A plane carrying the band members of the rock group Lynyrd Skynyrd crashed in Mississippi.

Ronnie Van Zant (lead singer), Steve Gaines (lead guitarist), and Cassie Gaines (back up singer) were killed.

I was only seven, but I remember hearing the news. One of the fondest memories I have is when the radio hit just right, and my sister and I belted out "Sweet Home Alabama" on the way home from shopping with out mom.

RIP, and thank you for the music.

I was 13.  I remember that time.  I was just a freshman in HS.

They were such an awesome band, and they're actually still pretty good.

It's not ironic.  It's coincidental.    :-)

Whippersnapper  :old:

You GO there young fella, don't take no guff from the wet noses on the board,.

Those were the years of music one could toe tap to.   I see in the news the Rolling Stones just sold out 2 shows in 7 minutes in London.  Kentucky, another opening band for BOC was awesome. With 4 kids I believe we took them to at least one concert a month for years.   I  believe it was the controlled hysteria of the crowd, the visuals of pyrotecs and the never know what would happen next that was a big draw.

The kids and I saw Greg Allman get hit in the head with a full beer can while on stage at a 3 day camp out with 30+ other bands in a farmers field in VA. ------Lots of Fiddlers Conventions in the South held at camp grounds for 2-3 days.

A good exposures for garage bands that played for free just to meet the members of the Name bands. For my kids, the youngest  son decided he wanted to learn to play the fiddle. Ah the fights he got into when others razzed on him for playing the violin.

Truth be told, I like some of the older music.  I have Lynyrd Skynyrd, Don McLean, Hank Sr., Hank Jr, Patsy Cline and the Beatles in my iTunes.  But my taste is really '90s country.

No where's near as much as the Cops did that stood behind lines and would not enter the area unless they saw blood.

Only once did I see them cross the line, that was because some ones naughty kids { :whistling:} had seen a couple of males enter a porto potty together, ran over and stuck a stick in the hasp and tipped the darn thing over.   What can I say, they kids must have been born that way.

Me too, but only because I was pregnant and the smoke at a Commodores Concert was making me ill.   About that time I find in Honolulu at same time pregnant watching the Doors, they would have had to call an ambulance to get me out of there.  I was so taken with the keyboardest and the voice of Jim, the only thing to get me out of there was if told my home with 2 kids inside was on fire.

Strange the effect music has on people, who was it that said that music can tame a wild beast ?????

I remember the news flash on the radio. When I was in Italy I was in a record store not long after the crash, maybe a few years at most had passed and we both were looking at the LPs and found one of LS with the cover with them with the fire in the background. I told my friend he should get it because it was never released or was pulled back in the US. He did and for all I know he still has it.
