I have known Sparky since 2004.   Love him like a brother and fight with him like one also.  We don't hold grudges (no crybabies allowed).

You should have seen the sports forum we used to post on -- we beat the snot out of each other daily.   Good times.

If it was the forum(seacoast) I think it was, there was alot of bad feelings.

I started out on CC's sister board USMilNet after the Military.com boards went leftist.  Thor (I think) posted up a link to CC in his siggy, and the rest, as they say, is history.

(b) any suggestions on how to improve conservativecave?

What are the chances of adding something like "Whack a Troll" aka: a line of code that checks reputation ratios (hi-5s vs. BS'es) against post counts, and if the numbers work out, it limits a troll's ability to shit on the rug?

Just wishful thinking on my part, but maybe it'd make mod'ing the boards here a little easier job...

Yeah, Sparky brought a bunch of great people with him from that Seacoast forum.  Have you heard Vesta's latest opine on wire hangers?  You shouldn't miss it.

a.  I have enjoyed passing the time by reading bouncies for several years.  I used to go check the Greatest Threads at Skin's Island and hope to find one--hit and miss.  Doing some kind of web search I learned that Conservative Cave collects/consolidates/critiques bouncies.  After lurking for a while, I had the desire to chime in about my favortie DUmmies so I joined.
b.  My idea for the Cave:  Like I said, I love the bouncies.  But the posters don't usually give a good enough physical description of themselves for me to really visualize the story as well as I'd like sometimes.  I know, they aren't writing a novel, but a bouncy really jumps off the page when I have a good image of them created in my mind.  And it is actually two distinct images:  1.  How I imagine the DUmmie looks to him or herself and to the other DUmmies, that is, the confident, heroic, intelligent image that the DUmmie is trying to project.  And 2.  How civilized people from the real world imagine the DUmmie.  For example, when I'm reading something by know-it-all nadin, I imagine that she fancies herself as sort of a left-wing Liz Cheney.  But the image I have in my mind for the true nadin is that of Andrea Dworkin.  I'm sure that nadin actually looks nothing like Dworkin, but it helps to make her posts spring to life for me when I have some kind of picture that fits her nature.  Another example, whenever a DUmmie poster makes it known that he's a military veteran, I imagine him as thinking of himself as the movie actor Sam Elliot, but my real world image of him is Markos Moulitsas or Bradley Manning.  See how that works?  Let me be clear to any lurking DUmmies that think I'm obsessed with them, I don't want to violate anyone's privacy or find out their identity or what they really look like.  I just want a way to help make their posts come alive for me.  The problem for me is that some DUmmies stump my limited imagination.  I come up empty trying to visualize stinky the clown(the Dude) among others.  So the idea I had was for the creation of a Rogues Gallery of Skin's Island All-Stars with the paired images:  the Skin's Island idealized image along with an image of their true nature.  I know what you're probably thinking.  :stoner:

It wasn't seacoast, but I did post there also.  The only "bad feelings" were with the perennial nutjobs Athena, CEO, Kelley and Cujo among others.

Actually, sir, that does happen for some of us, if one reads the DUmpster long enough.

Sooner or later, a "picture" evolves in our minds of a particular primitive, and is "refined" through further reading.

And more often than not--not all the time, but more than half the time--whenever a primitive posts a photograph of himself (or allegedly of himself; no telling), the photograph and the "picture" we have, are somewhat similar.

The only one I didn't get along with was Athena.I talk to a few of them today via Facebook. Unfortunately Geek tried to start her version, but it didn't do well. In fact I got an email, that said she was shutting it down....about a month ago. I have met a few of them in person.

On my computer, the deal is no matter what I do, I can't get to either "visiting" or "member" status.  I dunno why, but it's not a big deal, and hence I don't worry about it.  I have two other accounts here, as a regular member, "DU AdBot" and "Peter Shilikov," but I can't get to them; only to "franksolich."

Frank....sorry it took me a while to see this, but waaaaay up at the top of your board screen on the right side there is a "logout" button.  If you click it, it should log you out.....you're then a guest, or you can go over to the left side to the blank boxes (on the main page) and log in again, with the same or a different account.

If you select "login forever" (there are several other choices), the board software places a "cookie" in your temporary internet files, which contains your login and password, therefore assuring that all you have to do is come to our URL, and you're logged in automatically.

If you ever use a utility like CCleaner, it will clean out all of your auto login scripts, and you will be a "guest" until you log in again and receive another cookie.

But there's a quirk that when I start entering the screen name after having been logged out, it's immediately substituted with "franksolich."  (By the way, I have this same exact problem with gmail and photobucket too, where I have three accounts in each place.)

But I'm not worried about it; it's a nuisance, but it's such a small nuisance.  I can live with it.

<<uses CCleaner religiously, every time I shut off the computer, as instructed.

I'm sure that's one of the biggest reasons this computer has worked like a well-oiled engine, this constant cleaning job.

Internet Explorer has an option called AutoComplete.  It *tries* to do that for you.  It can be turned off.

You have the option of setting your login length before you're automatically logged out... 1 day/week/month or forever.  Not sure what it does by default though, since I'm always logged in.

OK thanks Chris. Didn't know that. I'll check it out.   :cheersmate:
