Bullet to the Head
« on: February 02, 2013, 03:41:05 PM »
We went to see Sly Stallone's new movie, "Bullet to the Head" last night. Not bad, lots of shooting, exploding, and general mayhem. Not a single vampire, zombie or werewolf in sight!!!  :yahoo:

However...I know we hadn't been to a super dooper action movie, or any other movie, win at least 6 months, and the last one was at a different theater. But damn!! I could hear the booms, and feel the vibrations from the lobby for this individual theater, and those were the previews of coming attractions!! This place is at the mall and there are 9 theaters in it, all with stadium seating.

This theater has been there for several years, I have gone to it before, but never has the sound been like last night. There were previews for 4 or 5 movies, the new Die Hard and GI JOE - both of which have Bruce Willis and look like they will be good - and a couple of other action movies. I felt like the sound was vibrating off of my body. It was worse than any rock concert I have ever been to, even when seated near the speaker thingies.

The sound during the actual movie was a wee bit less, thank God, cause if it had been as loud as it was for the previews, I would have had to leave. M has tinnitus, but is also going deaf (he swears he isn't, but I swear he is -and no is it not selective hearing though he has perfected that!!)...even he said the sound was almost unbearable.

Am I missing something here? What is the purpose of the sound so insanely loud? Is it to make the movie more real life like in noise?

I won't go back to this theater to see the new Bruce Willis movies....  :(

Same problem at our local theater.  We usually bitch about it & they turn it down a little.  I think it might be that our "youts" are destroying their hearing with their self-propelled boom boxes.

That's been one of my big complaints for a long time, (last movie in a theater was probably 15 years or more go), music and special effects are so loud and some dialogue is so low that I miss it sometimes.

I saw it last night too.  I was thinking it might be something to see so I checked it out and saw that Walter Hill directed it and that sealed the deal--I really liked his old movies like 48 Hours, The Warriors,Johnny Handsome, and The Long Riders.  I liked it.  Very violent but not the cartoonish type of everybody flying through the air violence that you see in most action movies these days.

The fight with the axes was something else!!!!

Were the previews from the new "Die Hard" movie shown? It looks like it will be really good too, but then I like Bruce Willis. In this one, his son is all grown up and they work together....

That reminded me of Walter Hill's movie Streets of Fire which had a sledgehammer fight between Willem Dafoe and Michael Pare.  But a fight with fire axes is even scarier, something else, all right.

The new Die Hard looks good too.

I saw the new Arnold movie last weekend.  I don't know what I'm going to do when all my favorite movie stars get too old to make action movies--if they haven't already.

Walter Hill rocks. He made some of my favorite movies. Directed Last Man Standing (remake of Yojimbo), Extreme Prejudice, and Streets of Fire. The first 48 Hrs is on my list. Produced Alien, Aliens, and Prometheus.
