Electricity restored after massive D.C. outage

WASHINGTON - The electricity is back in D.C. after a huge outage that left the downtown area in the dark during the height of the morning rush hours Friday.

But while the power is back on, Metro is still experiencing problems. The Metro Center station remains shut down because of a track fire that occurred as the power was being restored.

Firefighters are on the scene between the Farragut North and Metro Center stations. This is the second track fire Friday morning.

DC was in the dark this morning.  That's a switch.

the fires are kind of weird. they aren't related to the outages.

I'm glad I'm not going into DC any time soon. I try to avoid it like the plague.

No, my friends, there’s only one really progressive idea. And that is the idea of legally limiting the power of the government. That one genuinely liberal, genuinely progressive idea — the Why in 1776, the How in 1787 — is what needs to be conserved. We need to conserve that fundamentally liberal idea. That is why we are conservatives. --Bill Whittle
