My mental state might get worse.

Due to being hit by a mini van. My therapist thinks I might have PTSD now... I'm a little bit afraid of cars now. As in cringing the whole time I was coming home from the hospital.

Then there's the physical recovery itself. It's going to be very frustrating. I can't get out of bed by myself.

Edit: I was on foot on a crosswalk by the way. Two hairline fractures on my right hip and a bruised finger. Full recovery expected.

3. Oh no!

How traumatic, I'm so sorry, Neoma! Treat yourself gently, and just concentrate on healing physically for now. What rotten luck, I hope you're not hurting too much.

5. i think it's natural to feel this way

i was in a car accident when i was a teenager and for the longest time i would cringe and grab the 'oh shit' handle if i caught a car coming out of the corner of my eye. it's been 17 or 18 years since the accident and i'm still a bit uncomfortable in the car.

8. Me too. No reason to go straight to PTSD.

Rule of thumb in these things is the symptoms that distress you need to not be better associated with other causes--like the immediate shock of the accident, and they need to have some duration.

It may be something to watch, but I'm sort of surprised a therapist would go there. Usually they are pretty worried about laying the ground work that could lead to something factitious.

6. I'm having a similar issue

2 car related accidents and one near miss has really made it hard for me. I stopped driving for a year, took a bus or got a ride or walked or didn't go. Keep talking to your therapist. kind regards

She was allegedly hit by a car on the 25th and by the 28th is diagnosed of PTSD.

I've been told it's easier to get on disabled for mental issues than physical issues. I wonder if that's relevant.

No doubt.  She is already setting the foundation of being afraid to ride in a car (which would compromise her ability to work)

Leave it to a DUmmy to parlay a bruised finger in to permanent disability.
These people are pathetic. I tried at one time to have some respect for them. but that is long gone.

Her first thread was all about getting access to pain medication/drugs for hairline fractures and a bruised finger.
I thought Neome threw herself (I'm guessing at the gender) in front of a car just to get drugs.

But of course, let no crisis go to waste.

I'm mystified as to why a primitive thinks it "deserves" a life without pain, without trials and tribulations, without troubles.

In fact, I think a primitive, any primitive, deserves far more pain and trouble than what they get.

It gives me a great deal of confidence about justice in this world, knowing that the primitives haven't seen nothing yet, when it comes to pain and trouble, because all the things they voted for are just now slowly coming into effect.  When they're up and running at full speed, I have no doubt the primitives will know pain and trouble.

I think part of the DUmmies' biggest problem is they think they can vote their daily suffering away.

The most important two lessons one can ever learn is that life involves suffering, and your problems are not that important in the big picture. The DUmmies never learned them.

I separated my pelvis and fractured my fibula jumping from an airplane on the 13th of August last year. I still walked (most of the way) to the assembly area carrying 50 pounds of parachute and THEN went to the hospital for two days. I was back at work at least 2 weeks before I was supposed to, climbing stairs I wasn't supposed to climb. I was jumping again by the end of November.

Come back when you have a REAL injury, DUmmy.

What a flake. :mental:

I was listening to some of Ira Glass' garbage on NPR earlier today and some woman was talking about "triggers" and "starbursts" she would get watching Home Shopping Network.  These people are idiots.

There's another website I read that is mostly liberal that has constant "trigger" warnings and labels for articles that get posted.  It's ridiculous.

DUmmy Neoma is lying.

From the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, 4th Edition (DSM-IV-TR):

Diagnostic criteria for PTSD include a history of exposure to a traumatic event meeting two criteria and symptoms from each of three symptom clusters: intrusive recollections, avoidant/numbing symptoms, and hyper-arousal symptoms. A fifth criterion concerns duration of symptoms and a sixth assesses functioning.

Criterion A: stressor

The person has been exposed to a traumatic event in which both of the following have been present:

The person has experienced, witnessed, or been confronted with an event or events that involve actual or threatened death or serious injury, or a threat to the physical integrity of oneself or others.

The person's response involved intense fear, helplessness, or horror. Note: in children, it may be expressed instead by disorganized or agitated behavior.

Criterion B: intrusive recollection

The traumatic event is persistently re-experienced in at least one of the following ways:

Recurrent and intrusive distressing recollections of the event, including images, thoughts, or perceptions. Note: in young children, repetitive play may occur in which themes or aspects of the trauma are expressed.

Recurrent distressing dreams of the event. Note: in children, there may be frightening dreams without recognizable content

Acting or feeling as if the traumatic event were recurring (includes a sense of reliving the experience, illusions, hallucinations, and dissociative flashback episodes, including those that occur upon awakening or when intoxicated). Note: in children, trauma-specific reenactment may occur.

Intense psychological distress at exposure to internal or external cues that symbolize or resemble an aspect of the traumatic event.

Physiologic reactivity upon exposure to internal or external cues that symbolize or resemble an aspect of the traumatic event.

Criterion C: avoidant/numbing

Persistent avoidance of stimuli associated with the trauma and numbing of general responsiveness (not present before the trauma), as indicated by at least three of the following:

Efforts to avoid thoughts, feelings, or conversations associated with the trauma
Efforts to avoid activities, places, or people that arouse recollections of the trauma
Inability to recall an important aspect of the trauma
Markedly diminished interest or participation in significant activities
Feeling of detachment or estrangement from others
Restricted range of affect (e.g., unable to have loving feelings)
Sense of foreshortened future (e.g., does not expect to have a career, marriage, children, or a normal life span)

Criterion D: hyper-arousal

Persistent symptoms of increasing arousal (not present before the trauma), indicated by at least two of the following:

Difficulty falling or staying asleep
Irritability or outbursts of anger
Difficulty concentrating
Hyper-vigilance
Exaggerated startle response

Criterion E: duration

Duration of the disturbance (symptoms in B, C, and D) is more than one month.

Criterion F: functional significance

The disturbance causes clinically significant distress or impairment in social, occupational, or other important areas of functioning.

Specify if:
Acute: if duration of symptoms is less than three months
Chronic: if duration of symptoms is three months or more
