Natural gas will be our best chance to wean ourselves of foreign oil. Greenie energy will not do it

Coal, natural gas and nuke for electricity, and our own oil for transportation uses would get us a long way there though.

Electricity production is the largest consumer of oil in the US.  Roughly 38% of the oil used domestically goes to electricity production (27% goes to transportation -- that's a whole lot of batteries).  Cut that and you've cut out a whole lot of money going to OPEC.

Help may be on the way in the next couple of years. Boone Pickens stated that Congress will pass a Natural Gas energy bill by July 4. It will be to convert diesel trucks to natural gas. However, I suspect it will also apply to natural gas distribution to homes. We are swimming in natural gas. The price is very low but has recently picked up. EXXON purchased XTO (a major natural gas corporation)  for a reason. They see the handwriting on the wall. Natural gas can greatly reduce our dependence on foreign oil. Bummer might have something right for a change.

If I remember correctly gas does not give as much 'bang' for the buck.

We could easily increase natural gas production by 50% in the next few years. We have pipeline running thru many states so infrastructure would not be as costly as this greenie crap. Natural gas is pumped back into the ground from wells in AK. What a waste. Just goes to show you how many morons we have had in DC for the last 50 years. I don't know what stage the natural gas pipeline from AK to the US is in but it should provide a great deal of supply.

In south central Illinois you could see the oil well pumps in the fields at night. They were burning the gas off and had huge flames on them.

Then there is this, which is why, IIRC, the very Green P_town North went out of the CNG busses and back to diesel.

It is being used to generate electricity here.  Haven't heard any bumb rap on that.

It is callled waste gas cause it is not feasible to use or transport. The waste gas is burned off to release pressure on the equipment as a safety precaution. These flare offs are done at refineries, chemical plants, gas plants, etc.

It went up ten cents today, for regular gasoline, to $3.74.

The 10-15% ethanol mix is $3.64.

More than two times higher it was the last hour George Bush was in office, a little over two years ago.

That seems to be the "normal" increase now. Not pennies at a time. It's much worse than that. :banghead:

Gas went up 1 cent, Diesel went down 3.

Heating oil is 3.89/G (1.03/L). My tank holds 1000 liters and I have to fill it because I ran out. If I fill it I'll end up paying 1030+$ s I'd rather just fill it to have.

Is heating oil more or less Diesel+Colour? I was told that the other day, the guy said it would run in my car.

God help you if you get caught and your tank gets sampled.  At least here it's a fine in the neighborhood of several thousand bucks.

BTW--current regular unleaded price now $3.645/gal nationally.  Just over 45 cents/gal away from all-time high.

$3.544 average in NH, (I just filled up for $3.569.)  Up 17 cents over the last month, 83 cents over the last year.

It might not be $4.35/gal nationally by Memorial Day as I earlier predicted, but $4 is a virtual certainty.

I don't plan on it, I was just wondering. They don't test for that sort of thing around here but I still don't plan on doing it.

Down here they sure as hell do.  Random stops, particularly of the truckers at the weigh stations.

You'll see that rule bent a lot in areas that have a lot of farms.  If you've got a truck you use exclusively on the farm, etc., it's fine, but as soon as you hit a public highway there better not be any off-road diesel in the tank.

That was a big meme in the MSM a few years back, the first time we had $4/gal gas.  Then again, we also had Frau Pelosi and the rest of the 'Rat bastards clamoring for investigations.

Now?  Not so much.  Which means the MSM is NOT going to print the stories like they did in 2008 about the poor commuters, or people working 4-10's, etc., or towns who do the same to save on fuel.

And FWIW, I don't have that luxury right now.  6 days a week.  One tank lasts 4 days, meaning 1 1/2 tanks a week.  7 tanks a month.  $65 each fillup.  Plus tolls.  Yeah, I'm looking at $500/month just in gas/tolls right now.

You don't have EZPass??? Man that is rough. You could take rt 1 from Portmouth or rt 108 thru Dover/stratham,and then picking up 101, but that is very slowgoing and a headache.
I remember msm taking about 4 day schoolweek. But people started pissing and moaning, longer schooldays or extending the school year. and the extra day of kids being by themselves.

I don't think so. I go thru 2 myself, I have Ezpass. I am sure there are loopholes. For ex: If that was the only route he had. But it would be all stop and go on the roads I mentioned.
