we'll see how The BarackStar! does without his teleprompter tonight.
Church Forum to Take Presidential Candidates Off Talking Points
John McCain and Barack Obama risk being seen out of their element and off their talking points Saturday night when they join influential pastor Rick Warren for a forum at his California mega-church.
But the unusual event also will provide an opportunity for the political rivals to woo conservative Christian voters, a bloc that has largely supported the Republican Party but that Obama nevertheless has courted.
The importance of the evangelical vote is only underscored by Obama’s and McCain’s willingness to join Warren at his Saddleback Church for the forum. It is their first such appearance together since they clinched their respective nominations. Obama has resisted calls from McCain to join him for a set of town hall meetings.
“The fact that this event is even taking place is significant,†Republican strategist Doug Heye said. “It could provide an opportunity for Barack Obama to make some inroads, but I think you’ll see John McCain stressing his conservative credentials.â€
Watch the forum live on FOX News starting at 8 p.m. ET Saturday.
Obama’s appearance at the forum will underscore the gulf between him and America’s most conservative religious voters on issues such as abortion and gay rights. If those issues come up, it will give McCain an opening to align himself with mainstream evangelicals.

watching this now . . .
-
rick warren has gone the way of bill o'reilly. he's too fond of his own voice.
-
he is asking some good questions. "At what point do babies get human rights?"
Obama cannot answer with specificity, it's above his paygrade... Excuse me didn't he vote pro abortion including late term and against medical care for an aborted fetus?

The BarackStar! is talking about humility. imagine that. :whatever:
-
OMG! he just said that clarence thomas wasn't qualified to be on the SCOTUS. the irony. it is rich.
-
he's talking like he negotiating a minefield and he is!
-
"The primary responsibility of the Supreme Court is to prevent the encroachment of the Executive branch on the rest of government." :whatever:
-
Any sane person wouldn't have nominated that Ginsberg ACLU Lawyer bitch. He said CLarence Thomas cause he's black. Safe answer.
-
"The primary responsibility of the Supreme Court is to prevent the encroachment of the Executive branch on the rest of government." :whatever:
Wow, Obama REALLY doesn't know shit does he? McCain's gonna' look great compared to this idiot.
-

stylistically, he is coming off very well, though. he seems very relaxed and comfortable.

That was a stupid answer. Very stupid.
-
define rich
:-)
-
rick warren is being used like a dish rag.
-
this guy voted for literal infanticide during his time in the illinois senate.
-
Define rich. Good question.
"$150,000 or less as a family, is middle class. I would argue that if you're making more than $250,000...."(changes subject without answering question).
-
and his tax plan is bullshit. it won't bring in the revenue to fund the billions and billions of additional dollars
that his programs will cost.
-
"If you have, $150,000 you could be rich, or poor". Did I hear that right?
:-)
-
he's on record for an additional 800 BILLION dollars in spending over his first term . . . his tax plan won't ****ing pay for it.
-
WTF!?!?!
his web guys are going to go insane tonight erasing his former positions on stuff from his website.
-
he just said something nice about GWB?
the DUmmies will not be amused.
-

Wow, Obama REALLY doesn't know shit does he? McCain's gonna' look great compared to this idiot.
How many actually know that it is the legislative branch that makes law?
-
I see that he has an american flag on his lapel tonight. that WAS a sign of "false patriotism" not too long ago
-
but then he comes on with torture in answer to religious persecution, jeez Obama get those talking point in
-

More than you would think. The call for "congress to do something" is universal.

jeez. one softball after another from warren ::)
-
ha ha ha! check this out: http://my.barackobama.com/page/invite/plane
-
but then he comes on with torture in answer to religious persecution, jeez Obama get those talking point in
he has contradicted himself a dozen times tonight. warren is obviously not steeped in the issues.
-
he is going to ask McCain the very same questions supposedly McCain is not hearing what Obama says.
-
like he hasn't run any negative ads, nor has he uttered any negative words about john mccain :thatsright:
-
he is going to ask McCain the very same questions supposedly McCain is not hearing what Obama says.
warren should be tearing him to pieces. my parents were given his book for sunday school a few years ago, but he is being
a wussy.
-
okay, john. you better hit this one out of the park, pal.
-
YESS!
petreus!
and a kewl answer to include meg whitman.
-
OMG!! his greatest personal failure was the failure of his first marriage.
he addressed that one straight up
-
Well, at least he put his first marriage out there. I know the DUmmies would love to use it against him.
America's greatest moral failure... "not urging more Americans to volunteer after 9/11 instead of telling them to go shopping." Good one.

fantastic answer!
-
he just knocked that ball outta the ballpark
-
he doesn't talk about his POW experience much, but it needs to be played up. he endured additional
abuse because his dad was an admiral, but he didn't cave in.

I think you're right, willow.

Great answer on Religion!
-
Another good answer...
-
oh.my.god.
what a great story!
-
I have tears in my eyes.
-
"I am a fedarlist".
-
"I am a fedarlist".
It's ok WE.
-
"defeat it"
-
Obama on evil confront it with humillity
McCain defeat it.
now do we really have a choice?
-
Of course you defeat evil. Who would negotiate with it? Oh yeah, Liberals would!
-
"Our troops will come home with victory and honor, and not in defeat."
-
"I am a fedarlist".
It's ok WE.
a "federalist", back during the founding, was a belief that we should encourage internal industry,
first and foremost.

