3. Blitzer interview with Boston police chief posted in V & MM says they had handguns, grenades, a long rifle and pipebombs. But he said that is an open investigation.
That crime scene is complicated by the explosion of the pressure cooker bomb which did go off in Watertown and seriously injured police trying to apprehend them. They did shoot at the police as well.
Initial reports on the bombs said they had blackpowder which some gun owners use. Nothing illegal under gun laws, but the domestic violence charge and record of Tamerlan's relatives calling the authorities when they suspected him to be up to no good a few years ago might have prevented their getting supplies.
As far as the know-how to make the bombs, it's on the internet.
