got a nice haul from the farmer's market this morning
one of the stands has a deal where you can pack as much into a newspaper delivery bag as you can for ten dollars. scored at least three pounds of taters, a bunch of kale, two bunches of green onions and two bunches of asparagus. i also got a half-dozen tamales, a large tomato and honey.
not bad for my first trip of the season. i can't wait for the corn and peaches to come it.

5. I'm so tired of paying $1.99/lb for yellow squash & zucchini--can't wait until the FM gets them in
Waaaay too early for Colorado home grown squash, but had hoped some of the growers might be supplementing with a little "hot house" growing..

7. 1.29 here, at the produce stand.
and scored a lovely medium size watermelon, for about 6.00.
a bit pricey, but I was really craving melon. It will last me a week.
they sell melons by the each, not by the pound.
Come July, monster melons will go for 6.00...so big I cannot even pick them up, and I have to cut it up and share with neighbors just to have enough room in the fridge.

9. Honey???
Heck, if I saw that deal, I'd pack the entire bag full of honey. It must be a lot cheaper out where you are. Around here, a single pound or so of honey runs $11.
By the way, I recently talked to a guy who keeps bees, both down in Texas and up here on the roof of Nebraska.
He explained that most of what we eat, requires bees to do something (I forget what) with the plants. Without the bees doing that thing, we wouldn't have but maybe a quarter of the foods we have.
So I asked the inevitable question; why are bees becoming extinct?
He said that because of the primitive demand for perfect produce and cheap groceries, farmers are compelled to use some sorts of insecticides that kill bees.
Without those insecticides, there'd be no perfect produce, no cheap groceries.
And we have the primitives to blame for this.