I won't win cool points for this, but McCain is doing excellent so far, better than Obama
The actual answers to questions in these debates don't matter one bit as to who won them, only "moments" do. I honestly can't remember hardly any of Senator Obama's answers to the questions that were asked, while McCain has had at least SOME memorable answers.
I think it was a mistake for Senator Obama to do this forum.

35. Impossible to tell because they don't go in on equal footing.
Obama knows the deck is heavily stacked against him--and the fact that evangelicals tack Republican is inescapable for the media.
And it's easy to speak in soundbites because stupid people, like the folks in the audience, remember them. But I hope embittered Clinton supporters who are convinced that voting McCain will salve their egos in November are watching--because McCain revealed himself to be just another right-wing scumbag.

I have been watching and listening with great concentration. John McCain is making Obama look like the little boy he is. I'm amazed. I have never had any respect for John McCain. I have now found some.
There is no comparison between these two candidates. Obama seemed like a label on an empty jar. If you look around the label you can see straight through it. John McCain comes off as a real man made of flesh and bones held together with wisdom and experience.

The afterward commentary wasn't particularly kind to Obama. That's a surprise. There was an attempt to paint Obama's answers as "intellectual", thus implying McCain's answers were simplistic. That's absurd, of course. "Defeat it" was much more intellectual than that droaning game of hopscotch Obama played.

Both will get a bump in the polls. McCain will bump up and The Barckstar will get a bump down.
I think McCain.like him or not agree with him or not, shows he is ready to lead. Obama still going with the let's set down ,have a cup of coffee and talk about it. When the polls come in I'll maybe make a decision.

It's gonna be a hoot if Hillary walks out of the convention with the nomination ain't it?

She can get almost 90 million in public funds the very next day.

Are you kidding... The money will flow like water through a sieve into her campaign if that happens.

Did Obama win the Replay ?

Nope. Didn't win on the next try. :-)

Hillary is his only chance of winning. Is he smart enough to pick her as VP?

It's the dems own machine that is their own worst enemy. They put all their eggs into the basket of the candidate who has a whole lot of momentum early on..... but those candidates do not have the ability or substance to ride the wave to the election..... ref: Howard Dean.
I love hot chix with brains.
Spot-on observation.

i notice BO's problems starting on his answer to the first question... his wife is one of the wisest people he knows? because she's "honest"? so, she wasn't lying when she said America is "downright mean"? hmmm...
also, hasn't he been trying to keep his wife out as an issue, regardless of the fact that she's giving a speech at the convention...

I love hot chix with brains.
You should try them sauteed with garlic, bell pepper, and onion.

Even before last night there is no way could I vote for Obama- but before last night I wasn't to thrilled with McCain either. McCain climbed up the ladder for me though, with his directness.
One negative was when Obama talked about it being hard to send troops into harms was and EVERYTIME he visits them-----I wanted to climb through the tube and tell Warren to; ask him why he found it more appealing to play basketball then visit with the wounded troops. [Oh that's right , camera's weren't allowed in].
I still am waiting to see who his running mate will be though - notice several times they showed Sen. Lindsey Graham of South Caroline there - could that be a tip off?

They did not transcribe the ums, ahs, ers.. but 'yanno' was all over the place. Actually BO says 'you know', 'yanno' is so hayseed, donchaknow.

Thanks snugs, I am flattered to say the least.
It's a long election season and it's difficult to tiptoe through the tulips without having any real answers. And if I hear another non-answer from them spun as a "nuanced reply"... I am gonna 'splode. :-)

Don't sprinkle sugar on this shit and try to tell me it's candy. This was not a win for Obama by any stretch of the imagination. CNN did an after-event interview with him and he was pissed. They commented that they'd never seen him like this before.
And with good reason - Obama was used tonight, and he knows it. McCain got an hour-long, nationally televised campaign commercial, complete with a wildly cheering crowd and a friendly host.
Obama got played tonight. There might be one good thing to come out of this conference, though - so far, Obama has seemed to cling to the belief that McCain was going to run an honorable campaign and we could have an open, honest debate about the issues. That's not going to happen. This is war, and hopefully, Obama finally realized it tonight.

Hat tip to radical redneck, a fantastic link
Hillary, McCain and Halliburton wrote “Obamanation†not Jerome Corsi!
(http://whitenoiseinsanity.wordpress.com/2008/08/16/hillary-clinton-is-the-one-who-actually-wrote-the-obama-nation-not-jerome-corsi/)Jerome Corsi had Mary Matalin help him produce the book he wrote about Obama. Mary Matalin is married to James Carville. James Carville used to work for Bill Clinton’s campaign back in the 1990’s and they’re still friends. Hillary Clinton is married to Bill Clinton and she was running against Barack Obama for the Democratic ticket this year. So therefore…
This means Hillary Clinton was actually the one who wrote the book and through her good pal Mary Matalin had her find the schmuck Jerome Corsi to put his name on the book to protect herself from being associated in any way shape or form to be being behind it.
