The bad luck at our house continues

It started here: http://www.democraticunderground.com/10022067605

Tonight on the way home after work I was in a fender bender. The other car forgot they were on a way way street. They turned (improper turn) into me. I T-boned them. I have a sore shoulder from the seat belt. I wasn't going fast enough to open the air bag. They all 3 seemed fine. I didn't have direct contact with them.

OnStar was wonderful. The first thing they asked is if I was ok? They got me calmed down. They made sure I felt safe. Is the car leaking gas? Could I run the heat in the cold temps? They took care of the OnStar tow. They stayed on the line until the police arrived. Well trained professionals. They followed up to make sure I was ok.

My car isn't drivable. I'll be in a renter for at least a couple weeks.

I'm hoping for a better New Year.

Love it! More bad things happening to bad people.

I'm surprised he considers this bad luck rather than an opportunity for more free stuff.

And further surprised that the free stuff experts have not flooded him with advice on how to get more.
This too shall pass.

Small problem with OS's "bouncy".

He mentioned OnStar.  OnStar only calls YOU in a wreak IF the airbag deploys.

If the car is "undriveable", then, yes, he hit hard enough to deploy airbags.

But........................................he said they did NOT.

Perhaps there wasn't enough room between his girth and the steering wheel for the bags to deploy?

That can happen, I guess.

Not that I've ever seen it happen, but others have told me it can happen.

Steve was probably in the left lane of a one-way street when another driver made a left turn from the right lane.

Come on, Steve!  You can do better than THIS!

I went back and reread OS's bouncy.

He didn't actually say OnStar called him. He could have reached up and pushed the button, assuming he wasn't too grievously injured (snicker).

Quote
The other car forgot they were on a way way street. They turned (improper turn) into me. I T-boned them. I have a sore shoulder from the seat belt. I wasn't going fast enough to open the air bag. They all 3 seemed fine. I didn't have direct contact with them.

I laughed when I read this part. Steve didn't talk to the driver of the other car. He was too busy calling OnStar and his lawyer.

If Chief Weeping Water Buffalo didn't have direct contact with the other driver, how would he know the other driver "forgot  they were on a one way street?" Maybe they recognized him from www.electstevedawes.com and tried to run him off the road.

I'm going to take a stab at reconstructing the accident from Steve's poorly worded description:

Vehicle 1, driven by person unknown, was southbound in the right lane of X Street, which is a one-way street. Vehicle 2, driven by the The Boss Tweed of Bellevue, was southbound in the left lane of X Street, in the blind spot of Vehicle 1. The driver of Vehicle 2 was listening to NPR, playing with his OnStar, and looking at his iPhone, while drinking coffee and clipping his toenails. At the intersection with Y Street, Vehicle 1 made a left turn from the right lane, crossing the path of Vehicle 2. Vehicle 2 struck the driver's side of Vehicle 1. Low speed impact, no injuries.

I'm a little mystified by this "no direct contact" with the people on the way way street.  Don't you exchange insurance info and see if everyone's OK?  He just sat there like a sinister lump and waited for the police to finally show?  That can be quite a wait sometimes, if no serious injuries happened.

Look at all the DUmmies, swarming around that sore shoulder.  Sniffing around for valuable cash and prizes.

I was thinking the same thing. Last wreck I was in I had to find a pay phone to get my wife to come pick me up. Didn't even a cell phone back then.

That is entirely possible but am not sure why he needed to specify it was a way way street as that could happen on any.
Unless way way is a completely unknown to all humanity until now description of a multi lane road.

My guess is what all primitives do,they think themselves so smart that they over embellish their bouncies.
The DUmbasses never pick up on it because they are just DUmbasses but civilized people see through them..

Steve was by the sounds of it,the south end of a northbound jackass and hit somebody.
This is the groundwork for months of woe is me posting (competing with Pam) as well as already pointed out trying to fast track the disability gravy train.
