McCain: GOP can't stop health care
« on: December 20, 2009, 12:23:38 PM »
Politico link

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) concedes that Republican senators won’t be able to stop Democratic health care reform legislation from passing the Senate before Christmas.

“We will fight until the last vote,” McCain told "Fox News Sunday" host Chris Wallace. “We owe that to our constituents, because we must do everything – we must look back and say we did everything to prevent this terrible mistake from taking place.”

Democrats recently reached a deal with hold out members of their own caucus to cobble together the 60 votes necessary to pass the bill - and McCain, in response to a Wallace question, said there’s “probably not” anything the GOP can do to block the bill. “But what we can do is continue winning the battle of American public opinion.”

From the comments:

Quote
THE PEOPLE MAY NOT BE ABLE TO STOP THIS MONSTROSITY NOW, BUT WE CAN REVERSE IT IN 2010 AND 2012. I AM NOT POLITICALLY ACTIVE AS A MIDDLE CLASS WORKING PERSON, I DON'T GOT TIME. I TRUSTED YOU, BUT NOW I WILL MAKE TIME, AND I WILL POLITICALLY ACTIVE NOW!!! WE WILL CRUSH YOU, YOU ELITIST SCUM BAG CROOKS!!! STOP WASTING OUR MONEY AND SPENDING US INTO OBLITERATION!!! THE PEOPLE UNITE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If that doesn't sum up what has happened to this country the last forty years, then I don't know what does. We all could probably name lots of people who complain about taxes, government intrusion, etc. yet will vote for the most shallow of politicians or not vote at all. How many people still think democrats are "for the poor?" I still hear that. I tell them that of course democrats are for the poor, it's how they stay in power. If democrats were really "for the poor", they would be doing everything they could to make those people rise up out of poverty. Instead, they do everything they can to keep the poor people poor, and make new poor people.

With the mountain of government suppression, what more will it take for people to wake up?

HI,

BOY YOU HIT A NERVE WITH ME BIG TIME.  WE HAVE HUGE BUDGET DEFICITS, WHY, BECAUSE CONGRESS DID NOT HAVE THE COURAGE OR WILL TO DO WHAT IS RIGHT.  I WILL START WITH A LAW THAT SAYS ALL CURRENT AND FORMER MEMBERS OF CONGRESS AND THE EXECUTIVE BRANCH OF GOVERMENT SHALL LOSE ALL THEIR PENSIONS AND BE COVERED ONLY BY SOCIAL SECURITY.  THEY GET MILLIONS IN PENSIONS FOR SCREWING NOT ONLY THEIR GENERATION BUT FUTURE GENERATIONS.  TIME TO FIX THAT ALSO.

While we are at it, same holds true for medical care and everything else. If it is good enough for us, then it is good enough for them.

I would find it hard for any voter to be opposed to that one.

regards,

Where is our third branch of government?

Legislating from the bench in their own liberal fashion on far too many occassions.

He also told Chris Wallace that he's "always been a Conservative" too.

Take what he says with a grain of salt.

Disagree. They could, but they don't have the brass for doing what it would really take to educate people on this.. to create the atmophere for the beast that is America to awaken... They're way to scared to do what is RIGHT.

I don't believe they are scared - their arrogance toward everyone other than themselves is the reason members of both parties need an attitude adjustment, with a defeat the next election.
yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery - today is a gift- that's why it's called the "present"

They don't have the votes, period.  Only chance they had of stopping it was getting a dem to flip.  And with Lieberman and Nelson caving, there is no chance.

you get enough information out there on the truths of the bill - to the consitutents in key DFL states - and get people riled up, they will make enough phone calls to have an impact. GOP simply won't do that.

IN the confines of the Senate, I agree with you.

Hi,

I see you got the book I sent you on how to overcome shyness......

BTW, I agree with you.  My wife said today if McCain and Palin got elected we would not have this health care bill.  I said no, instead we would have had amnesty for all the illegals with health care to follow.

regards,

Don't worry, amnesty is still in the works following Cap and Tax.

Yep,the votes are needed, just had to sweeten the pot a bit to make sure they vote correctly when the ballot box opens to them.

It has to work in that order - after cap-n-tax puts everyone in the poorhouse, the only people anyone will be able to afford to hire will be illegals, or, that is, those who are illegals now.
