No power: Day 3

Had a fierce windstorm blow through Western, NY on Wednesday afternoon.

Lost power almost immediately on Wednesday around noon. Almost 80,000 without service in our county, and well over 100K in the surrounding area.

Hopefully by 4 p.m. is what we're being told.

Gonna be into the low teens and twenties all weekend, it's 48 in our home currently.

Got a generator running the vitals. Including coffee.

Not sure what my motivation is in sharing this, I guess just musing to pass the time...

Anyone else in WNY riding this out as well?

How much damage are you intending to inflict on mother erf for all of your "vitals"???

4. That's awful. Hope your power is restored soon.

We were without power for several days once... we huddled around the fireplace and cooked our meals in it. It was like camping.... but way colder. After that, we bought a generator! Knock on wood, we haven't had to use it. *

*(Crossing my eyes, spitting three times, and rubbing a lucky rabbit's foot!)

Another DUmmie comfortable kicking mother erf in the erf-nuts , so long as it benefits them.

I know, right?

You'd think a few days without power, and they'd revert back to their hippie ancestry of no showers, drum circles, and filth.

I don't understand why this crave for conventionalist living is so strong.  I wish this DUmmie would row over here and explain to me how their coffee is ERF FIRST.  Or how their generator is ERF FIRST.

First implies above all else, and that's not what's going on.

I'm actually in western NY.  Fortunately missed the worst of it, only down about twelve hours.  It's why we have the wood stove and a spring out back, this happens quite often, especially in the very rural areas.

I was a line clearance trimmer at one time in my younger days, a lot of power outage problems in a wind storm are exacerbated by people  who won't let their trees be trimmed.  Routine trimming, while you may not like it, or it may not look good, will greatly increase a region's odds of keeping power in a windstorm.

^^ I'm in Northern New York, and that tree trimming is pretty much mandatory.  They come along in crews and just do it, you don't have a choice.  They'll even take down old dead trees that'll create a risk.  This is at their cost, and it normally would run $1,000.  So I say go for it.  By "they" I mean National Grid, the power company.

I don't get sentimental about trees, there are certainly a lot of them about.  I hate power outages.

What do you call a person that wants to build a house in the wilderness?
An evil capitalist developer that hates the earth.

What do you call a person that already has a house in the wilderness?
An environmentalist that loves the earth.

The left is hypocrisy straight down the line.

Add a few hills and that'd be a good trail run course.

Yeah, they believe that their "Enlightened" state means that they are allowed to do things that they believe others shouldn't be allowed to do. It's a standard liberal tenet; Do as I say, not as I do.
