Don’t want to say disclose where I work, but a year ago I bought a very large and complicated device for the building where I work.

It cost $373,000

It is being built in Europe. Takes a great while to build. Hence a year later only now it is ready.

Got the message from the supplier today. It is good to go, but we need to pay $30,000 in tariffs.

Money right down the drain on the overall budget of my project.

Businesses can’t function this way.

Takket's employer had 5-6 months to purchase the "device" so as to avoid the 10% tariff but did not? Sounds like mismanglement ... or DUmmie-Fiction.

Very sketchy tale which I completely do not believe. A proper business would have weighed decisions on a capital expenditure and the potential impacts of tariffs considering it isn't as though President Trump didn't telegraph his plans.

Assuming this bouncy is true, I'll bet $1000 that this DUmmy doesn't realize that the Big Beautiful Bill allows full expensing of the purchase rather than depreciating the expenses over its useful life. Yes, those are geeky accounting issues but VERY important when a business makes such decisions.

Additionally, if this machinery took a year to build in "Europe", your company could have paid up front and then you would not have to pay the tariff.

So much fishy in this tale...

Like most DU stories, it likely should have began with "So" which is the DU equivalent of "Once upon a time".

And they're not going to say what sort of device, other than it's very complicated and expensive. I love guessing games! :-)
