The tall, middle-aged man strode to the microphone in front of approximately 100 citizens in the Belmont High School auditorium Thursday night, Sept. 19.

Wearing loose-fitting jeans, a T-shirt and unbutton shirt combo over a slight paunch, the man could be anyone of thousands of parents or guardians ready to speak about school fees, the latest round of test scores or if the town can afford a new High School.

He was anything but.

Why should we release scum like him. Scum like them should be 6 feet under.  :argh: Some of the comments are idiotic. They are just ****ed up.  :bird:

The Sex Offender Registries are idiotic social policy. "levels" and this meeting in particular are idiotic social policy. As a parent, it really doesn't help me at all to know about people like Carl Peterson. Because say that one of my children is around 10 people of Mr. Peterson's age. Any single one of those people could be much, much more likely to attempt to groom my child or hurt him/her in some way. I have to make sure my child is protected from all of them, including Mr. Peterson. My children and I have to interact with people, learn about them, etc., etc., and make a decision for every single one of them about how they are part of our lives. When you've done that, your children can be around "child molesters" all day and night. Child molesters are quite easy to thwart, unlike many other people who have committed other types of crimes for which our nanny governments don't even think we "need" Registries for. What the Registries will lead to for Mr. Peterson's family is that many people will simply ostracize and harass them all for no reason. And it will protect no one. And as far as this "living near schools" nonsense that everyone just loves, research has soundly proved that doesn't matter at all. Facts have shown that. It is quite well known. So, very, very briefly, the Sex Offender Registries wouldn't have been such the colossal failure that they are if people could have simply been able to use them responsibly, i.e. simply to be "informed". But America proved that we are not capable of that. And we also proved that the *real* reason that we have Sex Offender Registries is not to be "informed" or for "public safety" or "protecting children". Because if that were the case, all 50 U.S. states would have created many, many other types of Registries well before the year 2000 and applied all the same useless, crazy, un-American laws to the people listed on those Registries that have been applied to families listed on the Sex Offender Registries. But that didn't happen. There are no good, informed, intelligent Americans who support the Sex Offender Registries as they exist today. The Sex Offender Registries are idiotic social policy and a COMPLETE panacea. The Registries, and especially, especially the adjunct idiotic laws that they have enabled and promoted (e.g. Banishment), are counterproductive, negligibly beneficial, immoral, un-American, divisive, anti-factual, diversionary, often idiotic, thieving, expensive, wasteful, and often illegal. But I expect that most Americans, just like most of the people who were at this meeting, will just continue on knowing very little about the true effects of the Registries (e.g. counterproductive) and will just continue on ignorantly thinking they are just being informed. I only wish that you fans of nanny big government would actually pay for it. I am tired of carrying far, far more than my fair share.

Maybe if more offenders came forward like this, it might start changing the opinions of some. This could be used as a tool for reform. Police officers could help with this by being there at meeting with the offenders. I am sure there are more offenders who would like to do this. Just too afraid. Open communication is the key to any relationship and the community and the offender could benefit from this kind of exchange. Very brave man and hopefully a trail blazer.

Beverly Johnson-Keller (September 20, 2013 at 02:45 PM): Forget that nonsense. We don't worry about anything like for any other kind of "offender". We don't care about people who have shot people (that occasionally leads to actual death). We don't care about people who intentionally run people over in cars. We don't care about people who have stolen their neighbor's cars (that also occasionally leads to actual death). Perhaps people need to mind their own business? Assume that anyone might have done something harmful in the past and they may not even have been caught!!! Or even more importantly, assume that anyone might do something harmful in the future. Or would like to stand in front of us and elaborate on the various ways that you've harmed people in the past? Perhaps you've used illicit drugs that have put your immediate neighbors at risk? Perhaps you've been violent with your own children? Oh, I know, you've never harmed anyone. Neither has anyone else who is not listed on a Sex Offender Registry.
Probably a pervert.
