This never happened
I one who does not recognize Popes as having authority outside of the Catholic Church. That still makes the Pope an authority for hundreds of millions of my brothers and sisters in Christ, and I respect their respect of that authority. I expressed my opinion of Francis above, but his problematic actions - problematic IMO - are minor compared to some Popes of the more distant past (e.g. Steven VI and Alexander VI).
Trying to word this sarcasm- and hyperbole-free, much of what I see in DU-posts about Christianity, especially about Evangelicals, persuades me that the ones posting have seldom if ever darkened the door thresholds of any sort of theologically conservative (= acknowledging the authority of the Bible) Christian church.
True. However, out of simple Christian charity, I know 99.999% of practicing Christians will be extending sympathy to their fellow members of the body of Christ who are mourning at this time, whether they recognized the earthly supremacy of His Holiness or not.
The only ones I see having difficulty with that particular characteristic of Christianity will be the ones like the DUmp'Rats, who claim to be active church-goers but hold belief structures and the associated actions driven by those beliefs that make some of us question the accuracy of that claim.
Can JD schedule an emergency meeting with Murkowski and Collins?

Some Christians don't recognize the Pope as God's representative on Earth. Many believe that God in the person of Jesus Christ is God's representative on Earth.
