RIP, Big Tex. State Fair of Texas Icon Dead at 60. (w/photo)

Big Tex burned up this morning.  No more "How-dee folks" this year.

Big Tex was 60.

Big Tex in 1956:

They fixed those scary eyes in later years.  :-)

Oh no! Big Tex burned! I guess they will try to deep-fry anything at the fair this year!

R.I.P. LC and Crockspot.  Miss you guys.

The sad part is that Tex's head melted.  The original is gone forever.  The same head I stared up at as a small child.

Now that classic 1952 slow-moving non-high tech Big Tex is going to be replaced with some 2013 version.

The history is now a memory instead of reality.  It will never be the same.

They'll rebuild him bigger and stronger- then put him on the Texas defensive line next year.:-)

They'll probably rebuild him with a same-sex partner-of-color.  Big Brucio or something.

I think he's still alive, he'll be given a bionic limb or two and be rebuilt, better, stronger, faster.

He'll work for the OSI and hang out with Big Foot and hot red headed aliens and fight bad guys and dress well.

In a few years there will be Big Tex sightings in WalMart parking lots all over the country.

I just got home from the fairgrounds.  Big Tex is gone.  Big Tex Plaza is full of flowers and wreaths and stuffed animals and the like.  Princess Di would be proud.
