If it weren't for decades of hair-splitting throughout our legal system, slip and fall lawyers and politicians, and, one could argue, fifty years of the pro-abortion politicians refusing to sign their names on actual legislation after RvW, doctors might not be fearful of doing what does need to be done in cases like this. The claim is that the baby was, sadly, miscarried. Which does mean something needs to be done to remove it for the mother's health, and the baby is unfortunately gone. I have read some reports of doctors in Texas fearing performing such procedures due to uncertainty about how our current anti-abortion laws could be interpreted. Not sure the validity of those reports, but knowing the legal climate and the volatility of the abortion issue, I'd call such stories feasible.
My heart goes out to anyone who endures a miscarriage, it's a horrible experience. But unfortunately, these situations are made worse by so many things the libs embrace, especially when those things can be worked into their favor.
