.

There is a big difference between smiling up and supporting a slimeball in his ridiculous effort to become president of the United States and "going public with his secrets". Elizabeth Edwards should have stopped the trash in his tracks. She did wrong when she continued to try to subject the rest of the nation to this slime pus ball.
Elizabeth Edwards could have just withdrawn her support. Instead, she continued to be a cheerleader. That makes her as slimy as him.
We aren't talking about the coach of a local Little league. We are talking about the leader of the free world.

So, how would other countries look at a president that had a love child with a mistress? I seem to recall that many Europeans were laughing at the way Clinton's affairs were treated here.

Who the **** cares?

I only brought up the Europeans attitudes because you referred to it as electing the leader of the Free World. Now as to it being important in this country, yes, many would not vote for someone like that.

The president of the United States being the leader of the Free World is a position he assumes by default. He is elected by the people of the freest nation in the world. What the little minds in the rest of the world thinks matters not. They are like the USA's children. We take care of them regardless of the tantrums they throw.

If she couldn't talk him out of it, she had 2 options...go along with him, or do something radical to stop him. Now think a minute...we all know what kind of lawyer this guy is. Elizabeth may well be dying of cancer...and leaving behind 2 kids. If she ticked him off enough, what would happen to her, and her health care, and her medical costs? It may be that her main choices were to go along and try to live to see her kids grow up...or cross him, and watch him take the kids and her only chances of survival. Remember, in many states, even solid proof of adultery wouldn't go far to fight him in court.
I still don't blame her. Besides, if he had been nominated, this crap would have made McCain a shoe-in.

I'll wager a box of Pop-Tarts and its attending jar of mayonnaise that no small portion of these critics are Hillary supporters who think Edwards siphoned enough votes from the Dyke of Wellesy to give the half non-white guy the vote.
In their minds: If Lizzy had spoke-up Schlong John Silver wouldn't have run and Obama would be 1st runner-up at the political special olympics; ergo she gave the campaign to Obama which is giving the election to McCain. It isn't hypocrisy because what Hillary did SECURED the White House, not strategically bungled it into the hands of the GOP.
See the difference?

Sure!
That would make a great commercial. Worked for Bill and Hillary.

H5 Snugs. Dead on accurate.
Elizabeth had an easy out. She could have simply faded into the background once her health took a turn for the worse instead of defending her husband's fitness for POTUS.

I just noticed this unfortunate turn-of-phrase...

John Edwards: Two-Timer
heh
Now that Palin is in expect the vitriol to get worse. Because Elizabeth stayed mum not only did she enable an Obama candidacy and subsequent GOP WH retention BUT...
...Elizabeth also allowed the GOP to trump the dems on being the first to get a woman into the WH which steals the thunder from Hillary on every place but the thighs.

I have wondered if Edwards was going to be Obama's VP pick until the disaster was unleashed about his affair. It would have seemed a bitter fit for Obama than the loose cannon Biden. They're all interchangeable lawyers in the end, but Obama wanted a young pretty guy up there with him. It would have been better for his 'change' concept than Biden..
So, the Edwards' are the gift that keeps giving..
