Can he shut off our internet?
Make it so expensive we can't afford it? Use it to target dissenters?
"It Can't Happen Here" seems to be on it's way to reality.
Yuuge crowds marching in the streets, worldwide, didn't stop Shock and Awe.
Even so, I'll be on the streets here in Portland.
Who's pulling the levers behind 'the curtain'?

What I sincerely wish I could do is slap every single idiot on DU upside the head. What the hell is wrong with these lunatics?

Well, half of them are stoned and passed out.
The other half have hit the Johnny Walker and are raging mad.
My only regret is that I have to go to bed and miss out on it.

Cutting off the DUchebag's internet maybe the only way to kill my schadenboner. Trump would never do that to me and tens of millions of real Americans, so you have interwebs DUmbasses.
-
This is hysterical :rotf: They talk about how republican's are the biggest users of welfare right? so wouldn't that mean the poor Trump voting republican's would be cut off if their theory is right? :naughty:

I actually feel sorry for the few Democrats on DU that behave. (the one's that tell these idiots what they are saying is BS).
Is Skinner ok with them acting like this for the world to see and mock?

All your internet are belong to us!

Titles are important.
The interweb is just a distraction.

H5 for the title change, but you're assuming that the XYs have one.

Since Internet access is mostly through private companies - whether paid home service or "free" at Starchucks (and other businesses) or through one's job (probably not many DU-folk have experience with this) - or through government agencies and colleges, no.
Whether as individuals or as en entire discussion site, DU-folk are to insignificant to be on Trump's radar screen (and I am well aware that the same could be said of me and this discussion sites I frequent).DU-folks' inflated sense of self-importance is astoundingly amusing.
(Fixed a typo)

No, Dummy, he won't turn off your internet. He'll take the weaponized IRS that your manchild left him and turn it on you. Betcha didn't see that coming, didya?

I don't know about the DUmmies, but my internet seems to be working fine. It's 1:25 PM EST, and I've already received my marching orders from President Trump, via way of the VRWC interwebnets pipe of info.

Supersecret MAGAMessage: The squirrel rides the dawn. Tab A in slot F.

My uneducated rural republican voter encryption key isn't working. Did Trump change it? I haven't gotten the secret memo yet. the russians must have delayed the mailing for some reason. I'll have to call the kremlin club to see what's going on.

I'm really irked, as if I don't already have enough to be pissed off about.

Freerepublic.com is DOWN for everyone.
You know, if I were a donor--I once was, about twelve years ago--I'd be upset about this; they seem to go down during the worst times and they seem to go down because of the software of the site.
There's an easy solution to all this; they could use the nearly universal SMF software, so that if something goes wrong, they're not utterly dependent upon the only one person who knows it.
Perhaps miskie, who knows this stuff, could reasonably speculate why Skinner and Jim Robinson go with their unique clutterclut rather than using a boilerplate format?

Because it is what they have been running all these years. They are invested in this platform and software architecture -- it would be all but impossible to switch. They have millions of messages that would have to be reformatted to the new structure (if at all possible) and many of the users have grown to know and like the way it operates.
I prefer it to the nested approach of most BBs.

Jimrob takes in a TON of money every year. There is no excuse for how badly that site is administered. It should be redundant at the very least. He rakes in all that cash and just lets it fester.

I don't think he cares as long as he gets paid.

It is a point of (misplaced) pride.

I remember back when Chimpy McCokespoon bu$hitler turned off their internet in 2004, exactly as they predicted then. It was right after he cancelled the elections and declared marshal law, whoever that guy is.

I just go there to peruse the Latest Articles. The interminable Freepathons are an insult.

You're on the good list in the secret VRWC dossiers. Not to worry.

Have the OPSEC regs changed? I know that with President Trump, a lot of the regs have changed, but have the OPSEC regs been part of that?

They decided to declas that dossier program when they fired up the PARGEN this time.

That is pretty much it, right there.
What really surprised me is that team Skins didn't even take the opportunity to move his site to https:// after DU was hacked. https:// makes use of encryption for each connection, making it far harder for anyone to snoop on the data going back and forth between a users computer and the website. Anyway, it makes it fairly clear to me that even the current version of DU is fairly difficult to maintain and update, even for the designers of the platform. As for FR.. The website is a dinosaur that refuses to die. It really needs to be put down, and a new site launched in its place. However, I'm also sure it is far too late to be able to do any sort of transition to a newer platform. Much of FR is written in PERL - Which is loaded with security issues, and is slow as hell. Moving to a modern language would not only be more secure, the site would run faster, and use a crapton less resources. FR has been running since when, 1996 ? Time for an upgrade guys..

I've been participating in I'net discussion sites for about 20 years, some that look like DU's or FR's (I assume, I've not gone there this century), and some similar to CC or vBulletin or phpBB, or etc.. I loath that dinosaurian DU-FR-style user interface. And the hacker hoards "out there" have, collectively, vastly more talent and creativity than one or three spare-time basement code-spinners at DU or FR!
FR and older sites like it started back in the RYO days, and have a significant investment therein. I get that. But for the sake of usability and looking modern, they really should have transitioned to something more modern 15 or more years ago. Turning the old forum into an archive and starting up the new forum, with a transition time when new threads could not be started on the old forum but "live" threads could be talked out isn't totally painless, but for usability, security, and not looking dinosaurian, it's what they should have done.

If jimrob would spend the resources to do a conversion (not a simple matter) instead of.. well, whatever the 400 grand/yr goes to, it would be a huge deal for everyone involved.
one would think since it's his cash cow, he would make the investment. i just dont get it. hell, he's even still hosting it on his own hardware instead of just getting some virtual hosting space. even recovery could be measured in minutes v/s days like it is now. eh well... who knows.
I mean, I would totally get it if it was a volunteer gig and all the time and expenses were just coming out of his pocket and kindness.
donating money to a site that is unreliable and cantankerous doesn't usually fly well with customers.
