Oh my.

I don't care what others might say; some guy 87 years old shouldn't still be on the bench.

9th Circuit Court of Appeals judge dies at 87

Judge Stephen Reinhardt, a circuit judge on the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals and a champion of liberal causes on the court, died Thursday at the age of 87.

BuzzFeed News reports that Reinhardt died unexpectedly during an appointment at a dermatologist's office Thursday afternoon, according to a court spokesman. The 87-year-old judge was first appointed to the bench by former President Carter in 1980.

Reinhardt, who served on one of the notoriously liberal courts in California, issued many prominent decisions during his tenure including a 2012 decision striking down California's ban on gay marriage.

Reinhardt also came into conflict with the Trump administration in recent months, declaring last year that unaccompanied minor undocumented immigrants have the right to periodic bond hearings as well as a separate decision calling a Trump order to deport a Mexican man "inhumane."

This old fart, the most-overturned judge in American history, was held in such contempt by the U.S. Supreme Court that many times they reversed his rulings without argument, without comment.

It's these moments when I affirm my vote for DJT.  The journey hasn't been easy, but his judicial appointments will make it all worth it (hopefully).  Bonus - it cuts lefty to the core every time he does it  :-)

That should have automatically disqualified him from being a judge.

Ultimately, this will stick to Harry "the pederast" Reid.   :yahoo:
Ted Nugent would be a great replacement.

Do I detect a hint of resigned despair in the posts by "kysrsoze" and BigPig?

Traditionally, Presidents, plus or minus an Obama, consulted Senators from the states where the judges presided for recommendations. Given the hostility between many of the Senators in the states in the 9th Circuit and Trump's tendency to go outside of tradition I have a feeling he may decline to consult those Senators (unless to learn of people he should avoid like plague). Given Trump's other judge nominations to date - hated to a man and woman by DU-folk - Trump could change the complexion of the 9th Circus Court some, and Reinhardt wasn't the only judge on the appeals and district courts who's really long in the tooth.

One can hope.

I was unaware of this passing, thank you frank.  I will have to imbibe a few beers this afternoon to celebrate his demise.

The Russians took him out so DJT would appoint someone who would strike down the sanctions against Russia.  <---Someone on DU, probably.

Can someone start the rumor that the dermatologist's name is Ivan Ivanovich Ivanov?  :-)

Thanks.

I was posting before the coffee kicked in, dreading going to my brother's shop to swap the transmission in my car...

Feeling much better now... :cheersmate:
