I don't know the tech details on it either, Sparky, but dollars to doughnuts there is a margin of safety on them that would easily handle a three-month emergency deployment for an operational contingency.

Perhaps--depending on which EOL (End of Life) criteria they've hit, DAT.  Xenon is a funny thing.  But once they've hit the sill of the drydock, they're done.  Nobody going anywhere.

It's a conscript army for the most part.  I wasn't too impressed with what I saw in 2005.  I may be wrong...but I don't think they'd offer the kind of resistance needed to stop the PRK Army.

Don't even get me started on the KATUSAs. Also don't forget the civies that would be running away from the fight that would be in the way.

Actually, the Marines are moving out of Okinawa (that doesn't negate the treaty but the Japanese aren't particularly wild about us being there). About 5000 are going to Guam and the rest will be spread out in other places around the Pacific.

5000 more people on Guam? Damn, that might put them past the tipping point.  :whistling:

[Neckbeard mode] If China wipes out Japan, the american auto makers would dominate the world market again. This means more union jobs.
Come to think of it, unions do create jobs. Companies have to hire two workers to do the work of one.

What the... so what you are saying is that even though we have said that we will support Japan if they are engaged in conflict, and they have gotten rid of the majority of their military, we don't need to back them up. You @#$%ing iIDIOT! We are OBLIGATED to support them. Why do you think we have Marines still stationed on Okinawa? Or does the word of the United States mean nothing? Oh wait.. that would mean you understand something like Honor and Integrity and doing what you say you will do.  :bird:

1)  Honor and Integrity?  Are YOU saying Obama has H&I?
2)  You clearly fail to understand how the govt operates.  We have OBLIGATIONS and we have COMMITMENTS and there IS a difference, LEGALLY
3)  Whether or not the military get hit with Sesqu...or not is unimportant folks.  It will occur anyhow, all Obama has done is shift the BLAME to either the GOP if it happens next month or he will do this HIMSELF in the dark of night.  Klinton did it, Carter did it, I was there.  The result was Reagan and Bush rebuilt.
4)  The POTUS is the CiC and he establishes what is called as "commanders intent".  His intent unless he changes is we will have a '1-front capable ' military.  Our posture has always dictated a 3 front.  Asia, Europe and the US.  To go to a one front military puts us in a DEFENSE posture with the mission to defend the US and NOT conduct OCONUS (outside continental US) operations.  This of course will leave a huge sucking sound the world over, call it a vacuum.  nothing likes a vacuum thru someone will step in.  There are only 2 countries that can at this time.  China and the Ruskys.  Neither has the ability to full the global role singularly.  Thus they will share it.

5)  Ruskys take Europe, some of the ME, China takes Asia and possibly some of the African, Australia/NZ

6)  This leaves the US.  As this scenario is unfolding Obama and the Dimes are hell bent and working on Gun Registration and subsequent confiscation.  A gun in my hands is the key reason why neither the Ruskys or China will show up on these shores any time soon.  We are 100 million gun owners deep and own 300+ million guns.  So they (China/Rusky) will let the Dims and Obama do their work for them before they make a play for the US.  I think the Ruskys and China will attack the US and do so concurrently, China to the west coast and Russia to the E coast and the result will be a splitting of forces by a very weakened military, a civilian populace stripped of their guns or at least registration.  YOU MUST remember the extreme radical Dims have NO PROBLEM with a Communist-socialist form of govt.  Obama and his top level backers (Soros, Lewis and some others) will be rewarded.

6)  Timeline:  LOT depends upon who (IF ANYONE) follows Obama in office.  If its say J Castro (Mayor of San Antonio) or as we like to call him, Obama Latin, then a possible action within 10 years, or 15 years...BUT MARK MY WORDS its gonna happen unless something radical occurs.

7)  WHY?  We are BROKE, we will have $23 Trillion in debt by the end of this Obama term + the annual cost of Obamacare $2.5 Trillion (there are whitehouse.gov numbers).  This precludes some stepping in and rebuilding our military as Reagan and Bush did, there will be NO MONEY!!!!

8)  What can I do?  If you are reading this then you may well be a conservative and if you own guns and believe the only way they will get it is to take it from cold dead hands then you have a hope.  You pack you bags, come to Texas, we are perhaps the best state in the US to withdraw from the union and we have a COMBAT force.  49th Armored Div Texas, 36th Inf Div Texas, we have an Air Force all with in our borders, all controlled by the Texas Gov.  Ohh and we have something else a thriving economy, we have jobs going begging and we are a NET EXPORTER of goods and services and enough dam oil to run this state for the next 500+ years.  But if you do not want to work, start a business or you are a LibTard, stay the hell away.

I'm not saying that anyone currently serving in office has anything remotely resembling honor and integrity. I can dream in one hand and shit in the other and we all know I will be covered in shit before anyone currently in office has anything resembling Honor and Integrity. I was simply trying to point out the emperor is naked.

And you are right, I know we are not obligated to help Japan, but what happens when the folks we have stationed in either Japan, Korea or Guam get caught up in these shenanigans? Mr. Murphy is a B#$tch and it will not be pretty if it comes to that.

I guess I am just a little saddened that my country has gotten to the point where it will not do what it says it will do. If I do that at home, my wife will kick my ass, and deservedly so! It's about time we do the same to these idiots in charge and hold them accountable for their actions.

You silly guys!

Honor lies in making sure everyone pays their fair share to care for the weakest among us.

Integrity means viewing conflicts from the standpoint of our adversaries, and building bridges to the peace-loving muslim world.

That's what the blue hellholes voted for, and ultra-conservative nuts stayed home for, and that's what we're all getting.

Over a century ago an Imperialist Germany also saw the economic ramifications in a conflict, yet Germany felt that the world was too slow to accommodate its growing power, and crude, irrational passions like nationalism took hold...  In that context, a few clumps of rock could be as significant as the assassination of an archduke. Obviously the landscape today is a bit more complicated, but China's government definitely plays the Nationalism card, and a recent poll suggested that over half of China's population sees a "military conflict" with Japan in the next few years... When pressure from the people of China begins to creep in on China's government officials to defend it's land, things might become a little irrational.

Regardless of what the US would do in such scenario, it would be a major ClusterF*ck.
