Doctors hail 'spectacular' cancer treatment breakthrough

Doctors have hailed a "spectacular" breakthrough in cancer treatment after a pair of drugs were found to shrink tumours in nearly 60% of people.
A British-led trial on 945 patients with advanced melanoma found treatment with immune-boosting drugs - ipilimumab and nivolumab - stopped the cancer advancing for nearly a year in 58% of cases.
Melanoma is the most serious form of skin cancer and kills more than 2,000 people in Britain each year.
Immunotherapy harnesses the body's immune system to attack cancerous cells.
Experts say the treatment may bring about a "whole new era" for successful cancer care.

One thing you can always count on, however, is the collective DU response to any news about cancer treatment. There are two overlapping schools of DU thought on all cancer treatment:
School 1: Marijuana has been proven to not only slow cancer, but to cure it altogether. Yes, there are DUmmies who, joint in their mouth between bites of pot-laden brownie, link to sites which claim that cancer is eradicated by marijuana.
School 2: Cancer treatment is too lucrative for a cure to ever be allowed. This is the view espoused by DUmmies who cannot afford whatever medication it is that currently keeps them alive (yet they manage to live, anyway, alas).
Let's see, now. 41 years of High Times magazine, yet no fullpage ads anywhere in there advertising a hippie commune where the cancer-stricken can go and be cured in months. Marijuana is SUCH a cancer cure that the biggest, most annoying potheads on the planet would rather run ads for growth lights and for the Rosicrucians than for the cure to mankind's modern plague.
Also, thousands of universities and labs around the world studying the same set of problems, with (conservatively) hundreds of billions of revenue at stake, and every putative cure for cancer has been squashed? Yeah, right.
Imagine, if you will, the state of public health and health research of the DUmmies get to socialize medicine. Oy.

They've known about it for ages, but the cancer industry has been unwilling to fund the research. Now with breakthroughs like this, maybe we can advance cancer treatment beyond a 100 year-old model. Great news.

Hey! Give Buzzy credit for that one. That is funny! Maybe, BFDU, you're too young to remember laetrile being the anti-cancer-wonder-drug that was suppressed by eeeeeee-vile Big Pharma back in the late 60s and early 70s?

There is never a cancer treatment thread on DU without someone claiming that weed cures it completely.
