Winter storm...
« on: December 06, 2013, 01:05:05 PM »
5:45pm Thursday afternoon...

...then by 12:30pm today.

No blizzard, just a steady Christmas Eve snowfall.

That's a foot ruler sticking out of the snow on the table. Clearing later this afternoon, overnight and Saturday with sub-zero temps. Then more snow Sunday. I think the pups are gettin' cabin fever......

Yep, finally just changed over to snow here--going to go until the wee hours. We are still going to make a tree lighting in our little town since I think it would just be so pretty to go to that in the snow for once assuming it isn't cancelled of course.

more snow expected Sunday night--between Obama and the early snow, it's like the 70s all over again! :-)

I've been cold all morning here.  It was 36 on the deck this morning.  I can't imagine how you all manage with the snow and ice and cold temps.  I lived in Colorado one winter and there is no way I could do that every year.

You are preaching to the choir. I did not grow up beyond my formative years in the land of snow and ice and then we are talking the mid atlantic so the occasional noreaster. I lived in Florida for years after those early years. I despise much of winter except the ambiance it creates at Christmas if I don't have to go out in it:-D

You know, my contemporary, you were thinking the same thing :-) I remember being off of school nearly a week one year--before electronics that meant EVERYONE was outside trying to sled, slide, slip, and make merry. It was how stay at home mother's dealt with snow days :-)

We had two inches of snow my freshman year of college in Texas.  They cancelled classes for two days!  Those of us Mid-westerners thought it was hilarious.  One of my fraternity brothers from Houston decided to go sledding with a tray from the cafeteria, flipped and broke his top front teeth.  :-)

I would have probably loved it as a kid.  But as an adult, not so much.  As far as the ambience, yeah.  We do have some mountains that are only a couple of hours away, so for the ambience I can just go visit it, or play in it when I'm in the mood.   :-)

It was only fun as a kid if you were specifically outside to play...otherwise if you were waiting for the bus for school and your legs were numb from the cold then it sucked. Somehow any element is better as a kid if play is involved with buddies!

We're iced in here in North Central Texas. Not much snow, but too much sleet & freezing rain.  :(

When I lived in Colorado one winter, we had an ice storm.   The storm must have passed through the night, but had stopped by morning and I couldn't believe what I saw when I got up.

Everything, including every tiny branch and twig looked like it was incased in glass.  Icicles were hanging half way down the house.

You and me both, but I didn't get a choice in the deal.  Trees are busted everywhere.  But, these are Texas trees, not NH trees, so not like your storm but bad nonetheless.

And almost exactly five years ago.

Ya know, it's not like snow/ ice storms are rare in Texas. Other than last winter, we've had a couple every winter since I've moved back. One would THINK that they'd have more snow removal equipment than they do. On top of it all, we're luck if they sand or gravel certain areas. Minnesota would be been spreading de-icer before the storm hit and throughout the storm.

On the day I moved back, there was a fresh 8" snowfall. Cars & trucks all in the median from I-35 (Gainesville, TX) to Hwy 75 (Sherman/ Denison, TX)

I DO agree with ya Sparky!!

I was pouting about our -28F yesterday until I saw photos from TX.  Ice and higher humidity?  I'm not tough enough for that nonsense.

Yeah.

The fewer people there are, the fewer idiots one's likely to have to deal with.
