The Cost Of Razor Blades Is Outrageous. We Are Being Gouged In So Many Ways.
I bought an electric shaver to hopefully save on razor blades. I quit buying Gillette or Schick a long time ago. The prices for these blades seems really out of line. Since I do not buy these high priced blades I do not know how many shaves a guy gets. Each blade should last a month but I am sure it does not.
May that is why I am seeing a lot more beards these days. Or maybe its a trend or fad.
At least you are not a woman and shaving your leg too.

8. I slip shave. Not positive that the blades stay sharper longer but I think? they do.
Been shaving with one blade now for almost 3 weeks. Takes some practice though.
Anyone know what he is talking about?

Okay, I'm confused.
Even though I've used this stuff since about the age of 15 years, apparently I'm not "up" on the jargon of it all.
A primitive posted a photograph of a Gillette double-sized razor that uses two-sided blades.....and called it a "safety razor."
I had no idea; I always thought a "safety razor" was one of those things old-time barbers used to use, sharpening it on a leather strap.
Does anybody know what those were called? Like Hypertensive Bob, I'm tired of always buying new blades, and just as soon get one of those, even though they're more primitive and perhaps not as safe for a non-barber to use.

The old-timey blade is called a straight razor. A safety razor is one of these

I use a safety razor because the replacement blades are cheap and I seem to get a much closer shave

I always called them a straight edge and think the idea of the disposable ones was the head around it thus making it a safety razor.
My father used one and I tried it once many, many years ago and after becoming used to the typical double edge flexible blade of that day I looked like I had been in a dog fight afterwards. :p
Gone is the day of the styptic pencil as with the 5 blade Fusion I use now it is virtually impossible to cut oneself.

Guess they've never heard of the dollar shave club

I'm glad you asked.
The razor which must be stropped is called a straight razor, or cut-throat razor. I started using one last July as part of 'the manliest two hours on your radio'. It's time-consuming, prone to nicks and cuts (especially on my chin), and a hell of a lot of fun. As an added bonus, chicks dig watching a Man use a cut-throat razor!
A cut-throat razor with disposable blades is called a shavette, and barbers use them for hygeine reasons.
The two-bladed safety razor was invented in 1901 by Gillette.

You're not going to believe this.
Having advanced a long time ago to state-of-the-art shaving and finding it irksome, I some years ago began reverting, stepping backwards to ever-increasing primitive means of shaving, hoping that some more-ancient instrument might be more useful.
What you call "safety razors"--my father used them himself--apparently are not on the market in all of northeastern Nebraska, even though dozens and scores of other models are. Not even at Wal-Mart. This is a trade area about as big as New England minus Maine all put together, with a whopping 50,000 inhabitants, and so it seems there should be a market for that.
But no. I dunno what the safety razor people have against us. And yeah, I know I could probably get the things on-line, but basically I'm lazy and prefer just to take what's on a shelf.
-
I'm glad you asked.
Speaking of, has anybody here ever lived in a house where, in the medicine cabinet in the bathroom, there was a slot through which one put used razor blades?
Both houses in which I grew up--one from 1910 alongside the Platte River, a brand-new one in the heart of the Sandhills--had these slots, and my father used them.
I wonder if anybody's ever taken down a bathroom wall and examined what all had been behind it.

Ol' Crazy Bob is worried about the price of razors because . . .
. . . his friends won't be able to afford them to commit suicide, when the Dems lose the White House. :whistling:

Those slots just let the blades drop between the walls. There was nothing to catch them.

I think all those used rusty razor blades littering the inner walls of countless homes poses a greater risk to humanity than climate change or radical islam combined.

Next he'll say soap and water cost too much and blaming the Republicans for why he smells so bad.

That's why we need illegal immigrants to tear down all those old houses when new ones are built. Let them get sliced up on all those old rusty blades. :whistling:

Hop-a-long Bob should network with the Big Guy when it comes to saving big bucks on shaving gear. :panic:

What is Bob bitching about? He has spare money floating around from only having to buy toenail clippers half as often nowadays.

I use an Edwin Jagger safety with Japanese Feather Hi-Stainless blades.
Just don't sneeze or flinch, or you'll end up missing body parts like Bob.

Only takes one to kill yourself, Banzin. Don't be such a cheapskate.

Also, a pair of socks will last twice as long.
So long as they are not used for anything else...:jerkit:

Yeah, and he can get BOGO on pedicures, too!
Edited, because I was late to the dance with the sock joke.

That type of humor is pornographic.

Every time I think of a straight razor, I think of this movie:

Sooooo ... TMN bought an electric razor so as to avoid giving his $$ to the EEEEEE-vile corporations, Gillette and Schick? I'm sure the corporate giants, Philips-Norelco or Remington are thankful. I hope he takes seriously the advice to replace the blades in the electric razor every year or so. If he doesn't, ummmm, in a year or so he won't be very happy, IYKWIM.

Didn't you read his post? he plans on killing himself with an electric razor (NOT by stepping into a bathtub).

I have no idea what DUmmie TMN's problem is with razor blades. I use a Gillette Fusion razor (4 blades) and mine last at least 2 months.
The secret is to dry the blades after you use the razor, corrosion will kill the edge long before your beard will.
I don't know if this has anything to do with it, but for 42 of my 56 years, I've used my grandfather's shaving mug and brush (actually, the brush has been replaced 3 times already), with Wilkinson's shaving soap. I haven't bought a can of shaving cream since I started shaving.
Such a whiny little bitch...

Bob has been under a lot of stress over the last couple of years, ever since he was robbed of the ability to let go of his stress by playing his favorite childhood pastime, hopscotch.
In an effort to help Bob ease his burden, I have compiled this handy-dandy guide to help him begin his walk onto the path of reduced stress:
