I don't get it either.
Very hard call here to what is right and wrong. Split second decisions that will last a life time for both sides.
Have to talk to a fireman---Shout out to Nads on this and know a lot more before we point fingers.
Smoke kills very fast, the child so young with not mature lungs or a way to get out may have been dead from inhalation of fumes before the firemen and parents got home.
It is said the Grandparents took one child out to safety forgetting about the baby. If the baby were still alive they would have heard it Screaming and remembered it.
It is the job of the firemen and police to save lives not just shrug when someone is in danger. They talk down bridge jumpers that want to end it all, prevent people from taking their lives into their own hands, suicide or not knowing how to swim react to save someone drowning, some times the rescuers are killed themselves by people in shock try to get their loved ones to safety.
First rule of first responders is to insure their and onlookers safety is secured. Had the father gone into a burning building even to rescue his baby would mean the fireman would have to follow him in to rescue Him at danger to themselves.
A close call here.
