“The decision by Elizabeth MacDonough, the Senate’s nonpartisan interpreter of its often enigmatic rules, is a damaging and disheartening setback for President Joe Biden, congressional Democrats and their allies in the pro-immigration and progressive communities,” noted the Associated Press (AP).

“It badly damages Democrats’ hopes of unilaterally enacting — over Republican opposition — changes letting several categories of immigrants gain permanent residence and possibly citizenship,” it added.

As news of the setback poured out over social media, leftists and their allies were unanimous in their frustration, with many urging Senate Democrats to simply ignore MacDonough and ram the initiatives through anyway.

hide a monumental issue of law in a budget bill.

Democrats are attempting to conceal and smuggle a
nation-altering policy past the citizens of that nation.

Senate Parliamentarian Elizabeth MacDonough had the
principles and the strength to say no.

It is a sign of how brazen Democrats have become, and
how they will ignore any law or rule they wish -- if
they are allowed.

It is a sign of how dangerous it is to trust them
with any power at all.

Democrats have been doing this for years -- instill non-budgetary "social" legislation within "must-pass" budgetary bills. It's the worst kind of extortion and Repubs find themselves on the defensive with this crap time after time after time.

I note that McConnell basically told Yellen to pound sound when she insisted that the debt ceiling be raised yet again. At least HE'S paying attention -- this time.

Let's see if he holds out or cuts a "deal".  I'm predicting the latter.

wouldn't be the first time he's cut a back room deal.

I'm encouraged that this time he seems to be playing hardball with the Dems and has even Susan Collins supporting the caucus -- if you can believe her.
