Critics Say Non-Discrimination Law Would Target Christians
http://radio.foxnews.com/toddstarnes/top-stories/critics-say-non-discrimination-law-would-target-christians.htmlThe San Antonio City Council is expected to vote on a nondiscrimination bill today that religious groups warn will lead to widespread attacks on religious freedom and will prevent Christians who believe in traditional marriage from getting city jobs.
More than 700 people turned out at city hall to speak, both for and against, the proposed ordinance that would add sexual orientation, gender identity and veteran status to existing protections against bias based on sex, race, age and religion.
The proposed law has created a firestorm of controversy pitting gay rights activists against religious conservatives. U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott are among some of the GOP heavyweights opposing the proposal. Abbott said the ordinance would trample on religious freedoms and invite lawsuits.
Discrimination will happen no matter what.
Some of the comments are stupid.

(Name Withheld) No they are not. They are using CONTRACTS that used stipulates based off Sharia Law, but as long as the CONTRACT does not violate anyone's rights it is perfectly legal. Stop exaggerating what is going on.

So, what's next, Gracie? Homosexuality is a sin to God . . . what about all those other sins? Adultery, divorce, murder... the list goes on and on. Certain Christians are using homosexuality as their bully pulpit and you ALL know it. Either that or start treating all the sins the same and stop discriminating against one in particular because it is the popular current thing to do.

So you mean that the fact that the owners of, "Sweet Cakes by Melissa", chose to break the law, had nothing to due with their going out of business?

What law was broken????????

(Name Withheld) - The Oregon Anti-Discrimination Laws are quite clear. Every business who applies for and accepts a business license knows and swears to uphold the law. They knew that they were breaking the law but thought they wouldn't get caught.

)Name Withheld) - You are going by a document that was written in a completely different cultural, social, and historical context, than we now live. last time I checked, we were not a small collection of nomads. If I were to adhere to the bible, I would have to agree that slavery is the natural state of man, as it is stated in the bible. If you acknowledge that slavery is endorsed in the New Testament, do you feel that slavery is morally correct? Or are you going to say that it is a moral wrong to accept slavery? If you reject one moral argument because it doesn't apply to modern times, what is keeping you from rejecting all?

Way to go San Antonio. Cities in Texas, like Austin, Lubbock, Abilene, Amarillo, Corpus Cristi, and El Paso will welcome you with open arms, to the league of Texas cities who have already passed Anti-Discrimination Ordinances. Now if the Texas State Legislature would do the same, so the cities, wouldn't have to do this on their own. Hopefully, ENDA will make it though the US House and US Senate, so this matter of non-discrimination is taken out of the hands of the municipalities, townships, counties, and states who choose to discriminate against members of their populations.
