Oh my.

This is only the second time in my twelve years of watching the primitives, that a bona fide deaf primitive showed up on Skins's island.

There was another one many years ago, but the primitives were so rude to him that he ran away.

There's lots and lots of "hard of hearing" primitives, but being hard of hearing is totally different from being deaf; it's the same similarity with a minor cold and major double broncho-pneumonia.

No point in copying-and-pasting the campfire, which was lit by the Straight Story primitive, and is a news article about a distraught mother in India who killed her two deaf-and-dumb children, and then herself.

This story is tragic on a lot of levels, just like the unthinking use of the word "dumb" in the story.

Stupid bitch.  "Dumb" in the sense of "mute" is derived differently from "dumb" in the sense of "stupid."

NEVER use the term of deaf and dumb into the single same sentence ever again. I am deaf and I will not accept the term of dumb because that term is long dead, last used in 1970's.
 
Don't ever use it again. Understand? I sure as hell hope so.

Now, I think franksolich has a better grasp on writing than the tron primitive, but for deaf person, the tron primitive writes pretty good.  Not as good as me, but still pretty good. 

But his manners need some working on.

That way I don't have to type the direct response to you. It's not your fault and I am sorry if I offend you but please understand that deaf people doesn't appreciate the word "dumb".

Actually, it's kind of uncanny.

The tron primitive writes like franksolich speaks.

We get tenses and stuff all mixed up.

Tron's first language is most likely ASL. It is a spatial language, and many English subtleties do not translate well.

For example: In ASL, movement to the speaker's back indicates the past, movement to the front indicates the future. A culturally deaf person may have trouble with "did, do, does" or "was, is, will".

I was just struck by how the deaf primitive's writing and franksolich's uttered speech are so similar.

Anyway.  It was during the appearance of the first deaf primitive that I realized what racists the primitives are.  This happened in 2003 or 2004, before the Big Zero came into prominence, before racism became so pronounced on Skins's island.

It was obvious the first deaf primitive was deaf, as his writing was execrable.  But more so than that, there was a chip on his shoulder, a really big chip.  He wasn't a troll or mole or anything, and was right in line with the other primitives when it came to their then-values and perceptions--but he was hostile and confrontational, as we tend to be.

He lacked diplomatic skills, and turned off a lot of primitives.

The primitives whined about his literary incompetence, saying they couldn't understand what he was talking about, and that if he expected a sympathetic audience, he should write in a manner his audience could understand.

Agreed.

However, there had just happened something similiar on Skins's island, when one of Al Sharpton's (the Big Zero wasn't around yet, remember) "sons" showed up and wrote equally execrably; one could barely understand him.

A single solitary lone primitive protested about his lack of literary competence, and got jumped on by all the other primitives, who said it was racist to protest against cultural and linguistic diversity, and besides, the guy was "disadvantaged," and so needed sensitivity and consideration.

If that wasn't racist, I dunno what racism is.

No, actually she wrote rather well, as far as I remember.  She's not on DU anymore--but she's still a bona fide communist, for sure.  She did a couple of those youtube videos bitching about something or other:

Her politics suck and are utterly unrealistic, but she definitely has a poise and manner absent in most deaf people; her eye-contact is really good, and her body language reasonably expressive.

She's a rarity, and even if one doesn't like her politics, one should remember she's pulling off something very few deaf people can do, and for that deserves some kudos.

Yes, I can confirm to you she is quite deaf; her speech clearly indicates so, it is monotone and halted.  And you are correct, it is quite impressive, I can only imagine the discipline and self consciousness that needs to be overcome in order to speak intelligibly as she does quite well.

Okay, I slept on it, and went and looked at those youtubes again, even though I can't hear what she's saying.

I'm not a big believer in first impressions; best to look, and then look again, and then look a third time, and then come to a reasonable conclusion.

I think I have it nailed down, what bothered me yesterday about her.

She's hardly a self-made person; I get the impression she's a trust-fund kiddie, her parents having endowed her with some bucks because they were worried she wouldn't be able to support herself in life.

This isn't a broad who's had to pay a lot of her bills; this isn't a chick who's going to have to worry about working for a living.

Now, I've always admitted that I had certain advantages denied other deaf people, which were considerable.  But even I had to pay for my own speech therapy (the parents having died when I was still a teenager).  Two years of it, big bucks.  More than what I was spending on rent or tuition and books or winter-time trips to Europe.  I doubt she had to pay for hers.

And what makes her pathetic is that she's a supporter of all these free ponies and unicorns, which cost money.  In fact, the Big Zero's spending plans could lead to complete confiscation of wealth in this country.

And that includes her trust fund.  Surely she doesn't imagine she's going to be allowed to keep it under 0bamanomics.

100% of the people who are Deaf and immersed in ASL and the big-Deaf culture on my FB list are Dems. They want handouts and they want everyone to pander to them. Instead of trying to integrate into the hearing world, they expect everyone to learn ASL for them. not realistic.

Now the people who are oral deaf who talk and read lips or have cochlear implants are the opposite, usually. They are self sufficient. Go figure!
