the part about all of this that bothers me, is you ppl think that once a person isnt working, that they have A. never worked or B. wont ever work again. both of these assumptions are wrong. if you believe that paying into social security and medicare means you DESERVE it when you retire, then those of us who have worked and paid taxes also DESERVE food stamps in our mid life crises. but then again, its not about money, its about working and being miserable with some of you.
Wow, another supposed "conservative" calling other conservative "you people"! It's no big deal if you're a liberal. We're not like DU, who bans everyone who doesn't think like them. And these retirees should be able to recover at least some of what was stolen from them before they even got their paychecks. Most of them would be a lot better off if they were allowed to choose where their money goes. An IRA has a lot better rate of return than SS. My 95 year old nana lives on SS and can barely afford to live. Her generation believed it when they were told (by democrats) it would be there to provide her with a wonderful retirement.
My little sister uses food stamps. Her sociopath husband left her six months ago and she has six kids. She went from my parents home to her husband's home. She's spent most of her life homeschooling, so I'm very glad food stamps can help her. I don't think she "deserves" them but I sure am thankful that her and her children are able to eat well. However, she's also being very proactive about improving the quality of life for her and her children's lives. She's going to school to learn a trade and picking up whatever side work she can and works very hard to make sure her children still get to youth group, theater, whatever gives them confidence & joy.
There are people here who have disabilities that are serious enough that they can't work. We have wounded warriors who put their lives on the line for us. If anyone deserves the support of our citizens, it's them. Even so, you'll find these men and women would rather work than sit home and will do whatever job their limitations allow. We're a generous people. Conservatives especially give money to charities we believe in and would give more if we had more to give. No one wants to see a child starve but we also don't want generations of families living off welfare. It's damaging to their self esteem and leaves them with no hope of improving their lives or the lives of their children.
As far as being miserable, that's up to you. You can have a job you detest and still be happy and be thankful that you have one when so many others are out of work. You can be thankful you have a job to pay for your leisure time. You can be thankful you aren't taking money from the hard work of other citizens and that you're contributing your fair share to the collective, since fairness is so important to you. You can be thankful the taxes you pay out of your hard work will provide another person money to spend their day in a library. You can spend your free time doing activities you love and being with people you love. You can look for a better job while this one provides for your needs. You can choose to not let a lousy job make you feel sorry for yourself by thinking about how rotten your life is 24/7. It's cliche, but attitude is everything.
